As always our experience with Cool Today has been extremely professional from the first phone call to the salesman to give us our options of new units to Chuck and Tom who came out today and did the install. Everyone have been extremely professional and efficient and no BS! We've used them in the past and have never had any problems at all! The guys today were very conscious of being clean each time they came inside they put booties over their shoes! Never seen that before! Their prices are very competitive! You won't be disappointed by calling them!

The system was not cooling. He inspected it and told me it was too old and needed to be replaced. He offered to replace the motor and associated parts for about $1000. He also showed me a purported photo of the inside of the cabinet telling me that the wires were corroded and said the all the white spots were "growth", ie: mold, and that, in response to my questions, said it could be blowing thru my ducts and affecting the indoor air quality. He offered to have an estimator come over the same day and give me a free estimate of the cost for a new system, which could be up to $10,000. Fortunately I called another service provider who filled it up with 4 1/2 pounds of freon (Cool Today never mentioned that the freon was low) and said he saw no growth and the wires were slightly rusty. The system began working immediately after the freon was added. Cool Today service call was $89.

Please be assured that our certified technician did correctly diagnose the air conditioning unit. Prior to your recent purchase of the home, the home inspector's report required the seller to clean the external growth on the air handler, which Cool Today removed with an anti-biological growth killer on December 9, 2014. However, the seller declined to have maintenance performed on the system. At your request, Cool Today returned to the home on March 10, 2015, because the A/C unit was not running properly. Our technician's diagnosis and recommendation to you included: "Bad condenser fan motor, weak 60-UF dual capacitor, pitted contactor, growth in air handler, and both coils heavily corroded. Equipment is 17 years old. I will not know running condition of equipment until fan motor is replaced. Due to age and cost to repair air quality concerns, replacement consideration is recommended." Please be aware that if your A/C unit has a leak, it will continue to lose refrigerant and repair is essential. While we understand that repairs can be discouraging, we do serve our customers with integrity and will accommodate your needs with superior service. My service technician was Chris Mattingly and he was wonderful. He was extremely knowledgeable when asked about the system and the company's services. He appeared to be an extremely hard worker and dedicated to helping and pleasing the customer. Chris Mattingly did an outstanding job for me yesterday. He was very efficient and knowledgeable. Chris did a great job troubleshooting my system as well as keeping me informed along the way. Once the problem was solved he offered me very good and understandable solutions to my problem. The repair was done in good time and everything was cleaned up perfectly when he was done. There's no extra charge for Saturday, which is great. He had a hard time getting the plate off the shower wall because it had been grouted there or something probably 30 years ago, but did so without damage to the tile. I was given a 2-hour arrival window and a promise of a call, which I did get, 15 minutes prior to arrival. Good, fast, efficient.
Description of Work: My shower was leaky from the faucet. I forget what he called it, but it turned out NOT to be the valve and instead it was something more simple. He fixed it.

Inspected all aspects of my heating and air conditioning and also all aspects of my plumbing. Minor adjustments were made as needed for no additional charge.
Description of Work: I have been Plan A member of Cool Today for 3 years. I am extremely happy with their service and staff. I have had a number of repairs to my home since I bought it a few years ago. It had not been regularly maintained, but now that I am part of the Cool Today family it is very well maintained. Cool Today has provided me service for electrical work, plumbing and heating/air conditioning for the last few years. They saved me from having the ductwork in my home replaced by sealing the leaks. Today, two of their fine technicians were at my home to inspect the plumbing and heating/air conditioning systems. They were Gail Benevento and Pete Lanza. They have both been to my home before representing Cool Today and as in each case, they are professional and thorough.

