A-1 Quality Cooling & Heating

Once he installed a new thermostat, the system still did not cool. He looked at the unit outside and told me there was a hole in the coil and all the freon had leaked out. He also said the alternating switch was stuck in the heating position and I would need a new switch. He gave me an estimate of $1800 for this work and offered me the option of buying a used unit in good condition for $2100. I initially agreed to this, but then thought I should get a second opinion. A second company came out and found that I had an electrical problem. They did not change any parts, but simply charged me $250 for labor in solving the electrical problem. The system is working again on the same coil.

Called for a service call on my inlaws A/C unit. Mark the owner came out to look at the unit told us that a new blower wheel was needed, because the old one was broken. We said fix it we are in FL and need A/C. Mark said he would let us know if the part was in stock locally, or if he needed to have it next day shipped to him. He did not call back and let us know what was going on. My husband called him the next morning and he said he would let us know when the part arrived. Late in the day my husband called Mark again and was told the part had arrived, and "HE HAD NO CONTROL OF HIS DELIVERIES" said that the part would be brought out sometime the next day. My husband pressed further because his parents had been without A/C since Sunday and it now was Wed. On Thursday Mark showed up at my inlaws house. Mark then told us that he would not just repair the blower wheel, but that the motor also had to be replaced. This had not been talked about. Mark just started in on the repairs even though my inlaws expressed concern over the possible price. My husband and I went over to my parents house and saw Mark replacing the blower wheel and motor, said that the motor shaft was loose. Mark also stated that the heater was gone in there unit, because when he was rewiring the new motor that the heater shorted out and now was no good! He also complained that his customers wanted him to do repairs and estimates for nothing and how expensive it was to run a business. When it came time for the bill Mark wrote up that the orignal bill was for $620.00 less $200.00 discount total $450.00. Mark then told me that the A/C unit would not last 4 more months. I feel that Mark is only looking to sell new A/C units and not servicing other units. Mark stated that an A/C's life expectancy was no more than 10 years. If thats so then why does my new unit have a 10 year warranty? Mark took advantage of an 80 year old and 90 year old.
