We chose Providence Painting partly because of the quoted price. We had estimates by four other painting companies, and they were all in the same ballpark, though Linda sold her company on integrity and doing the work correctly. She warned that other companies would say one thing and do another. Guess what happened when we chose Providence? We were told that there would be two true coats of paint, not just one spray coat and then a back roll. We were promised two spray coats each with a back roll. The owner was very firm on this when providing the estimate. When I questioned the painters about this after they had finished spraying the first coat, they said, "No, that's just what Linda says that we do, but we don't do that." The owner also guaranteed that the driveway would be pressure washed and the outside would be thoroughly cleaned once finished. This is even stated in the contract. However, the painters left after only finishing one coat on the soffits, fascia and lanai, and the place was left a mess. This is even after we had to call and confirm with the management that the work would be done according to the contract and agreement. The first time my wife called to talk about the concerns, Linda the owner berated her and was so disrespectful that my wife had to ask her to consider her tone and why she was being so rude. The owner evidently felt guilty enough to send an email apologizing for the way she spoke on the phone, recognizing that she was out of line and attributed it to the fact that she has been busy and under stress. We have, of course, kept this email for our records. What a mess! There are places where paint has already peeled and it's been less than a month. There is still scraped paint everywhere from when they had scraped the paint from the soffits and fascias. It is also on the contract that they would paint our front door. This was just not done. When my wife called to speak with Linda about our dissatisfaction, my wife was again verbally accosted and accused of making things up that were still plainly evident and documented. Linda threatened to put a lien on our house, suggesting we were not going to pay our bill. The owner guaranteed that the painters did everything according to the contract even though my wife or I was at the home at all times the painters were present. Do you know how many times the owner or management came to the property to check on things? Never. What I did not appreciate the most is that we were made to feel petty. My wife and I are not petty. We are respected members of this community. My wife has been an RN for the last 15 years, and for myself, I am a tenured professor at a local college. We are not people who were looking to get something for nothing. But we are people who work very hard for the things that we have, and we only expect to get the things that we are told, by contract, that we will receive and that we are paying for.
Description of Work: We recently had our home's exterior painted by this company.

Absolutely incredible! I had a tight deadline to get the house painted before my wife returned from a trip - to surprise her as well as update a very old paint job (about 20 years old). Linda (the owner) rearranged her crews in order to meet my schedule. She helped me pick samples (my wife and I had already chosen the basic color scheme over the past year) and came out in a driving rain and put them up in the covered walkway, discussed my selections, then told me to look for a day or two in different light to make sure the combination I had chosen was the one I wanted. (This all took about an hour, after a half hour of picking the color matches on paper samples.) Prior to painting the door her foreman put up two colors for me to choose there as well. They arrived on the day they said they would and the work was performed over 4 days. The foreman did painting as well and followed up on the last day touching up any missed spots. The first coat was allowed to dry prior to putting on the second coat. This is something to be aware of - some painters just roll on the second coat right after the first, meaning you really only have 1 coat. Linda went over several things to watch for when choosing a painter, not assuming I would choose her company. A second company I contacted drove by while I was away and emailed me a quote, later sending me a hardcopy. The third company came by, walked around and in 15 minutes handed me a quote, said give them a call, and walked away. Providence gave me a 10 year warranty. (The others were 5-7 years.) The paint job looks fantastic, and everyone who has seen the house or pictures of it think it looks incredible. When she came for payment (a week later), she was disappointed to find out her price had been the highest. (Not by much.) But the paint she used was the best, her timing no one else could meet - and that was one of the most important criteria. Her company was highly rated on another website. All of the workers were approachable and friendly. Whenever I had a question they would show me what they were doing and told me not to worry. I let them borrow a couple of ladders and an extension cord as they were juggling several jobs to get mine in, which they handled well. Attention to detail, friendliness, considerate and courteous behavior, everyone in the company exhibited the same qualities as the owner.
