The following are a few examples of the issues we had with this contractor's work: I told him I was not happy with the paint job he had done because many imperfections were left on the walls. He did not spackle or sand wherever necessary. He told me I had hired him to paint not to make my walls smooth! I don't know any painter who would not prep the walls before painting especially after the kind of damage I had sustained. There were also clumps of spackle left on the walls and large drips of paint down the walls. In the master bedroom it was obvious he had used two different kinds of paint (pearl and egg shell) on 2 of the walls. When I pointed this out to him he said it was the walls and not the the fact that he had used two different textures of paint! There was a hole in the ceiling by the vent in the guest bathroom which was made by the plumbers. When I brought this to his attention he said he didn't bid it and wouldn't fix it. We went back and forth until he finally agreed to fix the 2 small areas. I had to provide the spackle. I am just amazed that he would think it would be okay to leave these holes in my ceiling! He also refused to paint this ceiling when it was finished being repaired as he "did not bid to do this". I had said to him the day the sheetrock guys were there to make sure the ceiling got fixed. I said it to him twice and he obviously ignored me. He also didn't paint another area in our utility closet where the plumbers had cut holes and the wallboard people had repaired the ceiling (FYI- he also had the contract from the Association to do the wallboard repair work.). He left a 2 ft. by 3ft portion of the ceiling undone. His reason, again, was he hadn't bid to do that! This turned out to be his answer for almost everything. He painted 2 bedrooms and didn't paint the closets, even though the colors were different, because, you guessed it, he hadn't bid it! You can see 2 inches of the pink closet wall because the doors are recessed into the closet about 2 inches. BTW, he didn't redo the ceilings in these bedrooms either. I guess my stating I wanted all the texture removed in all the rooms meant, to him, except the closets and to me it meant including the closets as all meant all!!! The contractor retiled the master shower. There was beige/brown colored grout all over the ceiling above the shower. I pointed this out to him and stated I expected this ceiling to be painted so the grout wouldn't show. Again, and I know it's getting old, he said, "I didn't bid that." I told him he got the grout on the ceiling and he was to get it off. So, he painted about 8 inches from the wall out to cover the grout and never painted another inch beyond that. Please note, the ceiling is approximately 4ft by 5ft as only the shower and toilet are in the room (sinks are outside.) So picture this, he painted just 8 inches along the 5ft. wall and nothing more! The plumbers had cut the walls along the living room wall adjoining the kitchen so they could re-plumb the kitchen. The contractor hired people to sheetrock walls and ceilings. The contractor was then to cut the outlet boxes out. He did cut them out and did a hack job. He didn't fix these holes with spackle and then sanding them so he could put back the normal sized outlet plates. Oh no, he went out and bought oversized outlet covers so he didn't have to do anything but screw them on! We had a lengthy heated discussion, my husband was also present, the contractor threatened to walk out if we were going to deduct items from the list because he had not done them. I told him to go right ahead. He told us the crown moulding in the dining room and living room would be sanded and painted and then he refused to do it because there was too much silicone on it. The amount of silicone didn't change from when he agreed to do it. He just didn't want to do what he had promised! The plumber that he hired came and used the bare minimum pipe to meet code when replumbing our sinks and vanities. The pipe he was replacing was 1.5 inches he put in 1.25 and it leaked to boot! The plungers had to be adjusted, the pipe tightened, the silicone ring wasn't seated properly, hence the leak, per contractor. On the other sink the drain pipe was crooked preventing another plunger from working and had to be fixed. He put in baseboard, and actually did a nice job with this. However, he came round the room to the doorway and never painted the doorway to match the nicely painted baseboard he had just put in and the doorway had gotten banged in the repair process. I would NEVER hire him again!!
