I had made the appointment and went over the list of jobs several times. I live out of town and had to make arrangements over the phone. Basic jobs like installing a tile back splash, repairing some places in the sheetrock, repairing the ceiling where there was a Water leak. But no, he wasted my time and money having to drive all the way down here for him to do nothing. I think all he wanted was a simple job like fixing a running toilet.
Description of Work: Nothing. he walked in and said I can't do this and walked out.

[member name removed] – The successful outcome to a project requires that the customer and contractor develop a shared vision of what needs to be done. This includes a realistic sense of the effort and timeframe required to complete the work, and a budget appropriate for the project to be done. The work to be done at your home was more extensive then we understood from your call. Our Technician was onsite for almost an hour discussing the collective body of work you needed done, working his way through the home and reviewing that work, and gaining an understanding of your requirements for completion. He called me, the owner of the business, for input prior to declining this and we both agreed that we’d be unable to execute your project per the parameters you’d established, in the timeframes you desired. Many contractors, unfortunately, would start a project like yours to make it theirs, and then float in and out as they juggle more projects than they should have underway at one time. This isn’t our mode of operation and sometimes it’s best to say “Thanks, but we’re not prepared for this project right now”. While I understand this was frustrating, you’d have been even more frustrated if we’d have taken on the project, strung you along and failed to deliver in the required timeframe. I hope you found somebody that was able to assist with your needs in the desired timeframe.

Pete showed up on time and completed a job very few people want to do or know how to do. We had several people who stated they would try and do the job. We don't like the phrase, " will try & do it." Pete did the job right. He had to come back to do one minor adjustment on one slide but there was no charge. Mr Handyman did an excellent job. We have hired them for another job. We were very impressed with Pete. In addition, this Mr Handyman franchise carries full insurance.

The handyman showed up without the necessary supplies to do the job. He said he was not informed by the parent company exactly what supplies he would need. He then told me I can drive 40 minutes roundtrip to Home Depot to get the supplies he needs or we can reschedule. Neither was an option after waiting 9 days for this guy to show up on scheduled appointment. Epic failure. The parent company who dispatches these guys do a horrible job of informing their contractors what needs to get done and what supplies are needed. They failed to provide enough details, thus wasting everybody's time. The contractor also told me this happens frequently. So how anyone can rate these guys an A is beyond me. F for FAIL! Now I have to find someone else with a holiday weekend coming up. Thanks a lot Mr. Handyman!

[member name removed] - We strive very hard to leave everyone thrilled and I’m disappointed that we failed you in that regard. In comparing our vans to a big box home supply store, it’s clear that we simply can’t have everything possible for a job in the van. In most cases a trip to the home supply store is simply part of the job. Until we see how much drywall is damaged, how much wood is rotten, the type of tile, the color of grout, the color and style of hinges, etc ….. we simply can’t pre-shop. While we do have an ample supply of screws, nails, caulks, and ‘basic’ materials on the van, space is a limiting factor. There were 4 items on your “to do” list that day and we would happily have made up a shopping list and continued to work while you shopped (if that was your preference), or we’d have happily made that trip and provided you a turnkey solution. Flexibility is part of what we offer. We’re the professionals here, and you’re the customer – so I’ll take responsibility for the communication gap that lead to you believing we’d pre-shop for a job we hadn’t yet seen and didn’t completely understand. Your feedback was a topic at this week’s staff meeting and we’ll leverage it to drive better communication between the CSR and customer, and CSR and the service technician meeting the customer. Thank you for your bringing your concerns to my attention and I’m sorry events didn’t work out the way you had anticipated. Our many positive reviews on Angie’s List stand as testament that your experience isn’t typical and I hope someday that you’ll give us a try and understand that we are capable of delivering quality work and leaving customers thrilled.

