The crew was working across the street and agreed to some over the next day to take care of several tree limbs. We appreciated the quick response - hurricane season is underway. I was not home when the project wrapped up - my husband let me know they told him they could not take down one of the limbs as it was too rotted and dangerous, but that it would fall straight down. They still took the check for the whole amount and also let us know that the tree should be taken down soon and offered a price for that. I did call to follow up after they took the check but did not hear back. If we were to go back we would have liked to have made a decision about the tree removal rather than prolonging the problem. From their perspective they were getting ready to move on to another job in a different part of the state and were helping me out so I could protect the house - getting it storm-ready.
After having a few landscapers come by prior, though, they were the first to actually identify the rotting areas. If you look online there are several amazing videos showing their work from great heights, I looked afterwards and saw them. Definitely professionals and part of a family operation. As they left there were a few small broken limbs left around so for our neighbor that was a problem; we had several things to take to the curb anyway and did not mind. There were a few left dangling in the tree which I would have like to have had removed. We did let them know that it was OK if the wooden fence was broken as we plan to take it down. Later I read a comment about the company elsewhere online in which the person noted that the crew said a limb was too rotten to be taken down.
So if working with them I would clarify up front that the rate would be adjusted if it turns our that limbs would not be taken down - I am not sure if this is common in the field. I would also have asked for the cost of removal versus pruning and I would consider whether or not a crew with more than climbers (with a bucket truck) is a better way to go to make sure the whole job would be within reach. Within this review I noted I would not work with them again. This is because I will need the whole tree taken down I am not certain they are equipped to do this and I did not hear from the owner except when I called to ask how to make out the check (he called right back then.) Overall they worked very hard and brought experience and expertise that others had not. In the scoring about "price" I am uncertain because of the aspect of the work they could not complete. I marked this as "fair" - a "C." They rate a definite "A" for responsiveness and punctuality.
"Mrs. [Member Name Removed], I do apologize for the inconvenience but if I do recall we where working on a tight budget and agreed to only take major dead wood until you where financially ready to do the removal. We would never say that a tree is too dangerous to take down or trim when that is what we specialize in. We may say that it is too hazardous to climb ( we truly care about the safety of our employees) and in that kind of situation we would send in our crane or bucket truck. In your case we wouldn't have been able to fit a bucket truck in your back yard and a crane was not needed. We always like to make sure the customers are satisfied before making any type of payment for services and when they are not we do our very best to make them happy. I am very sorry that you where not 100% satisfied with our work and hope that in the near future we can have the chance to prove ourselves again as we are a very honest, hard working and fully equipped company with many years of experience. Thank you, Scot Flynn"
