Closets By Design

Prepare to Wait… Lower Your Expectations… Before I detail my experience, I would like to acknowledge Donny and Sharmaine for trying to do right. However, sometimes bad just can’t be fixed. My experience started with my “Designer”. I have read where other people had fantastic designers. However, I did not. My designer described the closet materials as “infinity Every” as high-grade. They are not. Be prepared that they are the most basic of materials and nothing more. Something that is acceptable for a DIY but not for a custom design company. Second, my designer said that she needed to get permission from her manager to give me a special discount. As I have learned in the nearly three months while waiting for install, this discount is advertised everywhere. Third, I was told that she would put me on the wait list in case someone cancelled for an earlier install date if possible. (I don’t remember the term she used for “waitlist”.) However, when I called after about two months, I was told that wasn’t the case as it was not included on the contract. Make sure even the most benign comments are included in the contract as my experience was that they will do only the minimum that is stated in the contract. As I said in the title of this review, “Lower your expectations.” After much debate and unnecessary stress, I was able to get an earlier installation date. Thus, I “only” had to wait 2 ½ months. The wait was not worth it. As I mentioned, I would not order the “Infinity Everyday” again. It does not meet my standards as to what a custom closet installer should use. Second, I strongly recommend documenting your conversation with the “designer”. Any assurances or promises definitely need to be added to the contract. Answers to questions regarding the design turned out to be wrong. Promises that were not in the contact were null. My experience causes me to caution relying on the designer as an expert who will be there to help. I met mine the day of the sale and have not seen or spoken with her since. Finally, I share the experience of customers that did not have their install completed the first day. The accessories and finishes to the six drawers were forgotten. Not to worry, I was told by the installers. They will return either later that day or first thing the next morning. Of course, that did not happen. I have now been told that they will return in 12 days. In conclusion, this is the third house in which I have had custom closets. This is the first time I have used Closets by Design – Palm Beach. The first two houses were completed quick, professionally designed and a pleasure with whom to work. That does not explain my experience with Closets by Design – Palm Beach.

Not so good, the sales man was really nice and everything, he said he would come and check back with us after the installation but he never did probably because he didn't measure the base cabinet properly and the floor underneath the base cabinet needed tiles to be lay down on it and he said don't worry about because we are going to cover over that and no body will see that well he didn't measure that right and I have about an inch and half of like patch work tiles showing and when we try to contact the company about it all they did was offer us a discount on another job and I am like yeah sure, so I wasn't really happy with the restitution of what happen with them coming out or even offer any suggestions on how to cover the flooring now that you can see. Well the guy could have the sales person should have follow up with us like he said that he was going to, to see how we like the installation and how it came out and he never did.

The designer (Jennifer) came to our home to measure the closet dimensions, estimate the type of clothing racks and storage areas that we desired and with input from my wife provided us with a potential design. Through several telephone conversations and a second visit, we agreed up on a design and price and scheduled the installation. She did a very good job taking into account what we wanted. A 50% deposit was required. As understood at the signing of the contract, prior to the arrival of the installer, we had to remove the old clothing racks, patch the walls and paint over the patches. As an aside, matching the paint was an adventure. We were very pleased with the installation and product we received. The installer (Ben) arrived close to the scheduled time and took most of the balance of the day to install the closet. The installation of the closet modules was done very well with good fit and finish. We were pleased with the results with a relatively minor exception we discovered after the installer left. In the modules with two rows of clothing rods, the height of the rods (and shelves) were to low and close to each other so the clothes dragged and overlapped. We were able to raise the rods and shelves as most everything is adjustable. However, this should have been checked before the installer left. All in all we like our closet. The reason we gave the company and overall "B" rating and would probably not use Closets by Design again is that there was absolutely no followup by the designer or the company itself to see if we were pleased or had issues. It appears that once the product is installed, they move on quickly. Fortunately we have not needed any followup.