Scheduled for 8:30 AM arrival. Tech ran 15 minutes late due to accident holdup on road. Spent some time on paperwork & explanations. Started assemling BoFlex at 9 AM. Took over 3 hours to do! Moved exercise equipment, into place, in downstairs room. Opened Headboard box, discovered crack in headboard, repacked in box for p/u. Put together bed frame with mattress. Bed frame took minimum assembly. Hung pictures in 3 rooms & small bathroom. Tore down moving boxes for disposal. Hung pictures by eyeballing, not by exact measurements. Took too much time doing everything, in my opinion. BoFlex had assembly instruction book. It wasn't completely apart & had all hardware attached for assembly. The movers had not taken it completely apart. I felt 6 hours was excessive and the price of $640.00, too much. I thought the price was $140.00 for the first hour & $88.00 for each hour after. That comes to a Total of $580.00 for 6 hours work, by my calculations. I supplied most of the items needed & was still overcharged by $60.00 for 6 hours work. The estimate was for 3 1/2 hours. He didn't even do everything I asked for, which was included in the original estimate. He didn't hang pictures in 1 other room & bathroom and he didn't assemble the nightsand & bench for the extra bedroom, in the downstairs area. Overall, I wasn't pleased with the whole experience! The Tech is a very pleasant man & I don't have any bad feelings toward him. I don't feel he was as experienced as I was led to believe. If my son had the time, he could have done it in a lot less time, in my opinion, & he doesn't do this type work for a living.
Description of Work: Assembled BoFlex exercise machine. Put up Queen frame & mattress. Moved exercise equipment into place in the room where it was already located. Hung pictures in 3 1/2 rooms. Tore down moving boxes for disposal. Opened Queen Headboard box, found crack in headboard, repacked for pick-up/exchange.

Dear [member name removed]: I’ve logged into Angie’s List today and was sorry to see your feedback. We work very hard to please every customer we visit and we’re always disappointed when customers weren’t thrilled with our work. For the many we deal within the Angie’s List community that may wonder what happened here, I’d like to respond to a few of your points: • While our vans do say ‘On Time, Done Right’ on the side, we were 15 minutes late for your appointment that morning given an accident on I-95 that had things backed up onto I-295. Both the Technician and the Office contacted your prior to the scheduled start time to let you know we’d be running a bit late. Traffic, like the weather, is something we work hard to prepare for, but we simply can’t control it. • We’ve had to do this kind of re-assembly on Murphy Beds, exercise equipment and furniture of every kind after moves and always have the same conversation with customers that was had with you. Movers disassemble for their convenience, not for the convenience of the person putting it back together. While the BoFlex did have instructions, those instructions began at step-one out of the box. Your machine had been partially broken down. While great for the movers, it was not a clean ‘follow the instructions’ assembly. After seeing the state of your machine he gave you his best guess on the time to get it back into working order, but he also told you it was his best guess and explained why. Consider that few will even take on these kinds of projects. We’re happy to help and leave many customers satisfied, but we always have that frank conversation up front that these things take as long as they take. • You were overcharged $60 due to a math error on the Service Technicians part. No excuses, he fat fingered something on the calculator. When you expressed this concern to the office, we asked for 24 hours to collect the ticket (he’d moved on to his next job). I personally picked up your ticket from the Service Technician that evening and called you the next morning to confirm our error, and noted that I’d be sending you a check. You had not presented the half day of service coupon we have posted on Angie’s list, so as a goodwill gesture I added that in and sent you a check for $100. We all want our service providers to be perfect. You learn what they are really all about when there’s an issue. You expressed a concern to the office after the Service Technician had cleared the site. I got personally involved, picked up your invoice, confirmed the error and called you the next day to acknowledge the error and let you know I was sending a check. In the 24 hours we requested to look into the situation you posted this feedback on Angie’s List. I hope our subsequent actions proved we stand behind our work and you see fit to adjust these scores accordingly.

