They told me they were on Angie?s List. I paid them some money upfront. They never let me know when they were coming, and then would often only stay for a few hours. I never knew when to expect them. What work they DID do was done very quickly, and they never worked a full day. Some walls were poorly done and never corrected, they damaged a window and tore a screen. The job was never completed. Everything that was done was so bad that we refused to pay them the final amount at first, but then I agreed to pay them the last amount in good faith because they said they warranty their work. They said they would come back to correct problems and finish the job. They stopped returning my calls and would not contact me, so I cancelled my last payment with my credit card.
Description of Work: I hired them to remodel a bathroom and tear out a closet in a bedroom.

CAUTION. DO NOT HIRE. Working diligently to recoup a portion of extreme monetary loss. Not only do we have to hire contractors to correct and to complete contracted work, but we have to purchase, again, supplies needed to do so. This company was paid funds to purchase necessary supplies included in contracts. Only skills at required level - framing, drywall and general carpentry. A few of the issues: Departed with large percentage of work incomplete. Disorganized and inefficient. Did not purchase supplies necessary to complete work and leave them on premises. Displayed barely amateur level of painting and knowledge of supplies needed to successfully complete painting projects. My opinion is that the company personnel do not seriously regard contracts nor do they take any pride in their work. Sloppy work - painting is horrible in and outside of house. Sprayed doors in driveway - need to use graffiti remover to remove stains. Deliberately "slopped" paint on an entry door to pool area. Have already spent hours on hands and knees trying to remove paint, texture "plaster" and construction adhesive from carpeting, tile and grout. This has required literally cutting paint out of carpeting, using bottles and bottles of latex paint and adhesive remover, scraping - with a razor blade - paint from other surfaces. The originally spotless carpeting was left in horrible condition. We even had to purchase a commercial grade carpet shampooer. There is no need to continue. This was a horrible, devastating, destructive, shocking, costly and eye opening experience. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Do not be "taken.". Before and after photos are available.
Description of Work: We contracted this company to renovate a home we recently purchased. Contracted services included: painting indoor and out, resurfacing and finishing pool deck, framing and drywall, hanging paneling, power washing, hanging garage storage units, texturing, removing cabinetry, framing doorways, hanging doors and associated services. We originally contacted Mrs. Robinson and her company to design and remodel kitchen and baths. No contract was signed for these services after considering quality of other work in progress. The house was left in a condition that is completely shocking. It is impossible for us to live in. It is difficult to merely step foot into this house. Furthermore, seeing this house as our home is extremely difficult and upsetting. All but $1000.00 was paid to company prior to its departure.

We got them on Angie's List and they were very good. The service went excellent. The quality was all good, it was excellent. They were very professional, they came, they ordered the parts, they came in a timely manner and they did it all right. They replaced two cabinet doors that people told us we would never be able to replace. They found them somewhere. They took the microwave that was over our counter, and they installed it over our cook top. It was a pretty big deal and it cost just a couple hundred Dollars. The quality was very good, it was excellent.

It was a husband and wife that showed up for the job. They did not have all the right equipment and had to get the right hose at home dept. The wife talked a lot and it took them a long time to do the job. I wanted them to do some other jobs but knew that was not going to happen because it took the entire time of the deal to complete the dishwasher. They were not very efficient.

There were no troubles with scheduling and no additional costs. The cost was great for the amount of work that was done. He was very responsive and willing to accommodate my scheduling. He was able to complete the work even when I was not home. It was nice to come home and see all of the work complete and the areas cleaned. It was great! My experience with them was amazing!

They set it up. I wasn't there that day and expected someone else to handle the details. The tent was anchored with tap cons on my newly pour patio which I wasn't happy about. They were supposed to use an anchor system which didn't involve drilling in to the concrete. Once again, I wasn't there to supervise so I can't hold them accountable for the mistake. I would hire them again as they did do a good job with what they accomplished.

It went all right. The service was fine. They showed up on time. The lady made a couple of unwanted solicitations for work for our house but she completed the deal. Thank you for your rating 8 months after the fact... I am confused as to the Professionalism rating as a "C" with all others received an "A"... Are you considering my professionalism low because I found other problems at your residence and pointed them out to you? If so, I would give that an "A". Now if I pushed additional work on you that was not needed, then I could understand. Thanks anyways

L&D Renovations completely remodeled our upstairs bath. They removed the existing ugly tiles(wall and floor), removed the tub, relocated the drain and installed clear glass shower doors. It took all most a month but we were not in a schedule crunch we were pleased with work. .....Donnaugh is very competant and thorough.....my only criticism is that she has a very full schedule and sometimes forgets to communicate with changes(she is very busy)..My wife and I gave Donnagh our trust to do the job right and we were not disappointed.

