We called Air Engineers when one of our 2 existing units quit working (we had purchased the home in 2010 and had not had issues with the house cooling prior to that time). They came out, gave us an estimate, and began work within a few days (August 2012). After the work was completed, the house wasn't cooling as well as it had been before the original unit quit working, which was surprising, given we had just had two new units installed. At the time of the install, they suggested we may need a new well point and well pump, so we had that work done, and called them back out to reroute a couple of the lines (September 2013). However, our house still wasn't cooling properly, and we called them back out again in January (2013). At that point, they told us it was our thermostat (which was only 1 year old), so we replaced our thermostat. Our house still wasn't cooling, so we had them back out again (June 2013), and this time they said we needed to redesign the duct system in the attic, and replace all of the duct work. As luck would have it, they did not want to do the work in the heat of summer, so we called a few companies in the interim to get some other quotes. Each of the other companies who came out said not only did we not need new duct work, but that our duct system was in great shape, with good supply lines - that we may want to add a return or two, but otherwise, the duct system was fine as it was. Two of the companies asked if the company that installed the new units had pulled a permit and prepared a load calculation, because they didn't think we had the correct sized units for our home. One of the companies performed a load calculation, which showed we actually needed a 4-ton unit and a 3-ton unit (which was what my husband recalled we had in the first place before the new units were installed). As soon as I heard we needed a permit, I checked the City of Orlando permit site (which confirmed that a permit was indeed required), and then I called Air Engineers and insisted that they pull a permit for the work they had done. The permit process was a nightmare - it took roughly 6 months from the date I requested the permit to the date of the final permit approval - and constant calls and follow-up with Air Engineers about the status of the permit, the inspection and the re-inspection. After the initial inspection, there were a couple of items that needed to be fixed, including adding float switches. After Air Engineers added the float switches, the performance of the units was worse than before, with the units cutting off every few seconds. When we called Air Engineers about it, they said we should try sucking out the drain lines because they were likely clogged, but offered little else to help. We ended up calling another company to come out and help unclog the drain lines. And all the while our house was still not cooling properly. Also, from the moment we asked for a permit to be pulled, we were told they would not address the cooling issue until the permit process was complete. The final permit approval was given in January of 2014, and we have not heard from them since. In the meantime, we had a different company perform a load calculation, and have had a new 4-ton unit installed by that company. Our house is finally cooling. We have a 1 1/2 year old 3-ton water source unit just sitting in our garage. I hope never again to spend the same money twice - lesson learned.
Description of Work: Replaced existing water source A/C units with 2 new 3-ton units
