Mike Garrity and his son Sean (co-owners of the business) did great work. They are honest and hardworking. And most importantly, very skilled in their workmanship. We are very satisfied with our experience with Garrity Decking and we highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Our concrete pool / patio deck surface was in a poor condition - stained, cracked, and generally unattractive. The original drains were narrow and didn't work as well as we'd like. We considered pavers for the surface, but decided against it. Our concern was that the pavers would be difficult to keep clean - mildew could possibly be an issue with the humid conditions here in Florida. I've also heard that the sand used to level the pavers can be a real mess - getting into the pool and everywhere, especially when the paver surface is sprayed with a pressure washer. And with our golden retriever who likes to spend time with us in the pool and on the pool deck, we figured hair would accumulate in the spaces between and pavers and be difficult to spray away. We obtained three quotes from various pool deck resurfacing companies. In each instance, a "smooth talking" sales rep arrived, took measurements, and provided an estimate. Don't get me wrong, the sales rep guys were nice, answered our questions, and provided details of how the work would be done and a quote. But it concerned me that when it came time for the work to be done, a work crew I'd never met would be present, and the sales rep would be out of the picture. One of the issues I asked each sales rep was regarding the existing cracks in the pool deck. I asked if the cracks could be cut out and then filled prior to the re-surfacing. This process can sometimes help prevent or delay the re-appearance of cracks in the new pool deck surface. (Yes, I realize that cracks in solid concrete pool deck surfaces are impossible to prevent completely.) One sales rep said it couldn't be done. The other two told me that he'd tell his guys to cut out and fill the cracks and that there would be no additional charge. This raised a red flag because my pool deck had a lot of cracks, and to cut them all out and fill them prior to the re-surfacing would require a heck of a lot of work. Clearly a promise was being made that would not be fulfilled. (I'm quite certain that the guys doing the job would not spend extra hours cutting out the cracks for no extra reimbursement. More likely, they'd just cover up the cracks with the new surface, and a few months later all the original cracks would be showing up in the new deck surface.) Also all of the quotes were for a basic, uniform colored concrete re-surfacing. We wanted something more attractive than just a simple, uniformly colored concrete re-surfacing. Our 4th and final quote came from Garrity Decking. Instead of a smooth sales rep, Mike Garrity, the owner, came to our home to provide info and a quote. Mike is a very nice, easy going guy. His approach is very relaxed with no rush or pressure at all. He began by giving us a quote for a basic, uniformly colored concrete re-surfacing. His quote price was competitive with the other quotes - as I can best recall, about $4500. He also showed us some examples of a textured and color blended surface option which involves using stamp overlays on the wet new surface to create a stone-like texture. Once dry, the surface is then coated with a color blending technique to mimic natural stone, and lastly a clear coat is applied. Mike provided some large samples of what the finished product would look like for us to lay down on the pool deck surface and picture what the finished project would look like. I think this resurfacing option is called "Vegas Stone". It is considerably more involved to do this kind of surfacing and costs more than a basic concrete re-surfacing job. Mike gave us a quote of $7000 and this included cutting out the old drains and replacing with new, wider drains, cutting out all of the cracks in our deck (we had a lot, and it took him and his co-owner, son all day to do this) and filling the cracks with an epoxy compound, and then the textured, color-blended re-surfacing. (I'm not sure of our square footage, but we have a very large pool / patio deck.) We are very happy with the finished product. It looks great and I love how it feels under my feet. (It's not slippery, and it's just as cool on our feet as the original cool deck surface.) It gives our pool / patio area a unique and beautiful appearance. Everyone who sees it, really loves it. And it is really easy to spray down the surface and get rid of any gutter dirt which tends to accumulate after heavy rains.