Really [member name removed]. This deal was for a driveway, however, you BEGGED us to pressure wash the pool deck THAT DAY because your promised your WIFE that you would have it done before her outside "PARTY" which you did not... I truly dislike liars like you. You can't do this **** by yourself and when you hire a professional who does a great job, you still complain. Maybe if you cleaned the deck more often, the mold wouldn't build up so heavy and thick that when the pressure removes the mold, it also removes the paint... For any Member ready these, please contact us directly if you would like before and after pictures of this project or others...

I apologize for the inconvenience that Angie's List has put you through, but Angie Hicks is all about MONEY, MONEY & MORE MONEY... In reading your review, it looks like it was directed towards Angie's List and L&D Renovations for not refunding your money, however your review DOES go against our rating which I do not believe we deserve. On April 8, 2014, I emailed you through the message center and explained that we do not accept payments directly and that you would have to call them yourself (according to their "Help Desk"), but as of today, I still do not see that you were refunded. Their EXACT WORDS were; "We will NEVER reach out to a Member and offer a refund but they can call in and request a refund". Again, Angie's List is all about MONEY MONEY & MORE MONEY... It looks like if a Member never makes that call, money will never be refunded even at the Service Provider's request. My hands are TIED. I spoke to my sales "Big Deal" Rep on April 8, 2014 at 3:04pm (according to AT&T) and he said that his hands are also tied. Angie's List WILL NOT permit him to speak to any Members directly, however he DID forward the information to the help desk as per my request. So in short, this request has been sitting at Angie's List's Help Desk since Arpil 8, 2014, money in their bank, collecting interest, while you are out of pocket and L&D Renovations has to receive yet another bad review due to the lack of incompetence within Angie's List Help Desk. This is not the first time that L&D Renovations has received a "BAD" review because Angie's List "help Desk" Employees have NOT done their job... THANKS ANGIE HICKS - Hope you are still laughing all the way to the bank!

While they did an excellent job answering phone calls and emails and were on-time it didn’t go as well as I had hoped for. There were areas she didn’t dust. Generally, it seemed like an issue with inexperience. I had to tell her what to do. She did not have a vacuum cleaner with her and I was not told they wouldn't be bringing a vacuum cleaner and mine wasn't working at the time. I really wish they had let me know they would not be providing a vacuum. I did ask that the windows be washed and when I opened the living room window this weekend it looked like it had been cleaned with a dirty rag. Most of the problems were discovered after she left. I expected a more detailed house cleaning.

Donnaugh and crew showed up on time and did a wonderful job! I have used them before for various repairs around the house and they are always punctual and do a wonderful job. I really appreciated the way that they kept in contact with me. For example, one day they were running a bit behind, and called/texted to let me know what was going on. I find that very commendable and unfortunately, you don't get that kind of service very often. That is one of the many reasons I keep calling on them when I have something that needs repaired around the house. Don't hesitate to give them a call! They will be honest with you and do the job to your satisfaction.

PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE NOT LICENSED CONTRACTORS!! They have a business license and nothing else that would qualify them to do work on load bearing walls, such as in my bathroom. I have discovered this after the fact, doing a lot of checking because something is just not right about this crew. Check State of Florida's website on when you need a licensed contractor. I put way too much trust in the Angie's List A rating and I got burned. The project dragged on for two months. Ultimately, I decided not to let her back in the house to work (reasons to be explained below) and we negotiated a price and I paid it. For the amount I paid-I should have gotten everything I wanted but I didn't and I was convinced that letting them work on the bathroom-which would have taken several more hours if not another day, would have resulted in more headaches and potentially damaged property for me. Overall Grade: D Reasons to be laid out below but generally, took way too long, no workmanship, no professionalism and lacked competency. Also, trust issues developed which could not be ignored. They left me with damaged property. The subs she used left much to be desired. I could tell she didn't know some of these people at all and that made me very uneasy-a couple looked like they came from Labor Pool. This remodel was not cheap. For the amount they charged, I should have gotten a better result. Lastly, if Donnagh suggests her plumber/friend to you for additional work you need on your home, run for the hills. Wish I had. Price: Company charges a price that suggests quality and workmanship, also Donnagh, the D in L & D, talks a good game. However they didn't deliver what they promised and I paid too much. The bill was run up by Donnagh and I called her on it. She removed some of the charges and reduced others. Example-quoted $160 to patch holes in drywall, did half the job and charged $230. Charge reduced. Added in two "extra work on window" charges which is laughable because no one touched that window for almost two months! They were remodeled Quality-Paint job was terrible-in some places painted the underside of the crown molding, which is uneven and appears as a different color when lights are turned on. Splattered paint on plumbing, door frame. For some reason have white paint smeared on wall. Bottom line is painter (who I think was 95% Donnagh) with an unsteady hand should tape off the area to be painted. Also walls need a second coat-you can see the primer she used. Holes in grout in bathroom tile-pointed out to Donnagh who asked me to use a pencil to mark them. I did and she still missed two. While doing drywall patch in the closet in my son's room, inexplicably smeared quite a bit of plaster on my son's custom shelves. I asked her to remove it-she removed the smears on the right side but not the left. Also, on the right side she left the mess she was supposed to clean up, now in a pile of white powder. This was after I had sent her an email complaining of the way she treated my house while inside it and what I saw as a failure to protect my property. Fell on deaf ears. Installed wood ledge in the bathroom and painted it without finishing the wood. Who does this?? My brother told me that even a kid in a high school shop class knows you finish your wood before you install it. The first ledge that was installed had to be taken out because it was so poorly installed-didn't go flush to the wall and was caulked in with a lot of caulk. Donnagh tried to convince me that the work was just fine but I refused it. Created a window opening for my bathroom window which was being made smaller-and then could not properly measure the space for a window. The first window which she bought for the remodel was 25 1/2 inches tall which I expressly told her prior to her starting the job that we wanted to make the window smaller. She even measured the window in my master bath which was the perfect size I had in mind. However, when I refused the window she brought-she first tried to tell me that she had checked everywhere, talked to everyone she knew, and no one was selling a window any smaller than what she bought. Logistically this cannot be true and its a terrible overstatement. If you can't find the window anywhere, order it!! She then consulted her husband, the L in L & D and she said not to worry-they would install it sideways for now, for security's sake, and she would order me a window in the new dimensions which she said was 24x18. She then came back next work day and told me that no one makes a window in that size and we needed to figure something out....she also offered to install it sideways and that there was no problem with that. (by the way we checked what she was saying and were told absolutely terrible idea to install a vertical window sideways because they are weighted and would never open right). I still said no to the window. Clearly what she was trying to do was get back on schedule without having to do the work of a contractor. More overstatements. I followed up with Home Depot immediately and they told me that absolutely