The process was fine except I thought the technician could have done a better job putting the grass back after he had finished. The last time I had it done the technician that came did an excellent job.

We had a different company come out and replace the tank. But they didn't call us so that we could be at the house so they did the work without us being there so they rubbed us the wrong way. So we went with a different company afterwards.

They were fine. The price is about average. It was in the same price zone as 2 or 3 others that I had checked. They showed up when they said they would. They did a decent job. Everything was nice.

They showed up on time as scheduled to complete the job. The guys got right to work and after approx. 2 hours said that they were complete with the plumbing. I went and inspected the work and this is when the major issues began. First of all I already had the new double vanity and was not having them install or hook up to it. All I was having them do is the in the wall plumbing and drain lines. They were supposed to be modifying the existing single sink setup to a double sink setup. I first made notice of the plumbing pipe configuration. If I could show a picture I would. It was all over in the wall and looked very unprofessional and thrown together. I didn't make a huge deal of this though because it was working. I then noticed that the stub outs appeared to be to low for the new vanity, which they supposedly measured. So I measured them and they were way off. I pointed this out and they agreed that they were wrong. So they started to fix it. Approx 1 hour later and after completely removing the plumbing they put in and then reinstalling it at the correct measurements, they again said they were complete. I again inspected and this time I found that they had actually secured the plumbing (pex) tubes in the wall with zip ties. Not a big deal except they zip tied all of the pipes to the electrical wiring running above them in the wall. i again pointed this out and the tech actually said "well that isn't code by any means, but tell me what its going to do?" I made him fix it. So a feeling a little reluctant I finally accepted the job as complete. I was then presented with a much larger bill than originally quoted for. I do understand that sometimes quotes are off a little so I examined the bill. This is when I noticed that I was being charged hourly, including the hour of labor it took them to correct their original mistake. The tech said I had to speak with the plumbing manager about this on the phone, which I gladly did. He then tried to make me feel better by telling me "I will knock $40 off and not charge you for the final full hour." This infuriated me and we started to go back and forth over the issue. In doing so he came back with several solutions to the price, non of which were acceptable by any professional standard or common sense. I finally put my foot down and said I was not paying for them to fix a screw up on their part. The technician then became angry and started to spout off about how "we could have just sat around for like 4 hours and charged you for that price and you wouldn't have even known." I think I actually laughed at this. The tech said thought I was cheating them because they had to do extra work and more work than originally thought. Anyway we settled the bill and Brownies will not be back on my property again.

[member name removed], My name is Marc and I am the President of Brownies Septic and Plumbing. I have read your review and thoroughly researched your job. I have met with the on-site plumber and plumbing manager. I am sorry this one job wasn’t handled the way you would have liked. We used it as a teaching experience with all of our plumbers to make sure it doesn’t happen again. What I found odd about your review is that you failed to mention to Angie’s List Subscribers that you also had 7 additional jobs done by Brownies totaling over $9,000 and you seemed to be very pleased with. We also took the time to refer you to one of our restoration partners – ELR Restoration Inc. They not only helped you with your water damage but helped you get more than $20,000 from your insurance company to pay for the dry out and have your contents cleaned and restored. I think it is only fair that Angie’s List subscribers get total picture and a fair view of everything that Brownie’s has done for you…not just the one job you had a problem with. MARC

We chose Brownie’s because the original owner of the house had used them and they had all the records. He was fine: he was efficient, professional and quick. He checked the tank and told us everything was fine and he went on his way. He offered us a time that was suitable to us. We hadn’t gotten prices from anyone else but we feel that the price was fairly average. We called them last year and I spoke to someone and I told them I was thinking about getting the tank emptied. They told me that we had had it emptied two years ago and that we only needed to do it every three years or so. They could have come out and charged us; that’s why we stuck with them.

