I would not recommend them-I can't speak for how they do their work, but to me how the rep behaved tells me a lot about the company.
Description of Work: Rep came out from Handyman Connection for appt that was 9-9:30am. 5-12-2012. The first thing he said was that he called my house at 8:00am and no one answered so he "almost did not come" The phone number he was given was off by a digit. I checked my e-mail to their office and I had given my correct number. I showed him around my house, I need A LOT of work done! I need some drywall put up in my kitchen, I have brand new kitchen cabinets that I need installed as well as countertops installed, I need the whole kitchen & laundry room floor re-tiled, I want the popcorn in the entire house removed and redone in knock down, the whole house needs painting. I also have Pergo flooring installed that needs the reducers installed and the trim finished off. I also have a lot of outdoor work; but he said they don't do that. His second question was "are you moving in or moving out?" What difference does that make? I said we moved out; but want to get the house ready ASAP to lease over the summer, several people are already interested. He said he would have to get with one of their "craftsmen" to get a quote for me. Why? I am not asking for any custom work, it is pretty straightforward what I need. The house was left to me and I have over $65K available to spend on renovations. Apparently either my job was too small or Handyman Connection is just too busy, because today is the 23rd and I have not heard a peep from them!

He was prompt and notified me of exactly when he was going to be arriving. He is more than just a handyman, he's a craftsman. He's really skilled. The quality and professionalism is great and I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: They fixed and repainted my front porch columns, sealed the front porch deck and back patio area, installed faucets, painted exterior doors, fixed a broken screen, and replaced some weather stripping on doors.

gutter repair, handyman service, doors

After searching Angie’s List for a top service provider, I contacted HMC. The results of the “repairs” are: rollers not replaced and remains in same condition as before the visit, attic staircase brackets were adjusted and the base of the steps were cut with a saw, the attic door is not flush with the ceiling (no one is allowed to use the stair because its not safe or able to hold any weight). The heavy water pouring from the lanai gutter is so bad that I have to cover my plants with a plastic shower curtain and umbrella. The original Handyman cut a 4"x4” square in the lanai gutter to try to slow down the overflow. Essentially, nothing was repaired or replaced. Since that time, I had 2 other HMC men at my home to assess the problems. The first man attempted to justify the original repairs (???). He said he’d come back and fix the large gutter cut and leaks and I should shop Home Depot for a new attic staircase. All I would have to do is pay for parts – not labor. The third gentleman who came was more realistic. He told me the work done was not adequate, he’d pull the original invoice, have another supervisor evaluate the situation, and HMC would get back to me. That was on February 29, 2012. I e-mailed a message to describing the issues and asked for my money back. A supervisor did call twice and left a message at my home. I didn't call him back. I was, and still am, very displeased with HMC. I have a 4"x4" hole in the gutter, leaking seams in 4 parts of the gutter, a broken attic ladder, a sliding glass door that still needs rollers, and every other issue before I used HMC...only worse. In April, shortly after the last call from the supervisor, I received a full refund. Under no circumstances will I refer or use Handyman Connection.
Description of Work: The initial date of service on October 17, 2012 was to repair a family room sliding glass door (needed rollers), repair or replace attic staircase, repair leaks/drips in 4 sections of lanai gutters (not downspout), fix downpour in gutter that runs onto the newly paved patio.

We called Handyman Connection based on all the positive reviews, however our experience was very different. We called to schedule an appointment and were told that the handyman could do the estimate and the work the same day. We he arrived, he was able to give us an estimate (which was reasonable and we agreed to it) but we had to schedule an additional appointment. We did and no one ever showed up, when we called we were told there was a scheduling mix up and we rescheduled. Today was the thirdmissed appointment or "mix-up." When we called to inquire if someone was on the way or about what happened the operator was unhelpful and we are unable to ever speak to the actual person who made the appointment or the person who was supposed to do the work. I don't recommend wasting your time waiting around for this company to ever show up.
Description of Work: We made an appointment for an estimate and were told the services could be preformed same-day, they could not. Unfortunately, we were only able to get an estimate.

