He was good. He ran into a couple of issues with the installation but did a work around. Everything was great and he was on time and a real nice guy. He even worked a little past the 2 hours and did not charge me any extra.
Description of Work: It was a deal for $49 for 2 hours of handyman service. They installed shelving units in the garage.

I reached out to The Handyman Co. after hurting myself on the job. I didn't have a lot of time to finish my project so I was pleasantly surprised when Nicole responded so quickly and said someone could come out the same day and provide an estimate. After approving the estimate Steve & John showed up at 5 am and worked all day to finish the job in time. My floor tile and thinset set were all removed and prepped perfectly for hardwood. I could not have been more pleased with the experience. They were professional, kept me informed, and did the job right until it was done. I couldn't have asked for a better team to complete the job.
Description of Work: Remove floor tile, glue, and thinset. Prep for hardwood install.

The first contractor came over and had to rip up the old floor (it was a tongue-in-groove type that had been glued to the concrete pad of the house) with the same bamboo hardwood product (so it would match the rest of the areas of the house that had bamboo flooring). In removing it and preping the concete for the new floor they had to use a grinder to get the old dried glue residue off. Unfortunately, they didn't put up a plactic curtain and glue dust went all through the house. Then it turned out that the surface of the new boards had these dull spots/scuff marks all over the floor boards. The contractor had used a soft white rubber mallet to knock the boards tightly into place and had caused these marks (I don't think he realized the problems doing this would cause on this particular flooring product). He recommend using Oderles Mineral spirits to remove the marks but that didn't work. The company sent over 2 more contractors, each with a different product to see if the marks could be removed, but no luck. The company decided to replace the damaged new floor at their cost. Since the product I originally purchased for the flooring was no longer availabe at the store (it was discontinued and that was why I got it on sale). I worked with the contractor (Paul) to find a substitute that matched the rest of the house and the company ordered all the materials. The next week, a new contractor (Adam Labyari) and a helper came out to rip out floor again (which had been glued down like the original floor). It was hard noisy work but they got the floor removed, put down a good vapor barrier/floor padding and installed the new click-lock type floor boards and reinstalled the trim in just 1 day. They had to come back a couple days later to get the flooring they removed (they didn't have room in the truck at the time). Over all I was happy with the workmanship of original new floor work (the unfortunate issue with the scuff marks aside). But when there was no solution to the problem the company stood behind the work and did what was needed to correct the work at their cost. I would definitly use them again.
Description of Work: I needed to relpace the bamboo hardword floor in my living room (17 x 13) since one of the prior owners had dmadged the floor some and then polyurothaned over it.

The guy The Handyman Company sent to do our estimate was named Robert. He called us when he was on his way and he showed up on time. We wanted to do a bathroom remodel, which involved replacing the linoleum flooring with tile, removing the wall paper, painting the walls and ceiling, creating and installing some drawers in an existing half wall, staining the drawers to match existing wood trimming, and replacing the commode. Robert gave us an estimate that we thought was reasonable. We had to decide on what type of tile and how to lay it out, choose the paint, the commode, etc. We also needed a window repaired and to replace some rotten wood in our patio bar. Robert did everything himself, except the window repair which was done by another person he recommended. It took about 10 days but everything turned out fantastic. Staining the new drawers to perfectly match the existing wood proved to be difficult, so we paid a couple hundred for him to spend an extra day to get it to match exactly (we were warned beforehand that the stain on the new wood might not match exactly). It's amazing that one person has so many skills: carpentry, painting, staining, tiling, etc. He was very fastidious, being careful to make sure everything was aligned and fit. He also had a very positive attitude when anything would go wrong. Now our problem is that the bathroom looks better than the rest of house! (LOL) We would definitely hire him again.

Jim came to my home to give ma an estimate for replacing a window panel in my Anderson storm door. I had purchased the replacement panel from Anderson Doors. I told him they sent directions with the panel and gave them to him. He said it would cost $300.00 to replace it. I asked him why so much and he told me that he wasn't sure if it would take him 5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 days to replace it. I told him I couldn't afford that price and he asked what I would be willing to pay. I told him I had no idea what it would cost and thanked him for his time. My next door neighbor came over and had it fixed in 20 minutes.

Peter was my craftsman and was more than qualified for the work. He prepared the quote and did all the work by himself in 4 1/2 days except for applying the orange peel. Another contractor for the company provided this service and if it wasn't for Peter I would of given this review lower marks. Because the person who did the orange peel didn't prep the areas for the application and I had orange peel on newly crafted trim pieces that Peter made. Peter had to go back over these areas with sandpaper and re-primed it. Other than this mishap I am very satisfied with Peter's craftsmanship. He built a beautiful wall with decorative windows and everything matches up as if the wall and doorways were built when the house was 10 years ago. The 3 decorative arches Peter enclosed was masterful along with adding a doorway into an archway was nothing short of perfection. Again, his work pays off when I have to tell people who visit that these areas were recently crafted and weren't part of the original house plan.
Description of Work: Turn a formal living room into an office by building an insulated wall with 2 decorative high windows, adding a doorway and sealing off 3 decorative holes on another wall. Added a doorway from the master bedroom into the master bathroom where just an archway stood before. Changed the orientation of a door leading into the master bedroom. All work was prepped, sanded, primed and orange peel applied.

