As a follow up to our kitchen renovation, I opted to re-purpose our existing utility room which overlooked the pool and patio, into a breakfast nook. However, I still needed to have my washer and dryer in the same space, as I have a detached garage. Jeff Whitted of Whitted Construction & Renovation helped me flip-flop the design of the room so that the utility closet would be on the opposite side behind cabinetry. However, upon contacting Kraft Maid for cabinets to hide the washer and related, we found that they didn't make anything large enough to enclose an area that size. Jeff was able to think outside the box, order maple doors from the local lumber company, order stain and trim from Kraft Maid to match the kitchen cabinetry, and he created from scratch an entire wall of sliding cabinet doors with storage up above, trimmed out by the matching beading and crown molding from the kitchen. He built in shelving of varying sizes, a space for my shredder and vaccuum and pool towels. More importantly, my husband and I had a trip out of the country scheduled during this time, and Jeff handled every aspect of the project while we were gone, and we came home to find our home just a pristine as when we left it. The breakfast nook is just beautiful and the cabinetry looks like it is part of the custom kitchen cabinetry from Kraft Maid. Jeff Whitted is a "craftsman" in this day and age, and those are hard to find in this age of DIY, and "you can do it for $9.95 or something ridiculous like that" mentality. If you want custom you have to be willing to invest in your home. Every dime I spent was well worth it, and I'm sure whenever I do sell the house, the detail and quality in this kitchen will be a focal point of every buyer.
Description of Work: Converted a large utility room which overlooked the pool and patio into a breakfast nook, building custom cabinets to move and hide the washer/dryer and other storage items, while increasing storage and hiding utility item behind sliding doors on a recessed track, created from scratch to match our kitchen cabinets.

Our house is an historic 85 year old home in the downtown area of Orlando. In fall, 2010, a mark appeared on our upstairs landing ceiling, and not realizing it was water seeping through the old metal lathe into the plaster, we ignored it. When a large area of plaster crashed into our landing, we called Jeff Whitted, of Whitted Construction and Renovation. He was able to stop by the same day, assess the damage, and determined that the leak was coming from condensate-saturated ancient air conditioning ductwork in the attic. In two days, his AC sub had completely re-ducted our attic, which immediately lowered our AC bill by $100 that month. Next, his guys removed all the old ceiling plaster, after carefully covering all the wood floors with heavy corrugated cardboard to protect them, and plastic sheeting over all the doors and wallpaper. We replaced the ancient attic stair door, replaced the plaster with drywall, added crown molding and some other minor changes we requested. We were so impressed with the level of detail, that we continued on to another project, a deck off our second floor that needed to be replaced, because we had a leak into the room below. All composite, the new deck turned out beautifully. We added a Sundowner awning which they installed, and replaced some cracked stucco which was the cause of the leak. They were even able to match the paint to the rest of the house even though it was years old! Since we were having such a great experience we decided to go ahead and re-do our kitchen - a project we had been putting off for ten years because of the enormity of it. Jeff helped me in the planning with ideas and pointers of what to look for. When demolition began this year, Jeff's guys were able to move our fridge into the dining room on a piece of plywood so I'd have it for the duration of the construction, then they sealed off the kitchen from the rest of the house with plywood, using the back door only for the workers, which allowed us to have our privacy and keep the house clean at the same time. They gutted the room to the dirt floor, leveled the old floor joists, replaced the old termite-eaten windows with historically accurate energy efficient windows, updated all the electrical and plumbing, completely insulated the entire space, and the finishing touches are going on right now! It is stunning and has been a painless experience for us all around. I'd highly recommend this company and the subs that they have used have all been outstanding. They leave the place spotless when they leave. They are there at 8 AM every morning and have a plan for the day's projects. Jeff Whitted has handled every aspect of the project with professionalism, and he must have a great rapport with his subs, because when there have been issues - like the air flow to the new duct work didn't meet with his quality standards - the AC people were back and under the house that afternoon. I believe that you should do something right the first time, and while I am not a perfectionist - I appreciate craftsmen that hold themselves to that attention to detail. Jeff Whitted is that person.
