They told us we would be out of our house for about four months and it turned into 18 months. It was a nightmare. We wound up having to fire them and had to have the work redone because the walls were crooked and doors were hung where you could not even shut the doors. It was horrendous. It was over $200,000 and then we had to pay to have the work redone. I do not take any stock in the Better Business Bureau because the Better Business Bureau backed them up 100-percent. I grade them F-minus overall. They are so bad that our insurance company refuses to do business with them. Our house is almost 4,000 square feet. When they had people in here working on our house, they only had two workers in here. I would tell people to run, stay away from them.
Description of Work: We had a house fire and we contracted Bay Area DKI/Disaster Kleanup to restore our house.

We are in mid-contract right now so I can't rate them altogether fairly yet. I must say it's taking a long time to do the repairs however they were at the house within 1 hour of my call.. Don't know if I'd use them again.
Description of Work: I found flooding.

As the repairs began to put this home back together, miss measurements, miss communications, numerous unreturned phone calls, numerous unanswered emails and just not listening to our requests began, starting with Jason Spicola; Project Manager and Rob Kelly Construction, site manager. Main structural support beams that had rotted from the bottom plate were being scabbed in and painted over instead of being replaced. Floor boards that were rotted were just painted over instead of being replaced. (We fixed these.) When a different beam was replaced by DKI, they pinched off an electrical wire and after numerous reminders, DKI dry walled it in, without repairing it along with a live wire behind the wall in the kitchen that has not been addressed either which both are a fire hazard. | We decided that since all this work was being completed to make the home water tight, that we would purchase new windows for the home because the old windows had been bent and broken when they were removed. The contractor, Rob Kelly, pulled the measurements for all of the windows and was given 2 lists with window prices from Marathon Mobile Home Store. One list was a list of discontinued windows and the other, a list of the new supplier, slightly higher in price. Rob Kelly placed the order for the windows and we went the next day to pay for them. The shop questioned the size of the three living room windows 36" length and had us call Rob Kelly to verify the measurements, as the requested length of 36" was odd and that all of the other windows were at 40" in length. When the size was verified by Rob Kelly Construction, the special order was placed. The 3 living room windows had to be ordered from the more expensive list because the discount list did not have 36" length windows, when in fact the length was 40". Once the windows arrived, they has to be shimmed up 4 ¾ inches to fit, even though if measured correctly, the proper window size would have been available. Now the shutters that hung previously, will not fit these three miss measured windows. | | We were running out of funds to continue staying at the hotel and numerous requests to BayArea DKI were made to complete the master bedroom so we could return to the home. No rush was initiated to complete anything. We went in and installed the insulation and stapled insulation on every single wall except one, to try and expedite the job and motivate BayArea DKI, and were unsuccessful. With our backs against the wall and on the verge of being homeless, we purchased the materials needed to make the master bedroom livable, such as drywall compound, tape, primer, paint, trim, carpet padding, and carpeting, as well as flooring, trim and paint for the master bedroom closet. This room was completed in twenty four hours by us causing us to question what was taking DKI so long to complete a 900 square foot home. | | When it came to the kitchen design, we had a 3-D design walk-through program on our computer for the exact specs of the entire home as well as the kitchen such as cabinets, counters, colors and measurements, that we shared with the Rob Kelly and Jason Spicola. DKI never gave us anything in writing, showing color choices or design of anything. Everything was verbalized. The upper cabinets had to be re-cut because the ventilation fan above the stove was never measured. The contractor forgot to include the dishwasher in the plan and quickly moved it to the other side of the kitchen sink, causing it to open directly in front of the sink, making the sink unreachable and the opening too narrow for the dishwasher to even fit. Once hardware would be attached, the dishwasher would not even open This was never brought to our attention before installation that this would be an issue. We never saw the design from the construction company nor did we sign the original flawed design. Kitchen cabinets were ordered that we specifically asked DKI and Rob Kelly Construction not to order and they were even placed on the walls after specifically asking that they not to install them, but they were glued and screwed to the wall making removal a costly endeavor. We were told by Jason Spicola to just throw them away, that he paid for them and it would not change his bottom dollar anyway. To make matters even worse, the Cabinets were three different colors, being dark chocolate on the outside, White on the inside of the doors and natural wood on the inside of the cabinets. No cabinets that we have ever seen, come that way. The inside of the doors always matches either the outside of the doors or the inside of the cabinets, making them only two colors. The cabinets came unwrapped in the back of a pickup truck causing damages to the laminate before even being placed in our home. Some of the places on the doors, the laminate did not even completely cover the whole door which were supposedly custom made cabinets. The counter top came to our home with the laminate peeling on both sides as well as being unprotected and after it was put into place, white caulk was used on a tan counter top. When we became aware of the design and product errors, we were indeed angry and upset and contacted Jason Spicola to tell him about the errors that had been made. We were told that we had agreed to this design which we did not or we would not had been so upset. Heated arguments ensued between the Jason Spicola and ourselves about who was right and who was wrong when it was a simple resolve, offer to make it right, instead Jason Spicola and Rob Kelly's demeanor became very aggressive, argumentative and intimidating. Through several