Immediate response on initial call. Set up time for estimate. Juan called earlier than expected to see if he could come by early since he was in the neighborhood. This saved my afternoon so I could run errands. He was very professional when he camre to do the job. I will use this company again in the near future to replace kitchen and Florida room tile.
Description of Work: Juan removed and replaced the threshold for my front door, which had water damage. He was extremely good at his job and when finished, he cleaned up all work areas of debris and clutter.

Mike Capolupo did a great job. It did take him 2 days to complete because with the type of work he ran into a problem and it was late so we asked him to come the next day. I would defiantly use Mike again. I'm not sure if I would use Handyman Connection again. I spoke with the office to set the appointment and they explained that the deal could cost more, that materials were not included. Which I understood. But when Mike gave me the estimate It was very high. But when I spoke with the office again I was told that the value of the is deducted the total estimate, which made more sense than the first explanation to me. I had asked for quotes for the hanging light fixture and repair of to location in the ceiling. I only had the light fixture work done. I do still think that the prices quoted were high. The work done was worth more than I paid and I know that even with someone else the cost would have been higher. But not sure it would have cost the amount quoted. All in all I'm happy with the work and with Mike.
Description of Work: I had a hanging light fixture hung from the ceiling. Which needed to have the electric fixture and wiring done.

When we purchased our new home, we realized pretty quickly we wanted a space set apart for a library area. French doors were the answer. We looked on Angie's list for "handymen" and contacted Handyman Connection. The rest of the story is above. The service was high quality and the response immediate. We found Angie's list helpful in contacting a reputable handyman. The work was completed with excellence and on time.
Description of Work: Dave Brown was the "handyman" who came to our home. He is excellent. He installed internal french doors for us. We liked him so much, we had him come back to install three recessed lights in our kitchen ceiling area. We hope to have him come again for other projects. The amount is approximate as it includes his labor and the materials needed to complete the two items. We were extremely satisfied and happy with his work. We will call upon him again!

Ken evaluated the job to be done, gave us an estimate & comprehensive list of supplies to be purchased. Although his estimate was not the lowest, we were impressed with his knowledge & professionalism. He began the job the day after we called him to say that we had obtained everything we needed (there were 2 special orders). Ken disposed of everything he removed & made every effort to keep the bathroom & surrounding area clean. The job was done in 2 days, meaning that we did not have access to this bathroom (there are others). for only 1 night. Ken installed the vanity, adjusting the height so that the existing mirror could still be used. The only pri ce change was for $32 for additional supplies (as per the contract) & Ken had a receipt to verify the purchases.
Description of Work: The work included painting a bathroom, removing the existing floor, vanity & toilet. The room was tiled & a new vanity & toilet were installed. The existing shower stall was untouched. The above price was for labor only.

The hardiboard siding had fallen off between my 2 story house and garage. The pitch is very steep and difficult to work on. I called 2 other places besides Handyman Connection. One never called back, one called back eventually and gave a higher estimate but Handyman Connection called promptly, gave a fair estimate and was very professional. After being hired, Luis showed up right on time and worked extremely hard on a difficult job. It was very hot that day, and he was out on a pitched roof by himself. I am not sure he knew what he got himself into, but he never complained and continued to work until the job was completed. I do have more work to be done and will hire Handyman Connection as soon as I have the funds. Thank you Angie's List for the information/referral!

Excellent! Mike Patterson was terrific. The areas that needed attention are so well blended that you cannot tell there was ever a repair needed. Handyman Connection pays attention to detail. We were advised that for our initial appointment Mr. Patterson was running late thirty minutes prior to our appointment time! Plus we were given a time of when he would be at our home. Mr. Patterson contacted us the day prior to the start of the job to inform us of his arrival time and actually arrived thirty minutes ahead of time. He is professional, courteous and considerate, willing to answer any questions we had whether it related to the job at hand or anything else in our home.

One of the best service calls ever!
Description of Work: I had a half dozen elecrical jobs that needed to be done ( switching out 25 year old lights fixture , both interior and exterior, plus theOne of the best serr repair of several outside receptacles). My inquiry was answered by The Handyman Connection office within 24 hours, the appointment scheduled for that day and all were completed by dinner time. The work was done professionally, reasonably and by someone who cared about their work product. I will definitely use this form, as well as recommend them, again, and again, and again.

