I cannot believe the customer service i get from Schick roofing. Paul comes out same day and the service was performed next day. This has happened twice. I called Sue crying :) when water was rushing into the house and she had Paul out right away. You see bad things on TV about roofers sometimes and this was the opposite. I highly recommend this company. Eric

This was my first roof replacement. I had researched multiple companies and obtained multiple quotes. The Schick sales rep. George came to our home and was very detailed in regards to the service they would provide and answered our questions. Paul, the owner, came to look at our roof and made his recommendations for the dead valley's and more. I was very impressed with their options for our dead valley's. None of the other companies were able to provide an option for fixing our dead valley's. From the beginning of construction to the end of the project, the company provided updates and pictures of their progress. Our rep visited the site multiple times to make sure everything was on target and was there to answer any questions, concerns, or inquiries we had. In addition, the project supervisors were also very attentive to our needs and questions. Schick Roofing is a great company and I would recommend them to anyone. Thank you Schick.

I called Paul Schick for an estimate, and without any personal visit, a proposal was sent (more expensive than others). Then I requested a meeting for exchanging ideas, and expecting some suggestions as for color and details, it never occurred, I imagine it was due to lots of requests after Hurricane Irma, but they should have given me an explanation if that was the case. I'll never recommend them again.

I learned about Schick Roofing from my neighborhood watch as the owner lives a few blocks away. My roof was improperly installed by a prior owner and I had been having new leaks popping up with every bad storm, so I decided to get a quote from them, along with a few others in the area. The owner, Paul, personally came out with another employee and both checked the roof very thoroughly. The roof was less than 10 years old so from the street it looks almost like new, but there were many hidden issues that they had to look into in order to give an accurate estimate. He gave me a ballpark estimate on the spot and said he'd send a written offer over once he got back to the office. I received it later that evening and had a few questions for him, which he promptly answered. He took the time to clearly explain what the roof project entails, noise, dust and other issues that could occur since we were replacing so many skylights. I appreciated knowing up front so we could plan for them, although it wasn't too bad anyway. They were not the cheapest nor the most expensive quote that I got, but his online reviews were good and I like the idea of doing business with someone in my community. I did mention to him one quote that was significantly cheaper than his and the others (most were pretty close) and he advised me that they all pay the same price for materials so if one is so much lower than the average, some corners may be cut or they may be using day laborers to save costs. Schick Roofing has in-house crews that are covered by the company's contractor license as well as its workers comp and liability insurance. The 2nd runner up roofer also mentioned the same thing in regards to day laborers being used when the price is too good to be true. An important thing I learned about hiring a roofer is to take the time to verify their license with the state and determine if their workers are actual employees or just 1099/temp workers. Using a company that hires unlicensed and possibly unskilled day laborers as sub contractors leaves the homeowner at risk in many ways. Temp workers are typically unlicensed. It is technically illegal for them to be on your roof if they are not licensed or direct employees of a licensed company. They may have questionable skills that could result in roof problems in the future, or worse they could get hurt and sue your insurance because they have no insurance coverage of their own. There is also a risk of the individual contractors putting a lien on your home if for some reason the roofing contractor doesn't pay them for the job, even if you pay the roofer 100%. Having a valid license isn't a 100% guarantee of a problem free experience, however, it does confirm that the roofer proved knowledge and understanding of the building codes and how to protect your home from wind and water damage. It also means that they regularly provide the state with proof of insurance. Going through the process and paying the fees to become licensed proves that your roofer is committed to their business and not a fly by night contractor who may not provide a quality job or disappear on you if you run into problems. With all of that said, I signed the agreement with Schick Roofing and we set a date to start. We did have to reschedule due to torrential rains the week we planned, but that is always a risk when roofing during the Summer. Once we got past the bad weather, the crews showed up right on time and got underway. We were quite surprised how fast they were able to strip the old materials and get the roof tar papered so we would have protection against any rain. It rained pretty hard that night and we had no leaks despite not having one shingle on the roof yet. Paul confirmed that this was due to their use of heavy gauge underlayment with self-healing properties (the paper's built in adhesive seals the nails for extra protection). By the end of the second day, most of the roof was done and the new skylights were installed. They finished up the rest around lunch time the third day. They cleaned up each day after finishing up and the roof looks great. It has been several months now and despite some very heavy storms, we have not had any leaks. It is very nice to no longer have to worry about leaks every time it storms out and the new skylights are so much quieter than the old plastic ones. A big improvement! The best part was that despite some leaks, only a few boards had to be replaced and the cost was minimal, so the whole job ended up being less than I expected! A few tips that will help no matter what roofer you choose. * Verify their license at the myfloridalicense.com site. Schick's license is good! * Make sure they are using their own crews, and those crews are covered by their insurance.Schick's crews are covered! * If you will not be home during the project, the roofer may need you to disable your alarm as the noise and vibration can cause false alarms. * If you are home, expect some noise and maybe dust. In our case, this was mostly due to our skylights since opening the roof and attic dislodged some dust. We prepared and had the furniture covered and had to do a good cleaning after. If you have no skylights, you probably won't have any dust to worry about. * Ask what brand of shingles, underlayment and flashing will be used. They should use name brand products and be able to explain how they benefit you in our climate. Google the brands and see how they are rated, for extra assurance. * If you have a pool, plan to do some extra cleaning of the filter/skimmer. The removal of the old roof creates a fair amount of light dust that will shorten your normal filter cleaning interval. They were careful and our pool wasn't "downward" from the roof, but the dust did get around and made it's way in. * Ask about cleanup, any potential charges for hidden wood damage, placement of your dumpster or other factors that might impact your project. Schick was very up front about these things so it was no problem. * Plan to park your car elsewhere during the project. There will be dust, nails, trucks and trailers moving in and out of your driveway for a couple of days. Better to avoid any problems and ask a neighbor to let you park there for the project. * If you have solar panels on your roof, most roofing companies will not want to touch them and will recommend you have a specialist in those remove before the job and reinstall after. Ask them to recommend a contractor that can do this work without damaging the roof if you do not have one on speed dial. Schick Roofing educated me on the project and the products that would be used so I could decide on the best shingles and options for my budget. I have a nice warranty on labor as well as lifetime shingles, and the job was done right so I expect this will be my last roof job for a long time, so long as the hurricanes keep going to New York....
Description of Work: Replaced roof shingles, replaced 8 skylights and repaired leaky chimney.