After 3 incidents of the same issue (freon leak) over the 2 years, my issue was still not resolved and I've been misled throughout the process. Luckily, I paid for 2 other opinions to verify their work. If you didn't take those extra measures, you could easily be duped and give them good ratings based on their customer service alone (administrative staff, ease of scheduling, and encountered a nice AC guy prior to Dan). Incident #1 - System was low on freon. Dan Gilmore said valve cores and caps needed to be replaced. He performed fix and signed us up for a 1 year service agreement. He was professional and friendly. Incident #2 - System low on freon again. Dan arrived an hour later than given time window and was antagonistic. Dan said coils corroded and needed to be replaced for a substantial cost around ~$1k. It sounded odd because the AC unit is not that old so I paid for TWO additional AC contractors to check. They both confirmed that the coils did not need to be replaced. The contractor detected a leak in the refrigerant line. I contacted Dan to share my findings. I was relieved to hear that Cool Today was willing to honor the warranty and fix the leak. However, when Dan performed the fix he insisted that only one joint needed to be re-sodded in the refrigerant line instead of replacing the whole line as the other contractor had recommended. Incident #3 - For the 3rd time in the row now, freon is low many lbs again. I called the contractor who first identified the leak to assess the issue. He found major leakage all along the refrigerant line. He said that the re-sodded joint was not performed well and suspected there were more leaks along refrigerant line that should have been fixed. I trusted that the issue was fixed the first time, 2 years ago. I almost trusted that I had to spend so much more money to fix an issue that should have been resolved a year ago. But trust was completely broken when I found that the proposed fix would not even have resolved things and was not necessary. And when a fix was finally identified, it was not performed at the utmost quality and scope. I emailed the company twice over the last 6 months and was told they are still reviewing things. I've given up on them as a company (reported to BBB though) and just want to share my word of caution to others. It's better to go with an independent AC guy because with employees for a bigger company, there is less chance for accountability and more chance for unscrupulous practices . I met a friend who use to own an AC company and it's scary how much they can lie about your system without you knowing. UPDATE 2/18/15: Initially, after no response from two emails, Cool Today finally responded after this Angie's List review and BBB claim. Their response was very satisfactory and they were very interested in working to a resolution. They've refunded what I requested and both the field supervisor and front staff I spoke to were extremely helpful. This experience has made me realize that it's good to work with a bigger company when there is recourse needed and bigger companies often have more interest in maintaining their reputation.

When air conditioner stopped blowing cool air for over an hour we called and left message for our usual ac resource. Our usual resource did not call back so we decided to call Cool Today, aka N&M. They responded within a few hours (on Xmas Eve). After examining the system we have and listening to our history with it, the tech had explanations and offered both short and long term solutions. Basically our system was in need of replacement rather then repar, one part being 20 years old and the other being 8 years old but failing. There was no particular sales pressure, but because of the timing - end of year and end of rebate offers from our utility, it seemed to be a good time to do a replacement. We ended up deciding to take advantage of the discounts and contracted to have a system installed within a few weeks. We decided that the N&M price is reasonable and with the several discounts involved it was preferable to continuing to repair our struggling system. The office calls, the tech, and later the salesman were all exceptionally professional, knowledgeable, courteous and timely.
Description of Work: Air conditioner air handler was blocked with condensation ice and condensation drain blocked. Air filter showed significant corrosion deposits which had fallen on it. The tech showed how to melt and restore air handler function and cleaned out drain pipe. System is working, but there have been a few more times I needed to let the ice melt. The obvious conclusion was that some major replacement parts would be needed for the air handler and they would be expensive.

When we bought the house in 2011, Cool Today is the supplier who the previous owner had been using. We just continued it, and we've been happy with them. They come on time. They give us a small block of time of two hours. They always come in the block of time. If we want the same person as last time, we can ask and usually that person will come. They are clean. They have got reasonably good equipment in terms of testing and all that. They are efficient, and the people are nice. I trust them. They haven't tried to stick me with all sorts of stupid stuff. My ratings for them would be very positive. I couldn’t say that there is anything they could do any better; they do well. The pricing is reasonable. It's not that they are dead cheap, but quite frankly I'm not looking for cheap. I'm looking for good. With regard to responsiveness, they are big enough that they have office people who follow up. I would absolutely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We use Cool Today for heating and air conditioning. They come twice a year in the spring and fall. I have got a contract. We have two air conditioners in our house; one for the master bedroom area and one for the rest of the house. They installed the larger air conditioning unit for most of the house; they did that before we bought the house. Everything is working just fine. I have no reason to change. They last did a service tune-up.