.The painter arrived on time. However, due to the fact that no one communicated with me before his arrival, time was wasted as he had to pick up needed supplies. I was not fully informed about what materials would be needed to complete the job. Communication was extremely poor ! I had no problem with the painter, it was the communication with the company spokesman that has made me reconsider using this company again.
Description of Work: I had a very small painting job to be completed and changed my mind about having the entire patio painted. The price change was minimal. I added some additional work instead and was quoted an outrageous fee ! I negotiated a lower price, but still feel that I paid too much for the work that was done. I had called the company two days ahead of the scheduled appointment to discuss the changes and get a new price quote. No one called me back after leaving two messages. I needed this work completed because of my work schedule and decided to let the painter finish. I would not use Handyman.com again !

I received a call from the 1st Handyman telling me when he could come. That part was good. I got all the supplies ready for him. He started with the little touch-ups and then went to the door sweep. Unfortunately, he took off the old door sweep and drilled holes for the new door sweep. I did not know he had drilled the holes. After screwing the door sweep on - he said he could not get it to work. Eventually he said that it was too heavy for that storm door. Because of my disabilities I am not always able to go to the stores whenever. I told the Handyman I would call him when I had the new door sweeps. I was able to return that door sweep and purchase 2 more of different weights within the week. I called the Handyman and he said that he would give me a call when he was closer to Orlando. He said he lived 30 miles away and wasn't coming back just for that job plus 45 minutes more that was left. He originally said that he only came down to the office (around the corner from my home) on Mondays. I had figured I could have him put some cup hooks on the outside of the door and windows for Xmas decorations. He said that the new door sweep would be free and also the paint touch-ups that he missed. I noticed on the statement that he had already put down that he was at my house for 2 hours - that was not the case. After 3 weeks he had not called so I called his Cell and he was close to my house and that was on a Friday and he could come over. I was planning on having him come on the following Monday because my impression he gave me was that he was only in my neighborhood on Monday. He argued that he did not say that and instead of getting into it with him I told him he could come within the hour. Athough I was not well I decided to have him come to get it over with. Once there - he picked the door sweep that he thought would work, drilled more holes, and after discussing with me that there was still an opening - I agreed and told him that the part of the sweep only had to be cut a tiny bit to fit nicely in the door. He not only cut too much of one end but cut the other end off also leaving 2 gaps instead of one. I showed it to him and he started to pull on the black rubber part and I asked him not to do it because it was not moving - he apparently had screwed it to the door. He continued to stretch it until it was wavy and now 3 gaps. I had continued to tell him not to do it but he did and I told him that there was more room for bugs to come in and he claimed only ants. When he went to do the cup hooks I had decided that I did not want him to do anymore at my home - too many mistakes and more work for me. I told him that I wanted a plumbing to come in for the 45 minutes left to take out parts of the drain in my tub so I could replace it. I called the office and asked for the Manager and explained what I needed. I did not hear from him for a couple of days. In the meantime, I had received an additional $25 coupon from Ohio - some Headquarters for Handyman Connections. I received a call from Handyman and I thought it was the Manager at first but it was someone asking for my opinion and I explained that my time was not done and of my disappointment. I also told her that I was waiting for the Manager to call and I thought she was calling for him. She was calling from Canada and now she was giving me a $15 extra discount on any other work. She made the call for me to Orlando to get the Manager to call me the next day and I asked for a Plumber. I received a call the next day that he could come the following day. When he came he asked about some of the problems that had