We needed topsoil for a large flower bed and they were the closest supplier. We had calculated the amount of topsoil we needed for the project (hubby is an engineer, so that sort of thing is his forte) and called Rock World. The woman who answered the phone not only couldn't do simple math (and tried to convince us that we needed TWICE the amount we needed and was extremely pushy and condescending about it) but also agreed on the price of $60 for 3 cubic yards of topsoil AND delivery. Once we arrived, we confirmed the price of $60 for the topsoil AND delivery, and were then told that they only accepted cash, and having only "plastic" on hand, we had to search for a nearby ATM machine (would have been nice if they had mentioned that on the phone). We took out extra cash, thinking that we would "tip" the driver, since it was late in the day, as well as grab a quick dinner. However, once we arrived (again) at Rock World, we were told that the $60 did NOT include delivery. When my husband reminded her of the price quoted, she insisted that my husband didn't understand what she had said and again tried to convince him that HIS calculations were incorrect (they weren't ~ even with his calculations, we had more "soil" than we needed) and HERS were correct. We decided that we were already there, and paid the egregious price and made arrangements for delivery. That component of the transaction went well. They delivered the topsoil within an hour (as agreed), and soon left. Upon transferring the topsoil to the bed, we discovered that the majority of the "soil" was sand. While I realize that Florida is composed mostly of sand, we paid for topSOIL, not sand and enough soil mixed in to make it look like soil. In the end, after the flowers we planted DIED (even after adding plenty of fertilizer and manure to make the "soil" more "soil-y"), we went ahead and bought replacement soil from Home Depot. All in all, an utterly unprofessional company, with poor quality control, poor customer service and unstable pricing structure. While it's more expensive to use the bagged soils from the big box home improvement stores, at least they are professional and we can be assured that we're receiving quality materials.
Description of Work: Purchase and delivery of 3 cubic yards of "topsoil."
