Response from ARC Chimney Sweeps
Thank you for taking the time to review our company. Unfortunately there are many companies out there that are not certified, and do not know the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes to enforce. We were out at your home for an inspection on June 3rd 2015, after you purchased your deal through Angie's List on May 28th 2015. The technician that went to your home is no longer with our company, but all of our technicians are properly trained by the NFPA 211 Codes. When reading the report you were given, it appears that he saw the flue pipe had been overheated and discolored. This change in the molecules of the metal happens when the chimney experiences a chimney fire. The change in the molecular content within the metals changes the stainlless steel liner, so it is no longer stainless steel, and no longer resistant to heat according to the manufacturer. The NFPA 211 states that any chimney that has experienced a fire must be relined using materials approved by the manufacturer. To the naked eye there would be no visible problems, and yes the fireplace would still function. At every one of our appointments we are sure to take pictures and discuss any problems with the homeowner. We would be happy to send another technician out to take a look and go over it with you. We would be happy to show you pictures of our findings, and go over the NFPA codes with you at the time of the appointment. Please contact our office to set this up.