I worked with Mike Garrity, owner of Garrity Decking and his son Shawn; they were the subcontractors for another company that I hired. The entire project had issues, but during the whole process Mike and his son were very professional and courteous and made sure they worked through the issues. The issues started when the new french drains were installed by the other company. They were installed 1/4 inch higher than the concrete, probably the standard for when clients are laying brick pavers. However, we were not, and therefore, the acrylic layer would then need to be very thick to compensate for the difference in height. As the subcontractor for the acrylic process, Mike said he could work around it, but needed to verify with the other company on their contracted price because of all the extra acrylic material needed to fill in the height difference. The acrylic process started and everything seemed to go well, Garrity Decking finished the job, including color sealing the new pool deck. Unfortunately, it rained that night/next day. Apparently because the acrylic was so thick, it did not dry properly and all the paint and some acrylic ended up running into the pool and the deck was partially ruined. The pool water was extremely cloudy because of the paint and acrylic chemicals entering the pool. The filter was also ruined. The pump was OK, but we had to clean out paint that was stuck to the inside of the cartridge canister.Garrity Decking had to come back and redo about 1/2 the job. Obviously he wasnt too happy about it. But he made good on finishing the job. I felt in the middle of the hired company and the subcontractor (Garrity). On one hand, I paid a lot of money and wanted a complete and thorough job. On the other hand I had some sympathy for these companies to have to lose out on profits. Garrity and his son worked very hard laboring to complete the job. But in the end, MIke Garrity should have not rushed the job, and let the acrylic dry and come back later to color seal. This is his specialty and he should have known. After the job was completed, I was very happy. What should have been 1 week of work turned into several weeks. It was difficult on us not using our backyard, as we have a dog we had to walk every time. In the end, I paid the hired company and was happy they worked through all the issues. My one unresolved complaint, and this is why I gave a "D" and mostly "B's". About 1 week after the job completed, I saw a large crack foming and called the hired company. The owner came by to pick up my final payment when I was not home, but did not comment on the crack. I called them again to voice my complaint, and did not receive a return call. As a side note, I contacted mIke Garrity directly, and he said he would come out, and never did. I supposidly have a warranty, and the hired company told me he would take care of any future problems, just call. So I am disappointed and ultimately feel that all the issues that mounted due to the incorrect drains, basically caused a domino effect of errors.I now have at least 6 cracks in my decking, all of them appeared within 1 month of the job completion. 1 crack is about 10-12 feet long, another is about 7 feet long, and another about 5 feet, the others are about 1-2 feet long. I also have several areas that puddle instead of draining into the drains. In fairness, I was told that would happen a little bit, but I do feel that these puddles are larger than necessary. The subcontractor said we would have to pay $250 min for him to repair those. We feel that these puddles are too large to be just "normal" and should be corrected appropriately. (Garrity said he would correct puddles larger than a nickel deep). If either company refuses to come out to repair, then we are stuck having to pay another company to repair these cracks and puddles.I did say that I would use this contractor again. Its really a maybe. I thought that the price was good, and the issues were being worked though. Bottom line, does this company stand behind their warranty? If so, I would use them again. As a side note, the areas that are not cracked, or puddled, look really really good. We love our new deck!
Description of Work: Installed,, prepped / power washed, and resurfaced concrete pool deck with acrylic surface, and painted wtih color seal. French drains were also cleaned out. There was a large crack that was repaired and sealed.

We’re sorry that we could not please this member 100%, which is what we aim to do on each job. Because we were a subcontractor, there were some things that were out of our control. We’re glad to hear that other than the troubled spot this member loves their deck, and wish we would have been able to do more for them. Had we been in full control from start to finish and not have had to work as a subcontractor, we’re sure that this review would be all A’s

The work was started on time and extremely professional. Also I was so impressed with their work, I asked them to do our front door entryway which looks terrific. The new decking is far superior to the decking that was done when our home was built ten years ago.
Description of Work: Prepared existing deck by filling in cracks and pressure washing. Applied a sealing coat of acrylic spray followed by knockdown texturing. This was followed by applying two coats of color sealer. My decking area is approx.800 sq. ft. All the work was performed by a father and son.

I was very pleased with the work he did. He was very conscientious and he likes to make sure that the job is perfect. His prices were competitive. He is punctual and if there was a problem because of the weather, he would always call. He was very professional and he is coming again at the end of the week.
Description of Work: Mike Garrity refinished my pool and put pavers around my pool, driveway and sidewalk. He also changed the caulking. The work was done last year.

They were very punctual. He explained to our satisfaction what he would do and completely answered all questions we had.
Description of Work: They completely refinished the deck around our pool. They pressure cleaned, grouted cracks, and textured areas of the deck which required it. They applied Ultracrete Coconut Decking finish.

THIS ISSUE HAS ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED TWICE. THEY HAD A ROCK DECK THAT WOULD NOT TAKE A KOOL DECK, AND OWNER TOLD HIM THAT IT MIGHT NOT WORK. THE OWNER HAS BEEN OUT TWICE TO TRY AND RECTIFY THE SITUATION BUT THE ROCK DOES NOT ALLOW THE KOOL DECK TO STICK. THE OWNER DID GO OUT AND MOVED THE FURNITURE (NOT IN CONTRACT) AND MOVER IT BACK (NOT IN CONTRACT). OWNER IS WILLING TO GO BACK OUT THERE TO RESEAL IT AGAIN BUT WILL NOT MOVE ALL OF THE FURNITURE.
