The installation process was outstanding. The crew removed my tile roof in two days, installed the underlayment in two and lastly the tile in two days. Project manager set expectations, provided daily updates and when I raised issues, they were handled quickly and in a professional manner.

Everyone from Universal Roof and Contracting was fantastic from beginning to end. Archie helped walk me through all the options and worked to get me the best deal. Raven was great setting up the work and follow up paperwork. The crew was courteous and kind through the whole day of putting up the roof. They even helped set up the wind mitigation afterwards. Completely recommend!

Description of Work: Initially, I needed a new roof on an old house that had been built in the 40's 50's. I wanted to insulate it, we could be more energy efficient. I needed to get at least three estimates before I could release the money. I called Universal Roofing and Jared came out. He was very knowledgeable about roofing systems. The problem with my roof was that it had a 1:12 built up to a 2:12 pitch, with no attic, so I was trying to decide if I should go for a built up truss system. I had contacted several other roofing companies and they indicated that I would need a general contractor to do this. Jared, however, said that they definately could do this type of roof for me and would get back with an estimate. Weeks went by and I didn't hear from him. I called three times and the young women who answered the phone apologized profusely, and said he would get back to me. I waited quite a while for a return call. When Jared did call back, he then explained that I need to get a structural engineer to draw up plans for a built up truss system before he could give me an estimate. He made an appointment to come over with the structural engineer that I asked him to choose. I met the structual engineer, but , by this time, I had already spoken to several other contractors. The other contractors I contacted were able to give me complete estimates for this type of work. which would include the engineering drawings of the new roof system, without my having to initially purchase the engineering drawings or construction documents before bidding on the work.

Description of Work: We called 6/2/11 for an estimator. Jared came, said would get structural architect estimate and would contact us in 4,5 days. On 6/20/11 left message for Jared, who returned call on 6/28/11 (message on our recorder) Meanwhile, we had "asked around" our friends/neighbors that had very bad experience with Universal. We returned his call, left message with receptionist that we would not be interested in any further dealing with Universal Roofing.

Description of Work: contacted Universal for new roof. Got estimate and gave go ahead for project. Took a year to get completion. As an aside front sidewalk was crushed during shingle delivery and no responsibility taken by Universal. Would NEVER use universal again.

+ -1 moreTHEY WERE VERY PROMPT. THEIR PRICES MY BE A LITTLE HIGH FOR SOME PEOPLE, BUT I THINK I GOT MY MONEY'S WORTH.
Description of Work: THEY RE-ROOFED MY ENTIRE FLAT, SHINGLE ROOF. THEY HAD TO REPAIR ALL THE ROTTED WOOD FIRST. THEY TRIED TO SLANT IT A LITTLE SO WATER WOULDN'T POND ON MY ROOF. THEY DID A GOOD JOB TO PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE. THEY ALSO REPLACED MY SKYLIGHT WHICH WAS ROTTED FOR ALL THE ROOF PONDING.

+ -1 moreEstimator showed up on time. Estimated price was reasonable. Owner of company was very helpful in getting insurance company to pay for entire new roof instead of small repair. Had to wait six months for materials. Could not get straight answer able regarding delivery of materials. When materials and crew arrived no one spoke English. Took one month to finish job due to lack of materials and available crew. Roof passed inspection. Materials supplier put lien on house because roofer was late in paying them. (Universal eventually did pay and lien was removed.)
Description of Work: Removed and disposed of hurricane damaged roof. Replaced shingles and flat roofing material.

+ -1 moreThe process of replacing our roof took NINE months. During this time, getting a call back from the office was extremely difficult. The sub-contractor crushed a part of our sidewalk and again calls to Universal went unreturned. The owner eventually responded to my letter and denied any responsibility for the damage incurred. It then took another three months to complete this job, and repair of the sidewalk cost us an additional $500. This was our worst experience ever with a contractor!
Description of Work: Removed and replaced entire roof. Work included shingles, skylights and flat roof over porch. Shingles are dimensional and warranty is separate from guarantee of roof repair work.

+ -1 moreTook a month longer to do than quoted. One day it rained and I received water damage in my garage but Universal would not acknowledge any blame on their part. Were very quick to ask for their money, but I always had to call them to get information. They called to get the balance due before the roof was even done!!! The roof is finally finished but I wish I had gone with another company. They don't seem to want to make sure the customer is satisfied.

+ -1 moreIn fairness to this company, there were many roofs in Orange County with hurricane damage. But, our salesperson promised a roof within 8-10 weeks of signing the contract. It was four months later that I finally got a new roof but, this was after phoning almost daily to find out the status on my roofing supplies. I was not happy with Universal's response to some minor damages to my property...their response was nothing. Also, there were problems in their billing department that I had to work through. All in all, the roof replacement work was excellent, the customer service of the company itself leaves alot to be desired.
Description of Work: New roof installed and old roof removed after hurricane damage. Also, replaced damaged wood decking on roof.

The job was poorly done and has failed inspection twice. The company has demanded full payment twice when the roof repair was not completed.
