UPDATED March 2013: Curtis came and reviewed my new choice of property, was very professional and told me that moving my home choice from the earlier choice to this one would be no problem (see below). He took full control of all of the details and permitting, started as soon as possible and worked double time to try and meet a short timeline for my move in date. His company performed very well under very stressful circumstances, not the least was a piece of property that seemed to be hip deep in mud almost every day. He paid attention to all the details, using screws on decking, checking for bad joints, just handled everything very well. He built it in about 3.5 months from start to finish, walls were finished beautifully, windows, custom corners & custom cabinets were all better than expected. He went above and beyond to meet requests if at all possible. Everything worked from the git go, and the only real warranty type issues I had were cosmetic, and they were taken care of upon request. My home was done well from the ground up, it feels sturdy, I trusted the contractors he worked with and could not have asked for a better builder. He stepped me through the process because he knew I had never done it before. He was patient and offered valuable suggestions as to how to hand different issues. Made suggestion that guided me away from some questionable choices and indulged my requests for items that were hard to come by, such as my tile choice. He upgraded the master shower stall because he knew it would be a choice I would make and it made the master bathroom look so much better. Recommeded great places to get items that I wanted to personally upgrade such as shower doors and washer/dryer. He fought for my appliance choices even when they were harder to come by and overall did everything to do this job to my expectation and then some. After a rough first go 'round Curtis went above and beyond to make my new home beautiful, comfortable and strong. I would definitely recommend him for further opprtunities, and if I had need of a second home I would not hesitat to ask that he be my builder. Original Review: I signed a contract with CJ Piper Builders to build me what would have been a beautiful home in JA Meyers developement Tall Grass just east of Abbottstown, PA. We signed the initial contract in March and I gave them my initial payment. I had chosen a very specific property in the developement for my home. Because there were two builders in the developement, I was told I had to communicate to JA Meyers that I had decided to go with CJ Piper which I did immediately. Because we had a signed contract, this meant to me that I had also contracted for the property and that it should have been locked in or secured from the developer JA Meyers. After this, on more than one occassion, I was approached by JA Meyers sales rep and asked about whether I was going to be building? On all occassions I told them imfatically, yes, absolutely. And they knew exactly what piece of property I was building on.Finally after working out all of the details for my home, color choices, room sizes and custom cabinetry etc...we finalized everything and I was told we would be permitting the next week. We had a slight issue with 2 foot overhang on the setback and I gave them a couple of options to correct this issue. That was 0ver 10 days ago. I thought it was strange that I had not heard from CJ Pipers rep that I had been working with as the company had stayed in communication at all times during the process. While at times getting accurate and detailed information from them on items I wanted to customize was difficult and frustrating, eventually we worked everything out.I met all deadlines set for me, paid all monies as expected and was extremely excited to start getting my dream home built. BUT what actually happened was (is) a nightmare. I received a phone call from my realestate agent on Thursday that said that I should not respond to any messages or calls about my home until he talked with me. He didn't have to worry, as I had rec'd no communications from them since my final choices signing. Come to find out (but not through my builder, CJ Piper) that JA Meyers the developer, sold the property out from under me. I guess CJ Piper never secured the property.after I signed the contract(but haven't been told this for sure from CJ Piper), and while that was a major mistake that cost me many hours, dollars, frutration and the fact that I have to start all over. JA Meyers is also at fault, using extremely questionalbe tactics to sell the property out from under a person that they knew was going forward with plans for building on it. Why they didn't tell CJ Pipers (Maybe they did, I haven't heard for sure) or even myself (they had my number because their agen had worked with me) that they were getting pressure or that there was a drop dead date to get things started or they would sell ti to some one else I have no idea. They just did it without knowledge or communication. And CJ Piper compounded the issue by not communicating with me to this day. They never spoke to me about options or attempts to work things out or even apologize. They were not even in communication with my agent until he started asking questions about rumors and odd phone calls and tried to find out what was going on. I have been the primary contact through this whole operation. My agent was just along for moral support and assistance if I had questions so I would have no other expectation than to hear from them personally.I left messages for both the rep I was working with and the owners letting them know that I had heard rumor that my deal had fallen through and that I was disappointed that they had not communicated with me about the situation. I have now also told them that I will be seeking possible legal recourse for CJ Pipers failure to comply with our contract. But ultimately I am angry and sad at the loss of my house because I trusted both companies to be professional, honest and upfront. I came from a big city out west and moved to a small town and looked forward to the more small town honesty and being treated as a person, treated with integrity, honesty and not like the scam artists and shisters that tend to gather around the big cities. Guess they come in all communities.
