The worst moving experience ever. Pay extra for larger TVs, if you live above the second floor and if their movers take longer than expected. Movers were two men that couldn't lift anything at all and didn't use any of the usual moving equipment (hand trucks). They also didn't use moving blankets in their trailer, dragged the mattress through the dirt and spilled the DVDs all over the hallway (and then poorly stacked them back in the box). Damages totaled over $2500. Dropped UHD TV (that was properly secured) so hard that it broke, took a dent out of the dining room table, scratched the entertainment console, and broke a shelf on an end table. Tried to file a claim through the website and never received a response. Contacted owner multiple times with pictures and was ignored. Gave them over 3 weeks to make things right. No response.

I’m definitely hoping that the movers are better than the customer service. So not only did I call and gather as much details as possible before paying but I also then sent an email after purchasing to ensure I had my day scheduled and all my ducks in a row. What’s wonderful about this company is they managed to prove the fact that there are still companies out there that will take advantage and capitalize on already stressful situations for people. It was so incredible of you Hoffman to fail to mention to me the additional charges when I specifically asked the rep if there was anymore. And I emphasize this because I am by myself, I am trying to move on my own, I don’t have the ability to disassemble and reassemble all on my own so I asked you if that was Included and the response I got was absolutely ma’am it is. Thank you for taking MORE money from me and refusing to set my move date until I paid you another 50$. Too add even more Insult you charged me four dollars for a processing fee because apparently your company is too cheap to use any other method than square up. Classy. You are exactly what’s wrong with people now a days. You are the epitome of companies that take advanatge. Let me guess, your rep conviently “forgot” to tell me? Or let me guess she probably claims oh she did tell me...typical responses for people like you. Rather than admit default you just push blame. Again I will reiterate that I am by myself in this city, I can’t physically manage to assemble and disassemble all of it on my own. I ASKED YOU IF IT WAS INCLUDED. My hats off to you for successfully being a **** company. UPDATE: Just got off the phone with this company, so again, when I originally called before I purchased I asked several things, one, if the assembly and disassembly was included, told it was, I specifically asked for a specific day and told the girl that I was working in the morning and needed them to come in the afternoon, her response to me was that there was multiple availabilities. PERFECT RIGHT? nope, so I call them to ensure the date and time and am now being told that if I want to secure a time that I will have to pay an ADDITIONAL 50$. really, really Hoffman? are you kidding me.....you guys are by far one of the WORST companies I have encountered. You guys need to really think about what you do to people. And from reading some of the responses by the company on these reviews its clear to me how professional you really are. you dime yourself out with the way you respond. I AM PRAYING THE MOVERS ARE GOOD GUYS AND CAN GET ME TO CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT THIS COMPANY

What a terrible experience! I was moving from a small townhouse (1500 sqft) to a house 2 miles away. What should have taken 2 hours, 3 tops, took them 5 HOURS with 3 guys!! They moved like they were being paid by the hour!! Oh wait, they were!! For every extra hour over the 2 that you pay for, you pay extra. Don’t think because you buy the 2 hours, that they will get the move done in 2 hours. They also charge extras for 2 floors, securing a move time, extra stops, heavy/hard to move items etc. The big reason for the 1 star review…they tried to claim I broke my own furniture!! They claimed I broke a dresser that had been sitting in my bedroom for 5 years! The huge chunk that they broke was clean! They also scratched my stainless steel fridge…which they also claimed I moved!! I was flabbergasted that a company would try and blame the customer for something their employees did! Their employees had taken a picture of me helping them take the door off the fridge so they could fit it through the kitchen counters. The picture shows me on a ladder!! LOL My suggestion to you if you use this company…1. Get everything in writing. 2. Make sure you don’t touch anything of yours during the move. Let them do it all. 3. Photograph ALL of your expensive items (things you would be mad if they broke) 4. Video them if it looks like things are going wrong or are about to break things (BIG HELP FOR YOU TO DO THIS) 5. At the end, make sure you DOCUMENT EVERYTHING they broke/damaged on their invoice that they make you sign Now even if you do ALL OF THOSE THINGS…they are going to claim that their insurance will only pay $0.60/lb for any damages. So if for instance they broke something that will cost $200 to fix and it only weighs 100lbs, they are only going to offer you $60. You are out the $140 difference. Now if they damaged a bunch of stuff, they are going to try and lowball you and offer you $150 and give you a sob story about how their insurance rates will go up and we would like to offer you $150 to settle. Here’s an idea…quit breaking peoples stuff and you wouldn’t have such high insurance rates. RUN, DON’T WALK FROM THIS COMPANY!! There are better quality moving companies in the area. Bought a voucher on Living Social. Tried to use the voucher and the guy said I had to book through website only...not able to talk to me. Second issue.....form online asked for credit card payment. Paid for voucher already, but said I had to put cc for keeping the spot. THEN, site is NOT SECURE so contact them back regarding this situation and the message I received was not at all helpful. They cancelled our request and told us to go get a refund. CRAPPY service, would never recommend.