I was told by Nancy when she called to set up the appointment on the phone that Doyle would call me 20 minutes prior to arrival for the appointment. He did not call, and when I asked about it he made an excuse about a problem with the previous appointment. (O.K. But, I still wanted the promised and expected phone call.) As far as I know the video inspection went well. I watched the screen while the inspection was underway. Doyle went over options with me for jetting/cleaning up the pipes, and replacing them if it is discovered that there is too much rust/scale buildup, and holes already in the pipes after cleaning them. He explained that sleeving the pipes was not effective in situations where the pipes have T's and elbows, which mine do. And I would suppose many houses do. He said many people will sell you on sleeving, without telling you that you can't sleeve the T's and elbows. Without doing any measurements at all (???) he was pretty sure that my situation would require installing a lift station for the drain pipes on the far side of the house from the septic tank, to handle the bathroom/laundry water drains. That is, if I went with exterior drain pipes, as opposed to ripping up the terrazzo floor the entire length of my house. The plumber who installed new water supply pipes throughout the entire house said after the inspection that I should be able to get a copy of the video inspection for my records. I had asked Doyle about that when he was doing the job and was told I could have a copy but would have to call the office as it wasn't something he could give me on the spot. When I called a week later I was told they might not be available as they sometimes tape over them. I have not heard back from the office, or Doyle about it. So, if you need a copy of the inspection be clear about it up front, before hiring. And if you pay for the video inspection you really should be able to get a copy of it on the spot via flash drive. ( I have discovered since that not offering me a copy of the video inspect is unprofessional, and that I should call them to have them do a do-over.) My plumber hired them so the onus is on him to get a second inspection. I did not schedule to have any further work done until I have more time to consider the options. 12/02/14 Update: Even though N&M responded here on Angie's List on Nov. 24th saying they will try to locate the video it is now two weeks later, and they have not called me to say they have it and will provide me with a copy. 2/2015 Update: They did eventually provide me with a flash drive of the video inspect. With persistence and patience it only took a month.

The air filter was left filthy. It was installed 4/8/14 and not changed by the CoolToday serviceman even though it is a throw away filter. When I called the CoolToday help line, I was told that your serviceman indicated that he cleaned it. Since he did not bring a vacuum and did not borrow mine and since the filter was filthy, he could not have done so. In any case, I had to buy my own replacement. The serviceman did find a leaking capacitor on the compressor and recommended replacement, which I did under my AHS warranty with another company. Overall, I am disappointed with the maintenance service.

I had a 7 year old failing system due to an improperly installed one. Another company that was servicing the unit never said anything about it or didn't realize the issue. So, over time, the unit was dying & leaking refrigerant. Received a few quotes with no real detail behind them. When I called Cool Today, even the person making the initial appointment realized that a system should last longer than 7 years. So she recommended sending a Sr Tech along with the Sales Guy to check things out first. They spent a good amount of time analyzing my existing setup before making any recommendations. Then, took the time to explain my existing problems and what they recommended. The recommendation was a complete new system. But to make sure the same problem didn't happen again, they reconfigured the duct work to create a "Dump Zone" when the system was providing too much cool air so it didn't make the air handler overwork. I also had a room that wasn't cooling well so they installed another zone for it and reduced the size of the duct work to force the air back to that room more efficiently. There was no high pressure sales involved. I already knew the system was leaking refrigerant so I did need to do something soon. But Cool Today also offered to recharge the refrigerant if the system stopped cooling prior to me making the decision to replace it. The install was promptly scheduled when I decided to go ahead with it. A team of techs showed up on time with the Sales Guy so they could discuss every detail that needed to be done. The tech team was great. They did a great job, cleaned up after themselves and treated my home as I would. A short time after the install. They sent out a quality control tech to make sure all work was performed correctly. He answered any other questions I had since I now had a chance to use the system. The inspector came out after that and signed off on the work. Besides having to pay for it, it was a completely painless process with no headaches of bad workmanship. It's great the system comes with a 10year bumper to bumper warranty and each room is now cooled correctly. I will continue to use them to service the unit and receive Free Filters for Life.

Everything went great. They are not the cheapest but they include lots of warranties and the quality of their work is definently worth it. I am very pleased with their service. I would highly recommend them. I have also signed a 2 year service contract with them as well for the future maintenace of the systems.

The salesmam was a pro. He inspected everywhere and asked a million questions to determine exactly what our needs were and he surpassed our expectations. He is the go-to person when you are looking for a new unit. After getting 4 other estimates and nearly fainting I thought he was kidding when I saw theirs. It was approximately 4500.00 less than the others and it was for a much better system. The install crew was led by Tom. He and three other young men arrived at their scheduled appointment time and began work immediately.While all were friendly they were still very professional.They had a full days work ahead and they completed it in a most professional and timely manner. Removing the existing air conditioning unit and gas furnace. Removing old ducting and adding two new duct lines and vents. They kept the area clean and when all was done my garage area was cleaner than when they first arrived.
Description of Work: Installed new 4-ton a/c unit and gas furnace, installed 2 new duct lines and new vents.