emails, which the we have kept, Jason Spicola stated that he would fix the errors to the kitchen if we installed the flooring that he had already purchased. We didn't feel that this was right to have to place the flooring just to get BayArea DKI to fix the errors that DKI had made, but we were made to feel as if we had no other choice but to install the flooring so that DKI would fix their errors to the kitchen design flaw. We have installed all flooring in the home to date. We were told, that DKI does what is requested by the owner. They just fail to say that their design would not work. We were never given a choice. We never saw the design of Rob Kelly Construction, nor did we sign the original flawed design or gave a signed approval for colors of paint, or siding etc, which Jason Spicola said was required by DKI prior to ordering and installing anything. | I also want to state that a poor job was done on the siding as well. Because they did not fully nail sheathing to the frame, causing the whole one side of siding to be noticeably wavy. This also caused the drywall inside to be wavy as well. | So what started out as an apparent 4 week project, on a 900 square foot home, has turned into an unending nightmare for us, now on day 80+ days and it is a constant fight to get things done properly, timely and professionally. The company is now demanding the entire amount of money estimated and are not wanting to show a break down in the billing for the company's work or credits for the work that we completed and DKI is unwilling to adjust the total amount due expecting payment for work they did not complete. | In closing, Jason Spicola gave Bruce the ultimatum, to lay the floors in the living room, kitchen and both hallways if we want the kitchen done properly and correctly. |As Full time Employees, Full TIme Nursing Students and consumers / customers going through a very trying time with our home, we should not have been put through all of the things that I have shared with you about Bay Area DKI | I am sending this to you to make you aware of the multiple issues we have had to deal with concerning BayArea DKI and Rob Kelly Construction. We do have A LOT of pictures showing errors and flaws if you would like to see them. | |Thank You for Your Time. |Bruce & Karen Hall |9355 Eden Drive |Tampa, Florida 33610 |813-330-5836 | | |Is there anyone that can help just please we beg to make this right... burnt out, worn out amd mentally, physically drained, God help us, please...
Description of Work: just because the BBB has a good rating for a business doesn't mean they do good work, check rip off report as well as other websites. Please people, you must Must Must use contractors that freinds have used and are happy with. Never trust a preferred contractor from your insurance company. Six months after our remodel job, we still don't have a kitchen. I have been in construction all my life, I watched this company like a hawk while on the job. Still this wasn't enough. I worked two full time jobs, wife worked full time in the medical field, I also labored on the side, we also were in full time nursing school as well. We did most of the work ourselves. so without any more blah blah, here is our story. | To American Integrity Insurance Company, just because the BBB has a good rating for a business doesn't mean they do good work, check rip off report as well as other websites. | To American Integrity Insurance Company, | |(BayArea DKI ) was hired and the contract signed with Andreas Asp of BayArea DKI, to begin repairs with a 4 week finish date | Scrubbers and humidifiers were not placed for 5 days after signing the contract. These scrubbers ran for almost two weeks while the process of tearing out all saturated dry wall began with a crew containing two workers. Along with the drywall being torn out, the siding, and insulation came off as well. There was no sheathing. The home was taken down to the studs inside and out. The home never had been equipped with a vapor barrier so it would be the responsibility of the us to supply this new vapor barrier that was to be placed during reconstruction. We were to be contacted by DKI as to when vapor barrier was needed for installation and never was contacted. BayArea DKI purchased the tyvek and we were never asked to purchase the product as agreed. We removed appliances, Window coverings and tore out the drywall to prep rebuild in the master bedroom. The crew of two workers only worked approximately 6 hours a day for two, maybe three days of the week. There was only one day that there were more than two workers on site and that was when the siding was being torn off ,that day there were five. One day upon arriving to the home to see what had been accomplished, one of the workers was observed loading the scrap tin that was removed from our home, into their personal pickup truck to take to the scrap metal company without the owners knowledge or permission and was asked to return it to the property of the owner because we wanted every cent to go back into the home. Jason Spicola was made aware of this but we were ignored. Then came the billing for the remediation which is not even close to what was actually done to the home. We are being billed the estimated amount, not an adjusted amount. We are being billed for rooms that were never touched, and rooms that are not even rooms. We went over the estimate line by line and made a sheet detailing what had and had not been done to the home during the mold removal process showing the over billing and sent this over to Andreas Asp. Bay Area DKI was asked to send us a breakdown of billing to verify that the estimated amount was equivalent to the billed amount, but to date, DKI has failed to do so after numerous requests.

Very well - Shortly after calling our insurance agent about the water damage - they transferred us to DKI for mitigation. DKI came immediately and presented themselves with the services they provide and explained the entire process and what, if any, out-of-pocket expenses we may incur since this was an insurance claim related visit. I had a similar situation with ServePro a couple of years ago and the opposite occurred. They simply came in and said if I don't sign the paperwork that the work would not be done. To me this was a way out of any litigation if the work was not done properly. There was no explanation of the work being done.

I'm in litigation with this company now.
Description of Work: I hired them to rebuild my home after a fire. The mortgage company wouldn't give them another draw until the house was 33% done. They wanted to draw when the roof was inspected, and they claimed it was, but it had actually not been inspected.
