I had them quote along with 2 other companies. N & M was high, but offered the best warranty and service. I knew I wanted them to do the job, so I asked them to lower their price, and they did. They did a great job in every respect. They are the most professional company of this kind that I know of, but be aware of the price and make sure you don't overpay.
Description of Work: Installed two of the new Carrier High Efficiency GreenSpeed air conditioner systems, along with Infinity air purifiers. By far the best systems I have ever seen, and I am an electrical engineer. For Florida, there are no better systems available.

I have previously used N & M Cool Today for electrical and HVAC services and was very pleased. So when a piece broke in our toilet that prevented it from flushing, I decided to try their plumbing service. We were as impressed as we have ever been with their service. Peter Lanza came out the same day we called. He was on time and very professional and knowledgeable. He replaced all the hardware in the toilet tank ($231) and had it back in operation in no time. We also had a problem with the tub faucet. It was extremely tight and difficult to turn on and off (took a full body tug with both hands). We had tried to look at it, but the screw head had been stripped. By the time Mr. Lanza was finished replacing the knob ($170), you could turn it on and off with one finger. We mentioned another problem that has been causing us concern, that when the hose is in use, the underground pipes rattled and squealed very loudly with vibration. We had intended to have them out at a later time to investigate, but wanted an idea of how much it might cost. Mr. Lanza said he would look at it right away. After we demonstrated the issue, he looked a little further and found that he could fix it by just replacing a backwash valve. He had this done in minutes, and didn't even charge us for this repair. When all was done (in about an hour), he presented us with the bill. On learning that we were repeat customers, he gave us a 20% discount. The price may be on the high end, but I don't know. I didn't do any comparison shopping. When I find someone who does a job so well with no hassle, they are my immediate go-to for problems. Such is the case with N & M Cook Today. Every experience I've had with them has exceeded my expectations by miles, both in quality of work and personable, helpful technicians. I will never use anyone else for AC, electrical, or plumbing services.

Jimmy arrived on time in a company truck wearing a name badge and shoe covers. He was very professional and friendly and he spent plenty of time inspecting the job. Jimmy emailed a very professional bid to me within two days. The bid offered an entire system including all necessary parts and labor and included a warranty and service agreement and disposal of all old equipment. I did not hire Cool Today for this job for two reasons. First, I received another bid for a slightly larger system with the same warranties, service agreement and old equipment removal for $2,300.00 less. They also did an excellent job of explaining their price. My second concern was with Jimmy's advice to locate the air handler in the attic rather than in a large nook in the hallway where the old furnace is currently located. Jimmy wrote: "Believe it or not, it is better for us to Install the system in the attic. This way, we wouldn?t have to add a ?Condensate Pump? to Drain the Water. Also, it makes the Ducting Better, as with a ?Vertical Mount? (in the Closet), the ?Return Grill? would be down by the Floor. Considering the fact that ?Heat Rises?, it is much better to draw the Warm Air (from above). This will give much better performance". When I expressed a concern about condensation on the air handler causing mold to form Jimmy wrote back: "That's a great question. Today's systems are designed to be in the hot environment of an attic, so I have absolutely no concerns about it being up there." After speaking with representatives from other HVAC companies and researching the question on the internet, I learned that the attic is the least energy efficient and most problematic place to put an air handler in a Florida home. The company I choose earned my business by being not only professional, but knowledgeable and fair priced as well.
Description of Work: Bid a complete new A.C. install in a 1953 concrete block house with no existing air conditioning or ductwork.