I demo'd the old ceiling and fans in the porch, and wanted a more durable ceiling material - so we went with hardie board. I had no interest in trying to do that myself, so we called Ron back in after a previous successful experience with him. He lost a day when his helper didn't show up, but rented a ceiling panel jack the following day and completed the job by himself (I would have stayed home to help, but he was done before I knew he was alone.) With relocated cabinets in the kitchen, the existing lighting wasn't going to work, so we had Ron install two new can lights, as well as removing an old track light, and installing three pendant lights. He did a good, quick job of it. We have him scheduled to be back to do some work in the garage for us.
Description of Work: 1. Installed hardie board ceiling panels at back porch (14' x 30') and caulk joints. 2. Installed two ceiling fans at back porch. 3. Installed two can lights in kitchen ceiling. 4. Installed three pendant lights in kitchen.

One of our projects for the summer was replacement of kitchen flooring, counter tops, and replace or refinish cabinets. The demo was within our technology to handle, but we needed help with the cabinets and sinks. Ron was quick and competent. We are very happy with the work he did for us.

I had hired a different company for about half the price of this one, so a lot of this will be comparison. The handyman arrived on time. He'd brought caulk and Liquid Nail that he charged me for. While I didn't mind paying for materials, I'd told him before that I didn't need the finish work done on the baseboards, I just needed them to be replaced. He also bought 3 times more caulk than he needed. I used the excess to do the finish work on previously installed baseboards, and I still have a whole tube left. I told him this again before he started the work, but he did the finish work anyhow. (English was not his strong suit.) It also took him much longer to replace the baseboards, but the quality of the work was slightly better and again he did the caulking. When he got to the pressure washing, he didn't have his own hose and had to go buy one. He didn't charge me for this, because he took the hose with him. It doesn't seem like he charged me for the time either. It was incredibly difficult to communicate what areas needed pressure washing because of the language barrier, and I actually didn't bother doing some of what I had originally planned because I just gave up. The pressure washing he did was very thorough and looked good. If I'd done the review right away I'd say this: While the communication issues were frustrating and it was more expensive than the other guys, he did do better work than they did. About a week after, though, I discovered that he'd pressured washed a screen and damaged it. I took pictures and emailed it, but the email didn't go through due to the file size. Almost a month after, I got a leak in my car's tire. When I was investigating this, I realized that he'd stacked all the old baseboard in with the remaining new pieces, and made a pile of old nails on a toolbox next to the baseboards. (I didn't see them there and had assumed he took the trash away with him.) The pile of nails was right next to where I park my car in the garage. Turns out one of those nails made its way into my tire. Here's where my review goes from a typical handyman company review to an overall A review. At first I was p***** because they hadn't even contacted me for the first problem, but then I realized my email hadn't gone through. I called instead and told them about both the screen and nail. They immediately put me through to a supervisor (Paul) with no hassle. I told him everything again. When I told him I have photos of both items, he said that wasn't necessary. He immediately apologized and said to replace the tire and the screen and send him the receipts. When I got ahold of him and emailed the receipts, he sent the check out the very same day. No hassle, no fuss, no problems. The other guy I'd called because his guy had forgotten a step in the work he'd done that caused my dishwasher to stop draining. He didn't want to hear it and I ended up troubleshooting and fixing the problem myself so I wouldn't have to deal with him anymore. So Paul's reaction was very refreshing after dealing with that other company. If I can afford it, I'll use The Handyman Company again.