I could get a window that opens in the size of 24x18 (it would be a sliding window) and furthermore it would take about 10 days. I called Donnagh and explained all and her response was that she would go to Lowe's and let them tell her in person that they could not get a window in those dimensions. Bottom line, she ordered a window from Lowes and it was the wrong window (she blamed Lowes), she then ordered a third window and it didn't fit (she blamed me although she ordered the window!!) and then ordered a fourth window and it didn't fit (said "I guess NO ONE CAN DO THIS!"). She came up with a plan to build it in and I went along with it and am okay with it-I think it looks fine. Bottom line-if you create a custom window opening for your client-you need to be d*** sure you can properly order a window to fill that custom space. Waiting for the windows to come in was what took so long. Installed wall cabinet with screws showing at the bottom-where everyone can see them instead of putting them behind the doors. Ridiculous and another loss I sustained. Responsiveness: Reason for this low grade is the amount of time it took to get the project to where it was and the door was never finished. She is pretty good about responding if you call or email-however she doesn't listen. This is why the low grade. We should never have had the problem with our window-her excuse was she thought we wanted a window that opened vertically-we never said the window had to open vertically-besides that I had created a window order with Home Depot-and had asked her to review it-had she done so it would have been spelled out for her. A second time I went and created a window order with home depot and asked her to review it (this was in response to her telling me NO ONE makes the window size you need-Home depot composed an order in about 10 minutes-the first time they did it it was over the phone). She did place the order but the window was all wrong when it came in-she blamed me-said "you had to have this window" ??? Clearly she either didn't review the order for accuracy in measurements/style, or she doesn't know better? Punctuality-Had no issues here. Professionalism: Totally lacking. I have already mentioned things that bothered me that would contribute to the low rating. Here's what I haven't mentioned: they don't have much stuff. They lack tools and they have to run out a lot to get stuff to continue the job. The first week they were here Donnagh went in my fridge and got a drink . I didn't make an issue of it but I had not given permission for that. Then, she helped herself to the cleaning supplies in my garage to do clean up. She went under my sink to get cleaner (for the tile?). Honestly I wouldn't have used Lysol on the marble tile-but I noticed it when it was on the tail end of happening. They also used a wastebasket from my garage as a mop bucket. They used my paper towels and old towels to clean up. They needed my dustpans. They had no fans to blow fumes/dust out of the bathroom. She asked me for a fan and I let her use one. Later when I went in the bathroom I saw she had strung my pricey desk fan upside down and it was all covered with dust. When I complained she said "I'll blow it out". Um, yeah, well she never did and its ruined-and I checked online and its selling for $67. at Walmart. I didn't pay that but I'm quite sure it was over $40. I saw her grab the door mat from the inside of my house and put it under the wall in my bedroom where she was finishing drywall to catch the dust!!! Tools on my furniture, building materials on my furniture and floor (such as plaster, grout) with nothing protecting underneath. I am convinced they have nothing at this time-no broom, no dustpan, no pails, no nails (found her in garage eyeing my utility shelves-when I asked what she was doing-she asked if I had nails), no drop cloths, no rags!! In closing-I regret hiring this contractor. I lost money on this. I have a beautiful $600 tub that got scratched during this project. I found it the evening after she had been there with two window installers. She went into my garage and grabbed a dirty piece of cardboard and threw it in the tub-then they all got in there to look closer at the window. No doubt in my mind that is when it happened-but have to let it go since I can't prove it. Seeing how everything else went-no doubt they damaged my tub. The tile was nicely done (by a sub). There is so much more I could mention but I'm about out of room. ****Changed professionalism grade to F due to the lies in the Response from Service Provider. She knows the truth and I know the truth. enough said.....
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel: Took out larger window and put in smaller window in small bathroom. In same room, gutted tile on floor and shower surround and replaced with new tile. New tub installed. Painted. Tore down chair rail and ledge and put up new ones. Did some drywall patching in home. Door needed weatherstripping and doorsweep replaced. Doorsweep neither installed nor provided although it was in contract and job drug on for two months.

