When I inquired about why the price was so high he stated that " we only deal with the highest quality tanks". We currently have a 40 gallon Rheem with a 12 year warranty that has lasted us 15 years. When I asked is we could get a tank with a 12 year warranty he stated that those tanks were no longer on the market. Please someone tell me why then I was able to go to the Home Depot website and order a 50 gallon Rheem High efficiency tank with a 12 year warranty for 649.00. our local gas company will come out and install for approximately 250.00. When all is said and done we will spend about 1100.00 ordering that tank on our own and letting the gas company install it. It is sad when a company doesn't realize that consumers are no so desperate that we fail to do our own research, and that when a company's prices are way, way, way, to high, there is a way around them. Generally the company looses and the importance of researching options cannot be minimized. They lost on this one.
Description of Work: this provider came to my home to take a look at my hot water heater that was leaking at the time. He was more than willing to replace my water heater with Rheem 50 gallon tank and a 10 year warranty for 1900.00.

Plumber installed new faucet but it made an unusual noise when the hot or cold water was turned on. He then removed the faucet and installed another. Again, the faucet made an unusual sound when the water was turned on. The plumber then indicated that the sink was responsible for the unusual noise. However, the old leaky faucet NEVER made the noise. Approximately a week ago we contacted Benjamin Franklin Plumbing by phone re the problem. They indicated it had been determined that the sink was responsible for the noise and that if a plumber came to check on it we might incur a service charge. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing claims to warranty their labor and parts for two (2) years... We have not heard from BFP since our last call and are relegated to having an unsatisfactory $427 kitchen faucet.

When the plumber came he told me that he just needed to unclogged my kitchen drain. Then my washing machine would stop over flooding unto the floor. I feel my problem was too complex for this young plumber. I never felt that he knew what he was talking about. He gave me a bill of $285 to unclogged my drain. But if I wanted to replace all my kitchen plumbing it would cost me over $5,000. Are you kidding me? Three days later my kitchen sink was clogged again and my washing machine was flooding. So I called to get a refund and talked to the manager and received one. I finally did find a plumber who did the work for one third of the price and I am happy to say everything is working just fine. I feel these large companies have too many employees that are not fully trained or can handle complex problems. A small local plumber with three employees was able to give me the personal service I needed. I plan to give my business to smaller local companies, from now on.

Wayne from Ben Franklin was very prompt and punctual with his arrival, even on a Sunday. He discovered that our toilet problem was actually a septic related issue. He was able to locate the septic access and temporarily restore toilet function until we could get the septic people out to fix the actual issue. We will definitely call Ben Franklin again for any plumbing needs and will ask specifically for Wayne.

The technician came out the same day I called. He arrived, as scheduled, between 7 pm and 9pm. There was no additional "after hours" charge. The technician wrote up a quote and I asked him to proceed with replacing the hot water heater. He and another technician arrived the next morning and completed the work. They took care of everything, including the gas line permit and replacing the rotten, wood platform the old heater was on. They cleaned up after themselves and the final bill was exactly what I had been quoted the day before.

I needed to replace main water pipe bringing water to the house which was broken at one spot right underneath the ground next to the house. I purchased $65 service charge from Angies List and called Benjamin Franklin to schedule service. Great communication as far as scheduling. The gentleman arrived on time and looked at the pipe, brought the chart with price for different categories and this one was about $315. I signed it since i already purchased $65 service charge prior. The technician digged for a couple of minutes, took out the damaged section of pipe, and connected new one. He didnt know i already bought service charge fee which i stated to the receptionist 2 times prior to service and was trying to charging me for it so if i didnt pay attention and ask about that i would pay service charge twice! He was in and out within 25 minutes. He did his job right, however i would neither recommend this company nor will i use their service in the future based on the price i had to pay for 25 minutes of work. Later i checked with couple other local plumbing companies to get an estimate, (which i should have done first place) to find out i really overpaid. The job done right, but i should have shopped around first for lower price.

We found a broken pipe in our backyard. Apparently it had been leaking for quite sometime. I called the Water Company, they came checked it out. Even though it was near the meter it was within my property line, so it was my problem. I called several plumbing companies, they would come today, but it would be after five and overtime would be involved. I called Benjamin Franklin, they scheduled an appointment between seven and nine, no overtime. I received a call around three and they wanted to come early. The plumber arrived, he was very courteous, surveyed the problem and gave me a quote. He went right to work, completed the job, gave me the bad parts, and showed me the crack with another spot about to give out. What more could you ask, arrived early, was professional and courteous, completed the job as quoted. Thank you Wayne, appreciate your work.

The company responded promptly and scheduled a same day appointment, and then they were able to actually arrive early to perform the work. The plumber who arrived was professional and provided a good explanation of what he thought needed to be done, and did also provide an accurate estimate. It took roughly 15-20 minutes total time to complete the work. I have nothing negative to say regarding their work or professionalism. My only issue is with the cost. As this is a larger company that is in many locations, I believe that you are paying more for the name (overhead) than you are for the skills of the plumber or the job being done.