All went smoothly. The Tech and customer worked well together and the jobs got done in a timely fashion. My only "complaint" was that their rates were quite hefty, but, especially when considering ANYTHING having to do with construction "after market", what the heck isn't?
Description of Work: MR. HANDYMAN fixed sundry and varied little things around my house which were too small and TOO varied for just one contractor/construction professional. The tech was prompt, knowledgeable, efficient and neat. MR. HANDYMAN management was also very professional and flexible. They even corrected and refunded an overpayment without my having to rattle their cage!
Description of Work: Paul arrived on time and was very courteous and professional. We discussed my list and he got started. He replaced the dead bolt/door knob on the front door, several outdoor light fixtures, a ceiling fan, window unit A/C, fixed a couple of drawers, and installed a set of blinds.

Mr. Handyman Serving Greater Jacksonville were very professional. They came in on time, communicated really well, and for me being out of state they kept me in the loop about what was going on. I think they are a family run company. They are really professional, there were no extra charges, good service, very accommodating, and they were willing to go take a look at what I needed done. Their prices are fair. I didn't shop around for other companies I went for the convenience factor.

While the representative of Mr. Handyman was pleasant and professional, the $ 250 minimum charge was prohibitive to my mind.
Description of Work: I need someone to install a 'Wall Mount' for my 42" flatscreen TV. This job would require approximately one hour of work to complete. With that in mind, I assume that I could get the job done for $ 150 or less. When I called the Mr. Handyman, they indicated that their minimum charge was $ 250. So, the Mr. Handyman representative suggested that I identify other projects that might require attention. Unfortunately, I did not have any other tasks for them to do. Eventually, I found someone through our church to do the job.

Member – I’m glad you were able to get your needs met. I’d hate to charge you, or anyone, $200+ to install a TV mount, but if you are paying for a 2 hour service call we want to make sure you get full value and thus the suggestion you consider other needs. Unlike you, most callers have a “to do” list and we’re happy to work on multiple items and deliver the most value possible during a service call. Of course, many have us stay longer and simply clear their list. While we’re happy to help with fairly small needs, we do enforce 1-hour and 2-hour service minimums, depending on distance from the office. With travel costs (fuel, drive time for the Technicians) being what they are, we simply can’t offer this service cost effectively in very small increments. So when folks call with a chirping smoke detector needing a battery, when the kids pull down the curtains and curtain rod, when a light bulb needs changing in a cathedral ceiling or somebody needs something hung on a wall as you did, we always coach folks to consider their other needs. Your effective hourly rate goes down with each hour beyond the service minimum, allowing us to deliver greater and greater value the longer we are onsite. This works to most customers advantage, I’m sorry it didn’t work for you.
The company was very accommodating when I had to re-schedule at last minute. The person who came to the house was very professional and courteous. He gave an accurate estimate and came in a little under the estimate.

Kelly was right on time and went over everything we had discussed with their office on the phone. He provided an estimate and we signed off on the work. He worked each job efficiently and professionally. All the work was done to our satisfaction and in probably half the time it would have taken me to do it. He informed us of any items/supplies we would need to pick up and I was able to go to the store to get them while he worked on other parts of the list. No wasted time. They came to us highly recommended by a friend who had used them in the past and we would happily recommend them and use them in the future. Probably not the cheapest handymen in town but you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Replaced outside light fixtures, painted garage door and front door. Re-caulked tub. Replaced kitchen faucet. Replaced light switch/dimmer. Patched drywall and remounted AC thermostat control.
Professionalism should be maintained throughout the engagement or multiple engagements. Paid work hours should be worked completely. Quality is important to the customer and it should be important to the handyman, not an inconvenience. Tools and materials owned or purchased by the customer are not the property of the handyman and should not be used without permission and must be returned if permitted use.
Description of Work: Our services started with interior painting, which was done well and led to additional engagements over a two week span. During that two weeks of bathroom and kitchen remodeling, the performance, professionalism and quality all dropped considerably. At the end, we were very disappointed with the final work done and we will be contacting another service to fix what they did not complete to our satisfaction.
