Maurice gave me an estimate over the phone since I knew exactly what size walk I wanted. He and his brother were on time and were professional, friendly, and helpful. A pipe from the down spout was buried where the walk was to go, and I thought the incline of the sidewalk would be sufficient to carry the water away from the house. There was a knock on the door after about an hour, and Maurice wanted to rebury the pipe next to the sidewalk. They did not charge me extra to do this even though it involved extra work. I appreciate their thoroughness and desire to do the job right. I would not have known the difference until after a big rain when I had water on my porch.

The job did not go well! I live on a hill and needed a spillway added to my circular drive and garage side drive because rainwater was flooding over the sides of both, washing away the dirt and undermining the driveways. At the same time I decided to have both drives widened a little to allow room for spillways to be added. I told Maurice, I wanted a spillway, like in the street, to carry water downhill and into the street, instead of it washing over the sides. He assured me he could do the job. He also said they would move my sprinklers that were in the way. When his men began pouring and working the concrete I kept telling them it was supposed to be a fairly deep "V" shaped spillway with a center channel to properly direct the rainwater downhill. They kept insisting that there was sufficient pitch, sloping and a groove for channeling the water downhill. The circular drive is "okay" - there are just 2 areas where the water pours over the side. The garage driveway doesn't do the job at all - it is no better than before they came! It appeared to me that maybe adding just a small concrete rim or groove would correct the problem. I called Maurice 4 times over a 2-3 week period and asked only that he come out and look at the job and see if we couldn't come up with an easy fix. He has never return any of my calls. Originally, I was only going to voice concern about the fact that rainwater is still flooding over the sides of my drive...but since Maurice hasn't had the courtesy to call me back, let me spell out the rest of the LOUSY job they did. (1)When Maurice said they would move my sprinklers that were in the way, I foolishly assumed they meant the pipes too, but no, they only moved the sprinkler heads. They buried the pipes under the concrete they poured, including a pipe they cut! (It cost me $100 to get someone to dig under the concrete to repair it!). (2) They were supposed to come back in a few days to finish cleaning up. They didn't. After I swept away all the dirt I knew why - they didn't want me to see the really SLOPPY JOB they did. There were globs of concrete everywhere and the edging and cut lines were ragged, unfinished and uneven. An Amateur could have done a better job!
Description of Work: Widened front circular and garage side driveways a little and added a sloped edge.

Highland Construction got all the necessary permits and paperwork. They gave a date when they could start and did so. The work was done on time. The people were efficient, pleasant, and did a good job. The site was left clean. They did all that they promised, and more. When we compared bids, we felt that they were the most honest, reputable and would provide good value for the dollars spent. We were right!
Description of Work: Highland Construction removed the old driveway and walkways, (along with the roots that were under them causing the cracks) and had it replaced with concrete. They cleared out the roots to the driveway and walkways to help prevent their growing back and possibly causing more problems. The concrete was poured with spacers and it was finished with a border detail. It looks great!

Maurice came out to give me a bid for the job. After comparing bids, I chose Highland Construction for their professionalism, mannerism, and price. Once we agreed to a price, the job started a little late, but finished on time. Overall the job was done very well and looks great.
Description of Work: Remove and replace existing driveway and walkway. Approximately 900 sq. ft. total.