Robert was very thorough and professional. He got all the materials and paint and worked well into the evening so that the job was completed before the holiday. ( over 10 hours). He had both myself and my husband inspect the work to make sure it was done to our satisfaction. I would recommend their services for any of the items we had done.
Description of Work: Repaired and replaced all the smoke detectors in house, replaced and repaired two interior recessed lights, replaced 3 outdoor light fixtures by garage. OMG Where to begin?!? This company was a living NIGHTMARE. Of all the companies on this list- DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. This was, by their estimate, a 3 day- $1200.00 tile job. Handyman Company sent an estimator to evaluate time and cost (the job was which pretty cut and dry). 4 WEEKS LATER... So many things wrong- it was apparent the contractor had no idea how to do elementary tile work. 1st he was to install a [concrete] curb for the shower- the installer tried to use STYROFOAM to create the curb... let me say this again "Styrofoam". Next- the tile... the first time it was laid down it looked like a puzzle gone awry... nothing was spaced properly- if at all. It was a MESS. I told the installer who immediately pulled up the tile so to reset it all. Take 2; This was just as bad as the first one... its like the dude was BLIND, the cuts were also all over the place with some tiles "overlapping" others, which I didn't even know was possible. When I came home I told him again- this was not correct on any level. Take 3; Here we are now weeks into this mess and AGAIN it is a mess, only this time the job was completed... there was no way to pull up the tile it was SET. BABY MOST MERCIFUL JESUS- w**? I was out of state at this point and they pressured me to accept the job as complete. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES would this job have been acceptable to even a BLIND PERSON. I said I wouldn't sign until I inspected it- when I did it was an EPIC disaster... and that's putting it lightly. Tile was all over the place- the installer made me buy additional tiles because he burned through everything nearly twice. I called the company to ask what the heck was going on here. HandyMan Company sent a supervisor [Paul] who said "we already saw this and agree its wrong", then tells me "this was the guys [installer] first tile job. I agree this was probably not the job to put him on"- W**? Who sends an unqualified person to do ANY "professional" job?!? So then Paul proceeds to tell me (this after now nearly 4 weeks of pain and suffering and NO BATHROOM) that they "can" do it right, however it will cost about $500 or more. Yep folks- thats rights, Paul was trying to make up for the money they lost by charging more... aside from the fact they now needed to take it all down and back to start AND refurnish all tile and supply. So I called my attorney- who ensured Handyman Company replaced all materials, removed their complete EPIC FAIL of a job, and leave the situation exactly as to the way it was before they tortured me with their presence. Sadly this was all I could get them to commit to after a 6 week condo bathroom HORROR. Whatever you do- DO NOT BELIEVE THE HANDYMAN COMPANY RANKING ON Angie's List... there is no way this company could fail so crazily and not have done this multiple times before- especially handling it so very poorly. I think they are stacking their rating. DO NOT USE HANDYMAN company- EVER. EVER. Just when I was dismayed with this site I did find a miracle of a handyman. This guy exemplifies professionalism and he did a perfect job the first time. If you need tilework call Holden Handyman Company. You will love this guy- his price was his price, time on the job was the time he said, and the job was perfect.

About the only thing that went right was the initial visit. Contractor #1 showed up for the estimate. He did well enough. I advised that I wanted the door and area around it to exactly match the rest of my house since it is right inside the front door. I was told in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't be able to tell where the addition was made. Note here that at this point the house is only 3 weeks old at best! After some initial work to frame in the area where the door was to go, the contract kept either getting sick or running into issues that would prevent him from coming back. This went on for a couple of weeks and I contacted the Field Manager. The Field Manager told me that he thought Contractor #1 was done with the work already! Needless to say he wasn't. The Field Manager promised that Contractor #1 would be out the next morning. The next morning rolls around and no Contractor #1. Apparently his tools were stolen or something. Field Manager tells me that he will have Contractor #2 (whom I have not met yet) come out and finish the work. Contractor #2 shows up the next day. I have to explain the whole situation over again. He at least shows up as planned. He did a fine job hanging the door and crown molding, but he did get paint all over a desk that cost more than the addition. (This after I asked him if he needed to cover the desk). He got paint on my new blinds, on my whiteboard, etc. As for the handy work with mud and tape, I'm being nice to say that it left something to be desired. He added so much mud that it sticks out about a quarter inch from the wall it is connected to. The texture looks like an absolute mess, there are holes in it as well as visible cracks. It looks like my kid could have done a better job. Again, all of this is about 18 inches inside my front door. It makes my new house look like crap. I would highly discourage you from pursuing any business with these guys. I'm off to try to find another contractor who can hopefully fix this mess before my wife breaks down in tears again.

I always have a good experience with them. If you need something done, but not something huge, then they are a fantastic company to call. They might even be able to handle something huge, but I have not ever used them for that. They are always prompt, they always send people who know what they are doing, they are experienced in whatever the trade is that you are looking for. I have never been steered wrong with them, and I would encourage anybody to give them a try. The work has always been right on the money, and they have never gone over their estimate.

- When I first scheduled with the Handyman Company, no one showed up. - I did get a phone call with an apology that the computer messed up or a message was not relayed to the repairman to come out. - A justifiable scheduling problem. - We made another appointment and the man did show up. He was friendly and we went through the house. I pointed out what needed to be done & we scheduled the following Wednesday for him to return at the same time. The repair man explained he would talk with his boss, get me a quote/ price and (because I lived on his way home) wanted the same time of day to return. - Never got a call and no one ever came back. - No money was exchanged so I am not that upset. With already two issues with reliability, I need some one I can count on. Will no be using them in the future to waste my time again.