They came in to change out a valve under our kitchen sink that was leaking and we couldn't get it to turn off. They changed one, but not the other and within a week, the other one was leaking too. When we called to have them come back, the office personnel said they "never change one without changing both...especially in an older house." She dispatched them to come back a second time and replace the other valve at no charge

The young lady that I first made contact with by phone to schedule a visit to give estimate for this work was very courteous and professional. I was contacted the day of the appointment by another (possibly the same person) to confirm the appointment and to let me know that they were on their way for the service call. They were coming from Niceville to my home in Defuniak Springs. The guys who came out - Clifford Stapp and Ray Mercer - were both very professional and helpful. Questions were answered and also they let me know of other services that Benjamin Franklin could provide if ever needed. I was a little surprised about the cost (seemed a little high considering I had the EXACT same pump for replacement as the one they were replacing). Service was completed in a little less than an hour. There was no itemization of the charges on the invoice, including there was nothing documented in the Arrival Time nor the time spent. I would have like to have seen in writing a little better breakdown of the charges than what I received. The area was left clean, new pump working perfectly and I have been very pleased with the work since then. For this service the company seemed to be very reliable and prompt and professional. I would not hesitate to recommend them to someone who needs their services, but would hold them to documenting a little better on the invoice in the future.

It went very well, but it was expensive. I had been trying to get someone to come out to work on my leak for quite some time. I called at least 10 plumbers and nobody could come out because they were booked up. Benjamin Franklin told me they could have someone out within about 2 hours so I reluctantly agreed to the $69 service call fee. When they workmen showed up they were very professional both in appearance and mannerisms. They answered all my questions with a high degree of professionalism and told me that since the leak was in the foundation, I would have to pay for HydroScout to come out and pinpoint my leak. He gave me an estimate for tearing up the floor and repairing the leak once the leak location had been pointed out by the guy from HydroScout. I had HydroScout come out do the assessment. He recommended the repair be done overhead with pex tubing instead of tearing up my hardwood floor to do the repair especially since our house is over 30 years old and the remaining copper pipe might start leaking under the foundation at a different location later on. That sounded like good advice, so I had the HydroScout guy call Benjamin Franklin to explain what he recommended. When the crew came back I took notice of their truck which seemed to be well-equipped and in good condition and also noted that there were two plumbers who came on the call. I thought that was a little unusual to see two guys coming to a plumbing call but it seems like a very good (albeit more expensive) way to do it. A crew can do so much more than someone working by themselves. Clifford gave me an estimate and even though I thought it was on the high side, he assured me that was the total price for the job I needed done so I knew in advance exactly what it would cost. If they had been wrong about how much work it would be, they would have paid the price by having to do the job for less than it was probably worth. On the other hand, if they did a good job and everything went perfectly, they would be well paid. Either way, I would have my problem solved with a 2 year guarantee. They ended up spending a total of about 5 hours on my job including the two trips to estimate and troubleshoot the problem. Since there were two of them, that was about 10 man hours and at the cost of $900 was about $90 an hour per man. That is a lot of money but they came out right away and were as professional and cooperative with me as I could ever expect from a plumber. When you consider the overhead of maintaining a company with well stocked trucks like that, it's really not such a bad deal. Both of the guys that came out were very experienced and skilled and they deserve to be paid well. Who knows, maybe if we manage to get some sanity in our government and get rid of ObamaCare, the company will be able to forecast lower operating costs and everyone will be able to do the same work for less money.
Description of Work: Installed an overhead pex water line from my water heater to where the manifold was located in another part of the house with because the copper line that went into the foundation was leaking down inside the concrete. He also had to cut out the wall in the back of my pantry to get at the manifold to make the connections. I also had him replace the waterlines that went to my washer out in the garage because someone else had put in standard pvc which was run overhead and was a risk for leaking and flooding my house.

The plumber Cliff was very nice and professional. Cliff did fix the valves to be able to turn on my water for the whole house. The great part is he didn't charge me for the service fee. I really try to get Old Republic to use Benjamin Franklin because I wanted to get the job done right the first time. He gave me a quote of $926 dollars to fix both bathroom to replace the shower valves and install shut off valves in each bathroom. My house is a 1979, so the plumbing parts needs to be updated and fixed. The only problem with this company is that is goes by Fix Rate Pricing and Old Republic does not like Fix Rate Pricing, so Old Republic would not reimburse me if I used Benjamin Franklin. Old Republic wants all the prices broken down from parts, labor, and etc. I have to use ACME plumbling because of Old Republic. Old Republic is only going to cover the one bathroom for the shower valve that came apart and blow out the water where the handle is on the tub. Acme doesn't come out until the 4 Nov 13 to fix my shower valve. If I want the second bathroom fix I will have to come out of pocket a total of $250 to $300, which doesn't include a shut off valve.
Description of Work: Benjamin Franklin came out to my house after Old Republic (home protection company) could not find a plumber in their Newtork to come out on a Saturday to fix the shower value that flooded my house on Friday night. I had to turn off the main water line from the outside. My family went without water almost 24 hours before Benjamin Franklin showed up.