I will start off with the “Grading”. Punctuality: (D): My notes for the call indicated that it was at 12:00 PM Wednesday (7/16/14) and that I was to call you 30 minutes ahead. I called at exactly 11:37AM and got your voicemail. I arrived at the home and no one was there. I waited for 40 minutes (calling several times), until you called me and apologized for being late, but you were “on your way”. Responsiveness: (D): After my inspection, I said it would be a couple of days before you would receive your Proposal, as I would need to perform a “Manual J” Energy Calculation, as well as obtain some “Special Pricing” for you. You were very agreeable to that. I came to work on Saturday and immediately emailed your quote to you. You had some questions, so I replied immediately upon receiving your emails. Professionalism: (F): I spent nearly 2 Hours at your Home, where I took over a Dozen Photographs, Inspected the Attic, Reviewed the Electrical Requirements, as well as discussing with you your intentions with the home, as well as “Comfort Requirements and Taking several “Measurements” (to confirm the “Square Footage” of “Living Space”. We will only recommend a Particular Sized System, after this Inspection, Interview and “Manual J” Calculation. This is necessary, as “Over-Sizing” will cause the system to “Short Cycle” and you will not get the Proper “Dehumidification” required. “Under- Sizing” will cause the System to Run Continuously and Not Cool Properly. On another Note, I arrived in a Company Marked Truck, In Uniform (with Shoe Covers), with a Name Badge and all my “Background Checked, Drug Screened and Bonded” Credentials (Clearly Visible). I would stack our “Professionalism up with ANY other Company in the area and Guarantee we would “Be at the Top”. Quality: (F): We Proposed a Carrier “Bryant Series” 2 Ton (16 SEER) A/C (for your 925 Square Foot Home) with a “Transferrable” 10 Year Parts and 5 Year Labor Guarantee. We Proposed to Install 6 New Supply Ducts (Cut into the Ceiling) with all Boots and Grills, as well as a Main Return Duct (Cut into the Ceiling) with Boot and Grill. We ONLY use the Highest of Quality Ductwork, which has an “Anti-Microbial” Coating (to prevent Bacterial Growth. We never take “Short Cuts”, when it comes to “Quality”. Price: (F): your “Bottom Line” Price of $6,574 (Attic Mount) and $6,424 (Inside Home Mount) Included ALL Ductwork, as well as ALL Electrical work (Done by us as we are licensed). It also included High Efficiency Filtration WITH Free “Filters for Life”. Also Included was the Removal of your old Furnace, as well as the Removal of the old Propane Tank. This was to be a “Turn Key” Project with “No Hidden Costs”. Obviously, we are not going to be the “cheapest”, but we decided (many years ago) that it is better to explain our price, than to apologize for Poor Service and Performance, down the road. Overall: (F): I can only respond by saying “See Above”. With regard to your Comments, I can only say that we stand behind our recommendations. There is NO SUCH REQUIREMENTS regarding building a “Fire Rated Box”, for an Attic Mounted Air Handler in the City of Sarasota. As far as “Performance” is concerned, our Company Stands Behind All of our Installations with a 5 Year “No Lemon”, a 3 Year “Performance” and a 3 year “Money Back” Guarantee (all in writing) and included in my Proposal to you. Mounting the Air Handler in the Equipment Cubby (not a Closet), would have required the addition of a Condensate Pump, or you would have had the “Drain Line” running “Exposed” through the Back Bedroom Closet. We are Correct when it comes to the “Return Location” as well. In summation, it was never my intention to upset you, to the point going to Angies List (to report us), nor would I attempt to mislead you in any way. I am very sorry that I didn’t provide you with a pleasurable experience with Cool Today. Technician was excellent. He was able to diagnose the problem on an obscure brand heat pump by reading the circuit diagram and testing a few components. He ordered a new circuit board and returned a couple of days later to install it. I did not expect anyone locally to have it in stock because it is not a well-known brand. When he put the cover on, he sealed it with silicone so water could not get in as it had before. I am very pleased with the service and plan to use them again for any future A/C or heat pump needs.

The enclosure replacement went fine and was faily priced for the work required. The pool hook up was inadaquit and overpriced for screwing on 2 existing wires. They should have changed the rusted juncion box. The plumber scraped enamal off the comode and never fixed the back up. When he returned to check it, he broke my scrub brush and said someone would come to photo the line which was part of the packake and never did. He said he would paint the scraped enamal and I declined . Paint would just turn dirty. i have since replaced the comode.
Description of Work: Electrician replaced te rusted steel enclosure with an aluminum one I supplied $600 Electrician hooked up the input power wire to my new pool filter $290 Plumber snaked out a comode that tended to back up $90