occurred so I showed him. He asked if there was other work that I had wanted to do. I said I had several jobs that I was thinking of but I wanted to finish what was started first. I told him definitely about the drain plug to be removed so I could have it replaced. I showed him the $25 coupon and told him the Lady (I gave the name & telephone #) that gave the 15% off. This was such a mess. He took the drain plugs out so I could buy the replacement. He walked around the place giving me estimates and he wrote them down on the statement. I went to Home Depot and got the replacements for another door sweep. I also got the drain plugs replacements and asked a lot of questions in regards to some of the jobs I had spoken to the Plumber about. When I called the Plumber back the next day to let him know that I had the new parts for the drain plugs and the new door sweep. I also asked him if they were going to cover the cost for the new door sweep since their 1st Handyman ruined the 1st brand new one. He said he would speak to the Manager about it. I asked him when he would be coming back and he said the next day. At the end of the conversation I asked him again when he would be coming. I had already told him that I was deaf in one ear and wanted to make sure. He took a tone with me but said, I told you tomorrow. The next day came and he did not show up. I had changed my plans because he said he was coming. The following day I spoke to my daughter and she called him for me because I was very upset that he did not show up when he said. He told her that he was coming within 2 hours and the Manager said they would not pay for the new door sweep and they would not honor the $25 coupon or the 15% off. She left work and came to my home knowing how upset I was. She was going to handle most of it when he came because I was too upset. When he came to the house he let it be known that he was not only a Master Plumber but he was the Field Manager for Handyman Connections. He told me that he was doing me a favorite by trying to fix what was wrong. I couldn't believe that they were having me pay for another new door sweep even if their man ruined the other new one. I told him that I did not want him doing the new door sweep. I wanted him to fix the drain plugs which would not take 45 minutes to screw 2 plugs in. I did not want Handyman Connections at my house anymore for anything. Once he did the drain plugs I told him that I did not want anything else to be done and I would wipe the rest off so there would be nothing left as credit. He said he had other amounts and that he was here giving me estimates for an hour and a half the other day and that he had built a shelf for my bathroom over the toilet. I never asked him to do it. I had already figured out that I could make one myself. It was only a 5" x 12" to sit over another counter. He wanted to charge me for coming to the house, giving estimates and making things not asked to do. The statement had what was suppose to be done for free or to replace what was not done and the rest of the 45 minutes. That was on the left side and on the right side was the Estimates. This is November 6th, 2011 and this started on July 11th. I will not be hiring them again..
Description of Work: Being a senior citizen and disabled I have had several issues with being taken advantage of by service people. I got on Angie's List in hopes that I could have a better experience. Unfortunately, this particular company did not give me the better experience and it has taken me almost a month of waiting to do this report to calm myself so I would not give them all F's. I purchased the $49 coupon on July 11th, 2011 for 2 hours of work. I initially wanted touch-ups on an exterior door that the Maintenance Man in the condo had missed. I had the touch-up paint. I also wanted a door sweep put on my back storm door. I had the paint, artist little brushes, and a new door sweep. None of this work was completed and there were problems for months waiting for some results. My story is on the next section but I can tell you something that was interesting. With all the problems I had and before the Field Manager left my house he made a comment to my daughter and myself. He told us that if you wanted to have a job done correctly hire a Specialist. He said what you get with Handyman Connections is a "handyman." I also found out that this particular Handyman Connections owns 6 in the Orlando area. It is a Franchise. I did not know that Handyman Connections are all over the country so I was surprised when I received mail from Ohio and then a call from Canada and then Orlando a couple of times. I now know.