After looking at the disposal he told me it would need to be replaced. He started writing up an estimate, and I was shocked at the prices. The cheapest price was $404 plus the $69 trip charge ($476). When I asked if he could break down the costs into labor and materials, he told me the company had specific pricing and he was not able to break it down. I asked him how long it would take, and he said not long. I have had disposals replaced before for under $300 (materials and labor) so I guess I figured the pricing would be similar. The disposal he was going to replace it with retails for about $99 at Lowe's. So really, that's a very high mark-up. I couldn't justify spending that amount, so I paid the $69 trip charge and told my guests not to use the disposal until I can get it fixed after the weekend for about $285. I should have heeded a previous reviewer. The company and tech were professional but I would suggest to others to make sure to get several quotes before deciding on this company.
Description of Work: I own a vacation rental in Navarre and was there just for a couple days to do some work on the property. Realized my garbage disposal was not working (leaking actually) and thought I'd better take care of it before the next guests arrived that afternoon. I called several plumbing companies, and decided on Benjamin Franklin Plumbing because they were able to send someone out right away whereas two others were not able to respond until after the weekend. The tech showed up on time.

Member, I appreciate your kind reviews of our responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism. We strive to meet our customers’ needs, and your review confirms that we have successfully done that. As you indicated in your post, we had a plumber at your home on the Friday preceding a holiday weekend within one hour of your call. Our plumbers are not given price breakdowns, so he was certainly not trying to be evasive when you inquired about that. We have straight-forward pricing, which is based upon the average amount of time and materials it takes for our plumbers to perform a specified task nationwide. I am sure that you understand that any markup on equipment entails much more than profit. Any extra monies go primarily to overhead. As a businessman yourself, I’m sure that you know that it costs money to run background checks and drug screens on the people that you trust with your reputation. Each of our employees has passed these checks and they are all subject to random drug screens. Each of our employees is bonded and insured, and we place a two year parts and labor warranty on all of our work. As with most things in life, quality comes at a price. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing does not promise to be the lowest cost plumber in the area. What we do promise is that we will do quality work, back it with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and be there on time, every time. I hope your new disposal performs wonderfully for years to come. If you find yourself in need of a plumber in the future, please don’t hesitate to call on us. Sincerely, Lee Hardesty Office Manager

What an amazingly kind man Clifford was and so patient with my silly questions. I was so grateful. And to think this business charges the same rates for their service call as if it were during the week instead of a weekend. I joined their Ben Franklin Society which was $99 a year for maintenance and preventative visits, a plumbing discount and to go to the top of the list if I need a service call.
Description of Work: I called for a plumber on Saturday night after 2 other companies had failed to provide the service I needed. Ben Franklin is a 24/7 business and had no trouble fixing my problem. Clifford was the service plumber who showed up earlier then planned and did several things. He searched with his equipment for my sewer clean out site. He got on my roof and tried to identify the blockage using his camera and then located the sewer pipe coming from my house with a device that located his camera in my pipe underground. He then tried to snake out the blockage from the roof as we couldn't find the sewer clean out. However when he couldn't reach the blockage with his 50 ft snake from my roof he dug down to the sewer pipe in my front yard and cut it open and cleared the blockage. He showed me on his camera that my sewer pipe had partially collapsed and that was why I had the problem. This was all in the dark on a Saturday night. He then explained in detail the cost to replace the 9 ft section of pipe that had partially collapsed. He returned the next morning (Sunday) and replaced the pipe and created 2 new sewer clean out sites that I can now find easily. My yard was barely impacted by all this.

Called Benjamin Franklin for appointment and was told the only one available that day was between 7 and 9 p.m. I told her I would take it but told her I was going to contact other plumbers to see if I could get one any sooner and that if I did I would call her back to cancel. She said that was fine and she understood. Very polite and pleasant. I could not find an earlier appointment with any other plumber. The plumber called when he was on his way. He performed the above work in a friendly, professional manner. Took my coupon when offered and gave my discount. We would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Had roots growing in toilet pipe. Plumber removed toilet and cleared line with roto equipment. Checked sewer lines with camera. Reinstalled toilet. Showed where the clean out valve is. I do not understand all the details but my husband was there and watched the entire process and was very pleased with the professionaL manner of the plumber and the fact that he explained to him exactly what he was doing, how he was going to do it, and the expected results. He was willing and able to answer any questions put to him. He was there just over two hours and I feel the price charged was very fair for the amount of work he did.