Response from L&D Renovations LLC
WE ARE FULLY LICENSED AND INSURED FOR THE PROJECTS THAT WE HAVE WORKED ON. IF IT REQUIRES A STATE CERTIFIED & LICENSED PERSON, THEN I BRING ONE IN… ALL LICENSES; INSURANCE & CERIFICATIONS ARE UP TO DATE AND AVAILABLE FOR ANY MEMBER UPON REQUEST… First I would like to apologize to any Member that is reading this review. I feel that I need to address this Member’s OUTRIGHT SLANDEROUS & MISAPPROPRIATE review. I will reply to each as written by this Member. For this Member and her husband, being Police Officers they should know the laws of this county and State… We did nothing to any load-bearing wall except to remove mold and replace a window. At no time, was the original header modified. Bathroom remodel: This Member requested that we remove an existing large bathroom window and replace it with a smaller window because she felt that men were watching her shower. No size was specified so we purchased a smaller stock window from Lowe’s. This window was installed, the bathroom had already been gutted and the existing window removed. The Member requested that we turn the window sideways because it looked too skinny. We have now completed the tub-hop tile (4 days later-marble) and that is when the Member told us that her husband did not like that window and that we needed to get one that matched her master bathroom window. After many unsuccessful calls to manufacturers, we made the decision to purchase the same dimensions, however a better quality. In short, Lowe’s screwed up and wasted 2 weeks of time. The Member then went to Home Depot and placed an order with them. Since it was our responsibility to purchase, we did so as per the specs that the Member provided Home Depot. Another 2 weeks wasted – incorrect window. I then went back to Lowe’s, reordered and this time- window; correct. Now we can complete the window tile & grout. After refusing us backing her house to complete as per the contract, she DEMANDED another refund (explained below) so we had no alternative but to accept her last payment because we were afraid that she wasn’t going pay the balance. She already sucked our company for $500+ as well as our Plumber for $500. As for getting what you wanted, this became a joke within our Subs daily because when this Member would change something it always had to be because “her sister said so because that’s what her sister wanted or better yet, my sister is an interior decorator” Everything was the “sister” and more funny than that, her “sister” didn’t even live there. There was no damage to any part of her property in fact; every time we left her house it was in a cleaner condition than when we met it. Overall Grade: D In regards to my subs, all of them are fully licensed, insured and some are even bonded. This is so typical of a Cop. Profiling people when they don’t know the situation. Maybe they don’t dress to your standards or speak proper English, but they are Humans and they deserve to be treated as such. As for my Plumber, he is a Stated Certified Plumber that has been in the business for over 35 years. No complaints from any other of the HUNDREDS of jobs that he has done for my Customers. Price: Donnagh does talk a GOOD game because Donnagh has over 25 years of experience in residential renovations. Many Customers/Members will vouch that I DO NOT accept a project if my company is not capable or licensed to do. When they ask about plumbing, electrical etc., I ALWAYS state that I will have to bring in that certain State-Certified person. As our motto states, we deliver; professionalism, integrity, honesty and fairness. We always tell a Customer/Member before we leave on our last day, “please call us if you have any problems or concerns”. Some calls us and some right reviews like this. We have always offered a 1 year warranty on our labor… This Member was actually quoted $250.00 for the drywall texture & paint to match, however, she said she would texture and paint so it was knocked down to $100.00. She was quoted for Tile and she upgraded to Marble. ($4.50 per sq. ft. - $10.95 per sq. ft. plus additional labor) She was quoted for a “standard” bathtub and purchased an oversized one. (Additional parts and labor for Plumber) As for the bathroom paint, this was an add-on. We requested Valspar and she brought in Behr. (Applied 3 coats -apples to oranges) Grout: That is correct, but we were going to re-grout on our last trip but we were not given the chance. Drywall mess: Again, not given a chance to correct. Wood ledge: Because of the mold that we found, I made the decision to purchase PVC shelving. Now while installing it, my Husband, Leo, L of L&D found that the 2 walls were not plum (surprise – Florida) so Leo did his best and caulked in only an 1/8” gap, however her “sister” didn’t like it so we had to tear it out and start again but this time with blonde wood. (Add’t cost) Her husband approved it but the complaint now came from her “brother”. Window Problems: Explained above – Window size was actually 19” x 26”. Installed wall cabinet with screws: Where would I have put them; all at the top of the cabinet with none on the bottom? Really? Responsiveness: Door was realigned; Weather stripping installed but did not let us complete the installation of the door sweep. Comment about she doesn't know better?: I do know what’s best especially with County & State laws, codes and regulations, but when it comes to people such as yourself who think they know it all but instead, “do not know their head from a hole in the ground”, it makes it very difficult. Professionalism: Lack of tools: We carry over $9,000.00 in tools. Several trips to the store: Several changes and dislikes from the “sister” Donnagh/Fridge: YOU ARE A FRIGGIN LIAR! You came home one day and I asked you if I could grab a bottle of water from the case in the “HOT” garage and YOU were the one that offered my daughter and me a drink. You also told us that your husband puts the bottled water in the bottom drawer of the fridge and that we could help ourselves. (I did help myself to ONE piece of candy from the candy jar) Garage Clean-up Supplies: A part of our team cleans houses and we are always carrying cleaning supplies and rags with us, Lysol to boot! Lysol was only used on the bathtub interior & the marble cleaner was purchased at Lowe’s to clean the floor. Wastebasket – Aha! We did clean up! They needed my dustpans: Aha! Again, we cleaned up and because they have NEW cherry wood floors, we preferred to use theirs instead of our metal one. Fan: Was credited on her invoice, and she still has the fan. Drop clothes and/or booties were used daily. In Closing: We regret accepting this project. We lost money on this one! I have “before and after” pictures. If a Member would like to see them, please do not hesitate to contact us with that request. As to the bathtub, I guarantee that it did not come from L&D Renovations or their Subs. The cardboard that was used to cover the floor and the new tub (Taking care and pride in our work) was the template from the bathtub and the boxes from the tile. With a young boy and lots of toys, one would never know. Additional Questions Answered: Higher than estimate: (Upgraded to Marble; Changes and additions) Schedule the work? 1-2 weeks – (7 days) Contractor? Willing to stay till job was done-but I decided to end the job-things had just gone too poorly. (Too much of sister’s 2 cents: Too many changes and additions) Lack of professionalism-lack of quality!! (A False Statement –Check out the rest of our reviews. There are some people that NO ONE can please. Words of advice? Writing Down & Extra Billing: (Customer’s approval of Proposal; Invoice states, “any add’t costs will be due upon completion; Upgrade to Marble; Changes and add-ons) I've got to get going. I've got a bathroom to finish: Don’t forget to call your sister. Attached pictures: Over all pic – Not complete; still waiting for window Exposed Screws: Cheap Cabinet; fall off wall; My Insurance Splinters – Just installed; At Lunch; not sanded, caulked-in or painted Drywall Mess: Easier to remove off cheap furniture when dried Taped Off – 3 Paint Pics: Painted walls first: Had not painted trim yet as the walls needed to dry first Fan: Offered to clean & I was refused and still provided a credit and they have the fan Now, MY COMPLAINT WITH ANGIE”S LIST. They do not care about their Service Providers as they claim. It is 100% Members. After we receive a review, we are only permitted to write our side of the story. There is nowhere available for us to provide PROOF such as “before and after” pics or Members satisfaction of project in their own hand writing on our invoices, etc. Angie, you need to show a little more fairness to the Service Providers, because without us, there would be no YOU!