We had an estimate done to have our drain field replaced and immediately accepted the bid in January. We were told it would be approximately a month between our deposit acceptance and the beginning of construction due to county permit process. In March, I followed up as we still had not heard anything and they said they'd get back to me. Several days later they called to say the permit had been lost and they had to do it again so we waited another month before they scheduled a day to come out and do the construction. They scheduled 2 different days with me to do the installation and failed to show up either day without following up or rescheduling until I called late in the afternoon. Then they insisted that they do the installation on the one day that I would be out of town. I was unhappy about this, but they insisted I did not need to be home.We had a 8 year old fruiting orange tree at the very edge of my property that they tore down without asking or telling us about it. We just came home and it had been pushed to the side and had been apparently pushed over with some type of equipment. It was not in the drain field area and when they came for their check they said they "needed to turn around" in that area. I have a huge backyard, over 1 acre lot, and there is no way this was necessary - just easier. He says "we usually call about trees".They left the entire lawn in ruins. We knew the ground would be turned over, but it wasn't filled in levelly with places where there are pits and lots of 6-8" tire tracks in the yard. There were branches strewn everywhere and soda bottles and large pieces of some type of black pipe strewn around. They left the orange tree thrown against the trees on the side of the yard. They broke my fence by ripping the wire fence off the posts and bending it back so it can't be put back to normal. They cut the pipe for my irrigation system and did not mark where they cut it at all just capping it off somewhere in the yard and throwing the large pieces of PVC on top of my garden. So, when we go to fix the irrigation system we have to somehow figure out where to connect it to the pipes which are buried somewhere in the ground. What a fun treasure hunt that will be. When they came to get the check they said "we usually mark those."I told them that they would not be paid until they cleaned up the mess. He got his truck and drove it through my yard and loaded the orange tree into the back and then came and wanted to be paid. I shouldn't have give in, but I felt very pressured so I did.Do not use this company. Overall, they made me wait 4 months to have my field replaced and did a terrible job. Poor customer service, poor attention to detail and they will destroy your lawn. UPDATE: When we went to sell our home, we were informed that Brownie's didn't properly take care of the permitting/closing permits of this job and the inspector had notes on what Brownie's had to do but they did not do. We were never told anything. What a disaster this became and buyers used it as a way to get us to accept less for our house. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Miguel came out to do the work. He pointed out that the filter (between tank and drain field) was plugged, probably because it had not been cleaned in the past. Indeed, it was not cleaned the last time I had the tank drained (by another company). Miguel was very professional. I'm grateful that they found time to come out on a Sunday afternoon.

Waited all day the first time and they never came, re-scheduled for the next day; however told them I wouldn't be home so left specific instructions as to where to park the truck, place hoses over fence carefully, etc. Arrived home as he was leaving my driveway, which is not kosher. He pulled out onto the street and came back and handed me the invoice as well as a towel that was in the driveway. It turned out that it was my towel from my spa area (what he was doing back there is beyond me), which was now filthy; he said he used it to "protect" the driveway, which has filth on it anyway. He did not use my garden hose to wash out the septic tank nor clean his hose; why, I don't know. The invoice said because no one was home, the mainline couldn't be checked, even though I was there before he left. When I've had this done other times, the access port is checked and exit from the house is also vacuumned, thereby eliminating any non-serious clogs. He said we don't do that when I called this morning. I told him I'd never call them again!

Office staff and service guys nice, polite. While pumping the septic, was informed my pump needed replacing and could have a plumber from the company come out the next day and do it for $1200. I called my own plumber and got the job done for $425. I did go to a 1/3 hp pump from a 1/2 (he said that they recommend that nowadays), but with a 1/2 hp I would still have only paid around $600. Must have thought they'd seen me coming, as I am a female.

The septic backed up on a holiday. They came out the next day. We had to go out of town so we spoke to them on the phone and they said it sounded like we needed a pump out. We agreed on a price and I left a check with a neighbor. They pumped the tank. The very next week it backed up again. I phoned Brownie's and they claimed they tried to get in touch with us. Apparently they discovered that we would need a new drain-field. I asked them why we had not been told this prior to the pumping?? They did not have a good answer and said they would provide us an estimate for a drain-field. After getting several estimates from other companies I was told that a thorough pump-out would be required as part of the process of putting in a new drain-field. Needless to say Brownie's did not mention that. In sum, we had paid $300 to pump a tank when the problem was our entire drain-field. Every contractor that provided us an estimate knew we needed a new drain-field without pumping the tank.
