First of all, they had previously replaced a cracked windshield for me and that job went fine. They handled the insurance paperwork on the phone, showed up within a few days, and I have no complaints about the work done in replacing the windshield. Based on that good experience, I called them again to come out and replace a big sliding glass door on my patio that had one pane shattered. That experience, however, was so unprofessional, it borders on the absurd. The first sign of trouble was when the girl on the phone assured me that my door was a standard size and gave me a quote of about $430 to replace it, but when they came out to do the replacement, it turned out it wasn't a standard size and would require a custom order. The custom sized door would be $550. If I would have known what I was getting into, I would have just called somebody else then, but I had a good experience with them before and had already given them a deposit so I figured it was an honest mistake and stuck with them. I went back to work, but 30 minutes after they left, I get a call from my incensed wife reporting that they had simply dumped the shattered glass from the old door in our back yard. Called the company and read them the riot act. Two hours later a supervisor calls me, apologizing profusely, and said that it was a mistake, the service technician didn't know he had done it, and that he had gone back to the house and cleaned up the mess. He did a fairly good job of damage control, and when I came home that evening, it was cleaned up pretty well, so I cooled off a little. They came back a week later to replace the door with the custom sized door and I take the morning off to be there. After 20 minutes of fidgeting with it, the technician tells me that he doesn't know what happened, but they must have measured wrong and that they have to reorder the custom door. They'll call me when they get the new one in and schedule another install. At this point, I'm realizing my mistake, but I just want the door replaced, so fine, order the new door, I just want this done. Two and a half weeks go by, and I haven't heard from them yet, so I call them to find out where things stand. After a little research the guy at the shop apologizes, says that they've had the new door in for over a week and he doesn't know what happened, but they'll be out the next day to replace it. They'll call me in the morning to let me know when they'll be out. I take the morning off, but of course, they never call, the guy just shows up around 9:30 (good thing I was home). He replaces the door (it fits this time), I take a look and it looks fine. I ask him to put the remainder of the work on a different credit card than they had put the deposit (because I can get double skymiles on this other credit card) and he says sure, goes out to his van, and comes back 5 minutes later with a receipt and a perfunctory apology for "any inconvenience or anything". At this point, I'm just happy to have the door replaced after a month of their bungling. As a parting shot of incompetence, however, I find out that they didn't charge the job to the credit card I asked them to, but to the original card I had put the deposit on. Whatever...good riddance. The best part about it: I went out to their website (http://www.glassdoctor.com) and saw that that they had a "Customer Survey" to tell them how they did. I went to fill it out, but when you click on the link you just get an error. Fitting. These guys are jokers. They'll never get my business again...
