Jon came out the day after my phone call.  Very punctual and polite.  He is very professional and honest.  He helped educate me in that the existing soffits could be left up and the new material placed over them.  However, since they were the old style paperboard and some were deteriorated, it would be better to remove them.  There was no pressure to decide either way.  He left that decision entirely up to me.
I did additional research I determined his assessment was correct.  The limited ventilation on the old soffits restricted air flow through the attic increasing the A/C load.  This will be an additional charge for removal and hauling away, but well worth it in the long run.  The increase in cost is less than $500.00  He will also repair an eaves trough issue for no additional cost.
I have the work scheduled for next week and will add to this review at that time.

Update after job.
Jonathan's crew came out on the agreed day and began work.  Jon had estimated the job to be done in two to three days. On Wednesday, I noticed the crew taking overly long breaks and basically not working up to par.  There was a heavy rain the next day and I did not expect them to work.  They had left equipment in the yard and did not return on Friday.

I made a call to Jon who came out immediately and was appalled at the work and the fact that new equipment had been left out in the rain.  He told me he would be back on the Monday and insure the job was finished properly.

True to his word, he came back, without the crew <bg>, and completed the job.  He also re-worked several areas that were not up to his standards.  Honestly, I could not see anything wrong.  He also did some additional work that we had discussed but he did not charge me for it.  He said that in all fairness, his crew messed up and he would insure all was right and proper.

I am very pleased, not only with the job that was performed, but by the manner in which Jonathan stepped up to the plate and remained true to his word.  He did an excellent job on this job and I am going to use him again on another job early next year.