Plumbing Service on September 26 and December 5, 2013. We, too, were concerned that the video inspection on your toilet back-up and the enamel scratch were not resolved. Our notes indicate that the video inspection was initially booked with our technician; however, timing was not convenient for you at that time and was left unscheduled. Additionally, we left two messages to schedule the painting/polishing on the toilet scratch. If the repair was not to your satisfaction, we would apply credit toward a new toilet. B. Electrical Service on September 26, 2013. We are pleased that you were happy with the generator housing that was installed. Our notes, as well, indicate that a whip was installed for the pool heat. However, we were not made aware of your desire to replace the junction box. We are standing by for your call to proceed at your convenience and complete the work to your satisfaction. He was very nice about it. They're excellent. They're very persistent about reminding me to call them because we bought the contract. They're really nice. They're not pushy. They're very competent. The technician was very nice. It was all labeled properly with the license numbers and all that good stuff. On the phone, they're very professional. They do what they had to do and get done. They may be a little bit higher than normal but I don't mind paying a little extra for good work and tidy work and fast and they got there right away and everything else. I think they back it up with what they do. They're very quick. They're right on time. In fact, he came ahead of time and he called first.
Description of Work: We bought their maintenance contract to come and do the cleaning and inspection in a couple of times a year. They came out a few months ago and fixed something in no time.

Here is the letter I mailed to the owner on 5/27/14: Dear Mr. DiDomenico, I want to make you aware of my experience with a service call for my air conditioner that was performed on Sunday, 5/25/14 by Joe W., invoice #371470. It rises to the level that it should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. Here is my full account: On the evening of 5/24 I noticed just before going to bed that the temperature was 77 when it?s normally 73 by then. I checked the circuit board and it was flashing a code 84 (5 consecutive high pressure trips). I reset the system and after 5 minutes it started but the condenser motor seemed slow to get going. At 5am I saw that the temp was back up to 77 and the control panel had a code 31 (prelude to code 84) and while I was at the unit the compressor started to run but not the fan so I quickly gave it a push and it cranked up to full speed. I then gave your company a call for a service visit. At around 8am I got a call on my land-line phone from what I think was a supervisor. He called because he said that the tech said my cell phone was offline, however, I called my cell from the land-line and it worked just fine and there were no missed calls. I appreciate the fact that the supervisor did some research to get my other number and call me. I discussed with him what was going on and he felt as I did that it was obviously a bad capacitor. I asked him if he needed the part number so the tech would have it with him and he said no, he?ll have it. He said the tech would call and would probably be there by 10am. At 9:30 he showed up without calling, I quickly changed clothes to greet him. The panel was already off and Joe turned off the breaker and checked the capacitor. He then proceeded to remove another panel and remove the cover from the compressor. He didn?t really seem to be checking anything and I asked him if he thought something else was wrong. He nodded his head yes and pointed to the compressor and fan motor! He said the compressor was locked out. He said he had to go to his truck and work me up an estimate. I said that the compressor had been working fine all morning and I asked if he was sure it didn?t just need a capacitor. He looked a little dumbfounded and because of my prodding he re-checked the capacitor and this time determined it was bad. He again said he had to go to his truck to work up an estimate. I asked, why don?t you put in the capacitor first and see if it all works fine or not? I also asked him why he thought it needed a compressor and he said it was because of a code 72. I told him that it never had a code 72 until he turned the power off. I also asked him about any warranty that may be left, since your company installed it in December of 2012. He left and came back with an estimate of $198.00 labor; the capacitor was still under a 10 yr part warranty. There was no fan or compressor in the estimate. He then told me he only had ½ a cap on the truck but that would get the fan going. So, I wasn?t going to get an OEM part but at least I would have A/C. While he was out getting the estimate I turned the system back on and gave the fan a push to show him when he returned that it all works. When he came back and changed the cap he turned the system off and when he did I pointed out to him that as soon as he did, the code 72 returned, which is normal because there was no power to the compressor. The cap got installed and it?s been working fine ever since. Up until this service call I would have felt confident in telling my wife to call your company and have you take care of any problems without me having to oversee it. There was nothing about this visit that didn?t seem like a blatant attempt to rip us off. I?ve been a supervisor of around 20+ professional automotive technicians for many years and the feeling I got from this tech was a deliberate con, snow-job. There didn?t seem to be anything professional about the inspection or explanations; it looked like a pure setup, plain &simple, and probably worked on most customers. How many others have bought compressors and fans that didn?t need them? And how long have they suffered without A/C while waiting for the ?needed repairs?? I am 0% satisfied, and I expect a full refund per your %100 satisfaction guarantee. I also expect to hear how you are handling this matter because it deeply concerns me that this may be going on with other unsuspecting, trusting customers as well, in which case, I shall be reporting this to the BBB and Angie?s list. Here is an email response from Ralph Hernandez on 5/28/14: Thank you for your letter. Firstly I would like to apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment that you experienced in dealing with our technician on 05/25/2014. In your letter you questioned the capacitor's warranty. Below is my response: Regarding the capacitor's warranty; warranty is voided by the manufacturer of the equipment if the equipment has not been maintained by a licensed HVAC contractor at least once per year, and/or if the equipment's reason for failure is lack of maintenance. This information was given to you the day of the installation (it can be found in the install package). According to our records (since the unit was installed in 2010), the equipment has been maintained four times in the past four years but has not been maintained in the last year and a half, therefore we must charge you for the replacement of the capacitor, unless you can provide proof of maintenance and the manufacturer approves your claim. These are the manufacturer's rules, not ours and that is what our technicians follow. You being a supervisor of over 20+ professional automotive technicians as you state, should be clear in manufacturers maintenance requirements. You should also understand that as a manager just because one employee may not follow company values, rules or systems, does not define the rest of the staff. I can assure you that your complaint and feedback has given me the opportunity to remedy any problem that may have existed regarding our diagnostic process with this and other technicians, and will help to improve our services further. Cool Today has not been in business for over 50 years by "ripping off customers." We are still in business not just because we value our loyal customers feedback, but because we treat all of ours customers with respect, integrity, and honesty. These are our values, and ALL employees must attain these traits. Our company stands in our 100% satisfaction guarantee rule, therefore I have processed a refund for $198.00 that will go back to your VISA card. Please allow 7-10 business days for this to appear on your records. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies. Should you require any further assistance, you are welcome to contact me. Here is my response to Mr Hernandez on 6/13/14: The refund that you stated that you already processed has not come through. I called Visa and they show nothing is in the works, and it normally only takes 3-5 days they said. This refund was to be my sign of your company's credibility and integrity, sadly it hasn't come about. What is the status of this refund? There has been no response. Obviously management is also dishonest in this company. I had spent a lot of money with this company over the years and was considering putting that refund back into a maintenance agreement and accepting that maybe I did just get one bad apple. But there are bad apple(s) in management, too, so use them at your own considerable risk. 8/4/14 The refund did come through, thank you. Shortly after you serviced it there was a problem with the blower and I ended up signing contract with another company but thanks for the offer.