Awful experience. I purchased this company's services through a Groupon, which was probably my first mistake when I remember how true "you get what you pay for" often is. Groupon directed you to fill out a request form on the Hoffmann website with your location information and the specific moving dates needed. After filling out the form, I get a text from the company (they never asked if it was ok to text). They also never identified themselves by name. But they let me know that my date was available, they would show up sometime between 8am & 6pm, I needed to go back to the website to fill out another form and there was a $50 "weekend surcharge." At this point, I check the "fine print" on the Groupon because I didn't remember any surcharges being mentioned. I was correct - there was no mention of any sort of surcharges on the Groupon for the service. I then went to the Hoffmann website to investigate further. In black & white, on the specific form I was directed to fill out, there was a short Q&A section, which included this question: "Are there any taxes or surcharges." The answer was "No." No caveats, just no. I now realize it was stupid of me to make this assumption, but I thought between there being no mention of the surcharge on Groupon AND this language on their own website/form, the person texting me was misinformed or was confusing offers. I filled out the form, which asked for a credit card to put on file to be charged only if the movers used additional hours on the move day. Of course, a few days later, they charge me the $50 "weekend surcharge". I text the person back to inquire about the fee and the response I got was completely unprofessional and made me very uncomfortable about using this company. I was basically told that the Groupon is not for weekends (which was never stated anywhere) and that being told over text about the $50 fee should have made me ok with the charge. The texts were also unprofessional, with little to no punctuation and abbreviations for words like "you" (terribly unprofessional, in my opinion). Here is the rest of the actual exchange, as transcribed from the texts: My response: But you state in writing that there are no surcharges or fees. I feel that's a bit deceptive. I would like the service I paid for at the price I was quoted. Hoffmann: It's not deceptive if I tell u before hand and send u a receipt When the site was created we were not accepting any groupons for weekends My response: That's not stated on the Groupon or on your site's form. Hoffmann: I can argue that I did inform u in writing You have two choices Job or no job pick one because i have 100s of people that will gladly take ur spot We are not going to do your job at a loss No one has a problem with the fee those that do don't fill out the form My response: I wouldn't have a problem with the fee if it had been stated on the Groupon, as others do, or if the form didn't specifically promise no fees or surcharges. Hoffmann: I don't want you to feel cheated. Your job is cancelled. They informed me that they were cancelling my job and refunding me the charge, and I would have to check with Groupon myself about a full refund. A few moments later, I received another text informing me that their dispatcher was telling this person not to refund me because I was now outside their cancellation policy - even though the cancellation was their suggestion. They asked me what I wanted to do - keep the job on the books with the $50 charge or cancel with no refund. At this point, I was incredibly upset and no longer had any desire to do business with this company. My complaint is not with the actual amount of the charge - I ended up using different movers & paid 4 times what I was going to pay Hoffmann because they were upfront with their offer/pricing. I was also fully refunded on both Groupon & through my credit card company for that additional $50. Even though I was made whole, I'm still appalled by the customer service and what I feel to be shady business practices, because they don't disclose the additional charges until after the initial purchase of their services through the 3rd party. I personally feel they were deceptive/misleading and didn't live up to what they promised. I was offered 2 hours of work for $99, with no mention of additional fees or restrictions. Their own site even promised no surcharges. But that was not the case. Their customer service was also completely unimpressive with the text approach and lack of professionalism. It became quite clear they placed no value on me as a customer. After the way I was treated, I would never consider doing business with them, at any price point. Buyer beware when considering this company!
Description of Work: We purchased 2 hours of moving services with 2 workers and the truck for $99 from Groupon, but ended up cancelling because the customer service & business practices were such a terrible experience.

UPDATED: I also filed a complaint on the BBB about the same time as this, I only now got a response from them and it is June. Basically stating that I was trying to take advantage of the company and they refunded me $200 (which was not supposed to be charged in the first place). Also they lied about having my items wrapped, I simply stated I had already gotten a response from someone else who explained everything. I had let it go since I finally got my answer, which eventually was all I wanted. Obviously they had to make up an excuse months later to act as though the customer was wrong. I went on to respond if I really wanted to take advantage I could have sued them. They need to focus their efforts on better training if you ask me. AGAIN DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! PLEASE FOR YOUR SANITY! Do not use this company, I just used them last week and have been trying to get someone (to no avail) to help with the damaged furniture (ripped couch, wall in the apartment has been gouged and entertainment center has scratches) I now have! The only person, apparently Mike, that I guess can help with claims doesn't seem to know how to use email or phone since he has not contacted us at all! Movers even had to go back to the previous apartment since they couldn't move it all in one trip. We have a 2 bedroom apartment and the 2nd bedroom only had some office items! Moved within the same complex and it took them 3 hours. Last time I moved within this same complex it took just under 2. Movers also kept asking which items were going like I was going to say no leave the lamp here I don't want to move it. Also, apparently the movers are stating that our furniture already had damage, seriously? Yes, I have managed to completely ruin the couch I have had for just barley 3 months. Its a leather sectional and is ripped and torn on all the corners now. They also over charged us by $200 and the gentleman Steve (the only one we can get a hold of) was told by the ever helpful Mike that he did not charge us the extra $200. I eventually had to send pictures of the receipt and my credit card statement to get refunded! Overall the only person that has been helpful is Steve. I could go on, but simply save yourself the time and frustration!