I can only say good things about them and all their service people. They will come to your house the day called, yes, even on a Sunday.
Description of Work: Initially installed new HVAC. Superb job with excellent follow through. Any warranty work done same day as call. Continuing preventive maintenance. Have also used them for electrical. I'd give them the highest rating possible. They aren't the least expensive but they deliver the best service. On the only occasion they were at fault they admitted the error, and quickly resolved the issue. Not the cheapest but the absolute best value and highest marks for honesty!

It is difficult to rate the performance of this type of service, since we don't know how to tune up an A/C. Justin said Our A/C is not performing the way it should and eventually we are going to make a decision about what comes next. The A/C is, indeed, 13 years old.
Description of Work: Although, Justin arrived two and a half hours late, the company called us to let us know he was tied up on another job. when he arrived he was friendly and polite. However, the company did not give us an Angieslist discount. We were asked for an Angieslist coupon??

Company was hired to diagnosis issue with 2 of 3 air handlers in our home. Technician advised us that all 3 systems in fact were no longer under warranty and the cost of repair would exceed repair costs. Due to their company repair model, he would need to perform temporary fixes to get us up and running while they scheduled a replacement specialist (ie Sales guy) to come out and assess replacement costs. Prior to spending over $20,000 to replace 3 units we chose to get the systems looked at by another company (during this interim we received several calls from Cool Today to move forward)... The second company assessed the problem and was able to fix the 2 units needing attention on the spot. The total cost by the second company for a complete fix was within 10% of the cost we paid for a "temporary fix" to Cool Today. We subsequently contacted Cool Today several times over a 3 month period requesting a refund of the unused maintenance program we purchased the same day as their initial diagnosis (which we were advised could be refunded at time of purchase). Coincidentally the manager I was told I must speak with was in "manager meetings" every time I called and has never returned a call or issued a refund. Additionally, we hired this company (through our G.C.) during a major remodel. The work they did included installation of a refrigerator water/ice line, dishwasher line, new garbage disposal, insta-hot water heater and sink faucets... EVERY component they installed leaked on first try. We had to call them back to repair the leaks. Water damage is NOT something you want to happen after a complete rebuild. On these occasions we did not request money back, just working components thus we did receive timely responses to our call for service. UPDATE: I was subsequently contacted by a company representative. She was very empathetic to my experience and professional in her handling and follow-up to ensure a refund was received. I improved the rating slightly; however, as a coincidence the last day she called to confirm we received a refund for the air-conditioning unit I happened to be at the house with the plumbing issues where we discovered two new leaks during Thanksgiving dinner cleanup! However, both myself and another sales person from another company was astounded when within 5-10 minutes of my hanging up the phone with her she had a technician out to deal with that problem!! If I could count on more employees like her I would happily stay with the company. My hope is my situation(s) with them were flukes and not representative of their overall service quality.

Please accept our sincere apology for disappointing you and any inconvenience you experienced. After review of your circumstances, we have determined that we were at fault for not providing accurate information on your air conditioner warranty. We discovered that our technician used a common practice in this trade to confirm the age of the equipment by reading the model and serial number. However, it is not very common to come across air conditioning equipment built two years prior to installation. We will certainly review this unusual warranty issue at our next training meeting with our technicians. As well, we recognize that we have failed you by not reaching out to you immediately after your initial contact with us. We apologize for any disrespect, and our Field Service Manager has been made aware of your incident in order that it does not happen again. Please be assured, however, that we have reviewed the technician's comprehensive notes on all three units. It has been determined that the correct diagnoses were made to perform the temporary repairs to keep the units operating. Although not all the recommended repairs were approved, he was able to provide cooling comfort to your home upon his departure. In order to assist you, our Field Service Manager did attempt to reach you a few times to resolve these issues. However, because he was not successful in making contact, please consider the proposed resolution to resolve your concerns: (1) the service agreement for three air conditioning units has been refunded in the amount of $412 on September 26, 2014, and (2) a refund check for temporary repairs in the amount of $491 is being processed. Once you receive your final check, please notify Angie's List that we have come to a satisfactory resolution. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. I have never had a problem with the a/c dept. The plumbing dept. came out to unclog a sewer line from the house due to a clogged toilet. He did recommend another expensive procedure which involved digging up the front yard to the main. I discussed this with a retired plumber friend and another plumber and both said that was not needed. I do believe the worker knew this was really not needed but felt he should tell me anyway for what reason I do not know other than to cover his butt in case the pumping didn't do the job. These new toilets use less water and all I needed to do was switch brands of t.paper to a single ply. I had never had a problem before this new toilet was installed and I have not had a problem since. Other than that I have no complaints with this company.