It went well. The guy was very professional telling my husband everything he did. Everything checked out fine which is good because we did have to replace the capacitor 2 months earlier for a total bill of $207.00.

From the first visit to the follow up visit after the job was completed the experience was as good as it gets. The sales person told me what I was to get for what I was paying for once we agree upon the best suited units to use at our house. The install went as scheduled and the followup after the install was performed to make sure all was working properly. Overall a very impressive group to work with. I will use them again for other services, if I need any of those services which they offer within there scope of work.

Our A/C was not working properly according to the thermostat. It was set at 74 degrees and it said the temp in the house was 80 degrees. We called Cool Today and they said it would be 3-4 hours before they could get anyone out, but if someone were to become available sooner they would call us. we shut the a/c off. They did call 2 hours later and said that they could send someone within the next half hour. We agreed and David showed up in about 30 minutes. He proceeded to check the air temp with a temperature gage and said it was cooling as it was supposed to but if it happened again not to shut the A/C off so they could diagnose the problem. He also checked the outside unit and said it was working fine.

We had two distinct proposals from Cool Today. The first proposal included the replacement of duct work in addition to replacement of a 28 year old system. This proposal was more expensive than other estimates (which did not include duct work) we received from three other vendors. And I was not inclined to go with Cool Today. Then I saw the kiosk at Costco advertising air-conditioning and heating services. At the time i was unaware the vendor at Costco was Cool Today. A different Cool Today salesman provided a proposal which was far more in alignment with the other vendors' proposals. The salesman and installers were all very professional and answered my many questions. The Quality control individual and later a serviceman (who serviced our other air conditioning unit) were also helpful and professional. I highly recommend Cool Today &Today. The fact that Costco had also done their due diligence on this company influenced our final decision. We are pleased with the outcome.

After our a/c went out one evening we immediately started searching on Angie's list to find an a/c person. We decided to go with cool today based on their many positive reviews and we are so happy we did. The gentleman arrived right in time and immediately went to work. He had our a/c diagnosed and fixed with one hour. During his repairs the tech went through step by step what he was doing and why. We will definitely use Cool Today for all of our future a/c needs.
