The Handyman Company

I am in the Army and was searching for a good handyman service that my family could call upon while I was on a combat deployment overseas. I wanted to try out a company so I bought from Angies List Big Deal, "$49 for 2 Hours of Handyman Service" from a company named Handyman Connection. Justin, the employee from Handyman came out and finished the work in about 1 1/2 hours, well under two hours. Then he charged me an additional $125 beyond the $49 I paid to Angies List for a total of $179 for what was listed as $49. I believe this is known as bait and switch. The work completed included repairing stucco outside the house, repairing a couple of small holes in the drywall inside, and applying texture to the drywall. The stucco repair has since crumbled and the drywall repair stood out so much even after painting that we had to hang a picture over the repair to hide it. Due to the overcharge and poor workmanship I feel that this company has earned an F grade overall and I would not recommend it.

The crown molding was installed using nails that were far too big and damaged the top of the cabinet. I could not see the damage until after the handyman left.

The company was really good. They sent out individual carpenters. The carpenters actually knew what they were doing, and they were real good too. I liked them a lot. I did have some problems. One of the guys used a sander and didn’t have a vacuum joint or any kind of dust protection put up. He covered up my house in dust; it was all over the place. I called the cleaning company to come out and clean after them. The Handyman Company didn’t charge me for that; they took it off the bill. So it was fine. I liked what they did. Their responsiveness was pretty good. The first carpenter that they sent out who is the one that dusted the house had a baby at that time while he was there. He wasn’t able to show up for several days. So they sent somebody else out, and he did good too. They were real sweet as they could be. They were nice people. With regard to punctuality, he was in the middle. His wife was going into labor, and he had some family issues coming up.

The person who did the work was great, but the cost of the labor was just too much

The work was completed and looks good, but it was a long time coming. This business uses subcontractors, and your experience will probably depend on who you get. Ray was very nice, but he would arrive late and leave a mess. Then he would back out if the next day he was scheduled to come. I picked up the amount of quarter round and baseboard he told me to buy, but it was not enough. Instead of telling me he needed more, he left a gap. When he came back to do the work on the porch, I had to ask him to finish the closet. when he regrouted the porch, the color was a complete mismatch. Since it was still wet when he left, I didn't realize that it would still not match when it dried. But Handyman Company sent out another subcontractor to stain all the grout to match. Overall I am happy with the the result, but it took weeks to complete some pretty simple jobs.

The person they sent was wonderful. He gave me a free estimate and recommended some work that needed to be done on my roof. I will have him come back out and do the work when the roof is fixed. I really appreciated his honesty.

Excellent service! Called the Handyman Company, and Jose and his assistant were out to our home the next day for an estimate. They returned to do the work the following day, and were finished and the area was cleaned up by late afternoon. Couldn't be more pleased with this provider, and will definitely call them again.

the first handyman that raised the cabinet rescheduled the appointment, did a poor job, talked the entire time and hinted that he expected a tip. The second handyman that was sent out to install the trim readjusted the job the first repair did and did an excellent job installing the trim. The second man I would recommend, the second I would not.

Nicole was extremely professional and pleasant when I called in October. She scheduled the appointment for the next day and had no problem accomodating my schedule. Wayne arrived on time, was pleasant and extremely helpful in explaining the do's and don'ts or the work I wanted done. He took the time to walk me through the whole process. We were not able to start until mid November due to schedules both ours and theirs however, once the project started it moved at a good pace. Wayne was extremely professional and personable. He knew what he was doing and did it well. Even though we ran into some issues during the remodel with windows and doors not being level Wayne knew how to fix them and gave us several options. He never tried to talk us into anyhting we were uncomfortable with when it came to correcting the issues. The project became a little larger than anticipated but I am truly satisifed with the outcome. Overall I am extremely pleased with the job and will use them again in the future.

I first had called about a week earlier just to talk over a few things- one of them being if the worker would be an employee of the business or if they were subbing out the work. I was led to believe all work was done by employees. When the gentle man came to the house and looked over the job he quoted $1000 and indicated he only got half and the company got the other half so I assume thats why his bid was so high. I found a contractor who did only texturing for his business and at a much better price.

He removed the stucco and outside plywood. Found the leaking elbow and repaired it. We let everything dry out for two days and he came back when he said he would and replaced the plywood so that I could have someone else re-stucco the outside. He did what I asked him to do when I asked. Good job.

He showed up on time and completed the work in a timely manner. Was very pleased with the work done and the price seems correct for an entire days work.

They were on prompt in response and on time for the appointment. The cost was reasonable and the work was excellent!

It was supposed to take one day. He said he would come the next morning so he could finish it. He did not come the next morning, or day. I got ahold of their message service and they said someone would be getting back to me but they never did.

When I called them yesterday, I was told nobody could see the job until today. I then got a phone call from Wayne, who told me he had an hour or so, while a plumber was working where he was to finish up and could come right out to give the quote. He showed up and everything was "No problem. We can handle that." He quoted me a very good price, about half what others quoted me and I accepted. He showed up today 45 minutes early(awesome job, man!) and went right to work. He got the job done, and we are looking forward to using you guys again. He was extremely respectful, and when there was an issue, he brought me in to show me the issues and tell me his solutions. He did not charge extra for the issues that came up and was a delight to have working in my house.

The service provider was on time. He hung both sets of closet doors without difficulty. Mission accomplished, excellent result.

Original handyman showed up on time for the estimate appointment. He provided us with a fair estimate. The day before work was to begin I was informed that another handyman would be doing the work due to scheduling conflict with the original handyman. The handyman called before showing up and he showed up on time. He was very thorough. It took longer than he anticipated but in the end we were very satisfied with the work. The shelves were removed and the painting went very smoothly. One thing I really liked was he suggested we replace al the electrical outlets and switches in the room to give it a "new" look. He only charged us for the material (approx $8.00) and he replaced ail the outlets and switches in less than 15 minutes giving the room a great look. I highly recommend this company for handyman work..

He came on time, gave me a fair price quote, and when he finished, he cleaned his work area and left everything spotless. I would definitely use this company again.

They did very good work. Were prompt and professional. They also cleaned up very well . Would highly recommend.

They were awesome. I had so many people come and look at my drywall situation and these were the only people that got it right.

The handyman showed up on time, took a break only for lunch, and cleaned up the area when complete. All materials were accounted for, and came in under estimate. I had a good deal of trouble finding a provider who would perform a small stucco job, and the other estimates I received were fairly ridiculous. The Handyman Company is on my list of contractors I would contact again.

I found his prices very expensive. We went ahead and did the work, but for the amount of time spent here. I felt it was not worth it. Will not hire again.

Serviceman Charlie Green. Showed up promptly for our estimate. He told us he would be able to install the following day. He showed up on time, was polite and professional. Would use Charlie and the company again.