The tech who came originally did not do a good job at all. First of all he left a mess in the room, ( pieces of wire and other stuff all over the floor), did not move the bed back which he moved to do the job and, worst of all, he drilled extra holes in the ceiling and did not even mention it or offer to fill them in. My son was home when the work was done and told me that the guy was only at the house about an hour. I had already put the fan blades together before he came. I had purchased an Angie's List special for 2 hours of work. I called the company and was told that they would get back with me about my dissatisfaction but no one called me back. I was ready to just write off the company when I decided to call again. This time someone called me back right away and someone else came back to fix the problem. He was very professional and filled in the holes and painted the ceiling in that area. I also found out that that the person who had done the original work was no longer with the company. I would use the company again as I have used them before once for numerous little odd jobs and was very satisfied. I also learned that if I do not get a call back in a reasonable amount of time that I need to call again.
Description of Work: I had a ceiling fan installed and a very minor plumbing adjustment done.

Dave Brown provided an accurate quote of the job, and estimate of the materials. He showed up on the date promised and was very thorough and professional. I would definately use them again.
Description of Work: I had a punch list of things that had to be done after puchasing a house. 1. Wood rot around a couple of windows and other areas needs replacing, all windows re-caulked. 2. The botton of one post on the back patio has wood rot. 3. Hardy Board damage on two places, I bought the board, just need it cut and replaced. 4. Replace 2 outside lights, one coach light on the garage, one on the back patio. 5. Hook up ice maker. I had ittings, but not the pipe cutter. 6. Repair hose bib/mount on right side of house. 7. Replace/repair weather stripping at the bottom of front doors, gap exists. The labor was $480, it took him a little more than a full day, he picked up the additional parts needed and I paid an addiitonal $60 in parts, which were actual costs from Home Depot.

Willy Garcia was very professional and the entire process went smoothly. They showed up for the estimate when expected, scheduled the work quickly after we accepted the estimate, showed up on time and and completed the work in one day. During the work, they found several more damaged places which they fixed even though it was not included in the original quote. They did not charge additional for these few areas. They provided receipts for the materials used in the job. All in all, it was a great experience and I will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Replaced rotted wood on the exterior of our house in several places, including removing the damaged wood and tar paper, replacing with new, caulking and cleanup. Installed flashing to reduce future water damage. The original quote did not including priming and painting the installed wood, nor the cost of materials.

I purchased 2 hours of handyman service from Angie's list because I had and outside door to be replaced. I figured it would take about 2 hours. The service tech arrived on time. When we talked about the job and I showed him the previously purchased door, he realized I had purchased the wrong depth of prehung door and offered a solution which I accepted. He called the office and got a price quote of $350 to replace it. I questioned it because I thought it would take about 2 hours and my purchased coupon would cover it, or at lease I might have to pay for 1 more hour @$60/hour. He said that on door replacement there was a flat rate. As I had already committed my day off and money in the purchase of the coupon I reluctantly approved the installation fee. (I didn't need any other services to use the coupon for and it would expire in a few weeks. The door replacement took a little over 3 hours including a trip to Home Depot for some supplies needed to adjust the door opening. It was a reasonable time for the installation. The job was done professionally and properly and I was pleased with the results. I am totally displeased with the price since based on the coupon and fact that the coupon covered 2 hours at $60/hr, I expected to pay for maybe an additional hour at $60 per. Instead of an additional $90 for the 1.5 hours extra it took, I paid $230. With the coupon, I was over a barrel, pay the additional or loose the coupon I had already purchased since I had no other work to be done at that time. It almost seems that the purchase of the coupon was worthless and in fact I paid $83/hour , as the total price I paid was $290 (230 +50 for the coupon) for aprox 3.5 hours which equals $83/hour not the $60/hour the coupon indicated. Don't let the apparent great deal on the coupon fool you. Get the price on the project before you purchase the coupon and get other estimates. In hind sight I would have been better off cutting my loses and forgo the coupon I had already paid for as another handyman said he would have replaced the door for $200.
Description of Work: I had an outside door to my garage replaced with using a prepuchased door and a coupon purchased thru Angie's list. The work was excellent but the final price paid left a bad taste in my mouth. I would probably never go back to Handyman connection because of it.

Response from The Handyman Company
At Handyman Connection customer satisfaction is our top priority. Upon receiving this review our manager reached out to the customer who advised us that he was very happy with the quality of the work however he had concerns regarding the price. We explained that we do not do work at an hourly rate but on set pricing that we guarantee up front in writing. If work exceeds the estimated hours there is never an additional fee due, the estimated price is good through completion. We also guarantee all workmanship for a year as part of the value of our services. The promotion the customer had purchased was for a set value of $120 for 2 hours worth of handyman work and was a promotional discounted price, however the value of that promotion does not constitute an hourly rate for additional work needed. We applied the value of the voucher toward the total estimated price and the customer agreed to pay the balance of the estimate. At Handyman Connection, we work hard to accommodate our customers as best we can. The customer was offered by the manager to personally review the estimate for any future work needed and offered to apply a manager’s discount. We hope that we will be afforded the opportunity. -Handyman Connection Management
