Overall, a horrible experience! Pros: - The crew arrived on time - Driveway has not sunk or cracked- 2/3 of the top surface of the driveway is nicely finished Cons:- We ended up paying $2000, when we were quoted $1200- Existing grass was shredded beyond usability. Grass blades and roots were mangled.- Existing concrete was damaged- New concrete was smeared onto existing concrete- New concrete was smeared onto existing bricks of the house siding- Part of the finishing was done in the rain, and was not covered for curing time. The surface of this section of concrete came off in the rain, leaving an uneven, unfinished, rough surface.- One of the irrigation heads was removed but not capped at all. When the irrigation system came on, water and sand shot up between the new and existing concrete to a height of 12". Unfortunately, the location was about 10 feet in from any edge of the concrete and could not be gotten to without breaking up the new concrete. DJ refused to deal with it, and a quote I got from another concrete contractor to break up then replace the concrete was $500- The wood frame was removed (a few days later) while I was not at home. The soil was not back-filled up to the new concrete edge. Also, one of the framing pieces was left in place, which I could not remove. I called to have them come remove it, which they did, but they would not back fill the soil, stating that it was not part of the job, but rather the customer's responsibility.- The price quote was given with the assumption that the job would take 5 yards of concrete. When the 5 yards were poured, I was called out and shown that the concrete only filled about 1/2 the framing (from the fence, about 1/2 way to the street). DJ told me that he'd need at least another 3 yards, plus the delivery fee for it, which was not in the quote. I argued that it was his problem that he mis-quoted, and he stated that if I didn't want to get more concrete, that he could just leave it like it is. Needless to say, I paid for more concrete so the job could be finished.- When the concrete was brought, I was presented with the bill from the driver of the concrete truck. It was over $800. I was surprised, but figured that must just be the way DJ did things, and that the amount for the concrete was included in the $1200 quote. NOT SO!!!-When the job was finished, DJ presented me with a bill for $1200. I argued that I'd already paid $800 and only owed him $400. He said the quote was for the labor and equipment only, and that the concrete was an additional expense. Since I did not have a contract, I could not verify the deal. I felt I had no choice and was not willing to risk retribution, so I paid. By retribution, I mean that this guy knew where I live, and that my husband wasn't home, and could come tear up the concrete if he felt cheated. I hope writing this review won't have the same negative effect! Photos can be viewed here: http://concretejobproblem.shutterfly.com/pictures/9#9 These photos were taken this morning, one year after the job was complete. As you can see, the concrete that got onto the house and existing concrete did not "wash off" at any point, not even with the pressure washer.
Description of Work: Added concrete to widen the driveway, approximately 10' x 55'The concrete goes from the curb, all the way to the front edge of the garage, then extends along the side of the garage up to the fence gate. The existing sidewalk was left in place. Irrigation system heads that were along that area were to be capped/removed. The stump from a crepe myrtle (2" wide trunk) was also removed. I was quoted $1200.00. The existing grass was supposed to be cut with a sod cutter, so that it I could move it to some bare areas of the lawn. This grass was nice and green, full and healthy. The price quote did not include hauling off any dirt, concrete or the tree stump. These items were only moved into the edge of the wooded area behind my house. We did make the mistake of not writing a work contract before having the work done. By the way, my husband was out of town for business at the time, and not available to back me up.

They arrived on 11/17 as they said they would. They started working as soon as they arrived, and the tree stump and roots were removed and the entire driveway torn up and all this was hauled away. The next day 11/18 they poured a new driveway. They were very punctual and professional as well as friendly. Always arriving when they said they would. When they left they blocked the driveway so it would not be bothered until it dried. Cleaned up and left their business sign in the yard. Several days later they came and removed everything after the driveway was dry. We would certainly hire this company again
Description of Work: DJ concrete called to make arrangements to give us an estimate. The call was a very professional and business like call. DJ came and gave us an estimate on removing our damaged driveway, removing the tree stump and roots that had damaged the driveway, and the cost of a new driveway.
