Max Chaves is a good guy but am not trusting of folks he recommends. Unfortunately, because this entire process of getting this guy 'Mike' out here and Max dragging his feet on follow-up, I cannot give Bearmax a quality rating. Customer service is huge in my world and part of any reputable and quality contractor service is communication and follow-up when stuff happens. And this has not been the case at all. My frustration level of constantly calling, texting to get action on this cement issue is absolutely unacceptable when there R tons of other contractors willing to step in a do the job right and properly follow up when stuff goes wrong after the fact. Proper follow-up, in the small town, means more work down the road from happy customers. It's important to choose the right contractor for the job when U put out a lot of money to get something done and done right!! I will not recommend Bearmax to others due to this experience.
Description of Work: Max and his sidekick Brian are very hard working men who typically do quality work. We used them previously for installing tile in our 30 yr old home, and were very happy with the results. We again hired them for our most recent project replacing/updating the 30 yr old wood deck that was in much need of replacing. We wanted a multi-dimensional look to it ,unlike the old deck. They offered suggestions and drew pictures to help with my visual part of the process. When they started in late April/early May 2012 what was estimated a week to ended up being at least 2 weeks to wait on more materials to be delivered. They used discounted wood, to keep the cost low. Once completed it looked amazing and really enhances our backyard experiences. We sealed after 2-weeks and will seal again. Part of the deck construction included a small size cement pad we wanted included at the base of the deck that connects to the pool deck. He hired his cement guy named 'Mike'. Sadly, as soon as the cement was cured and we could place our lawn furniture on it we noticed water settling in the center of the pad after rain and when our sprinklers fell on it. The pad was not leveled in a way water could run off the sides. We contacted Max to tell him and the follow up with Mike and Mike's lack of response has been mind numbing. This now Nov 2012 he(Mike) has finally made an effort to come out and put a 'thin set' on the pad in an effort to build up the low lying area of the pad. His tools have been sitting out there at the pad with an obvious repair performed but now it doesn't appear finished. He doesn't communicate, so it's hard to know what his plan is as far as making the entire pad appear uniform. Now it looks like there is a swath of scrapings running through the middle and it doesn't look good. This process is still in progress and hope he returns to finish. I've texted Max and Mike and not sure if I will hear from either of them again. Sadly this review does fall onto Max because he's the one who recommended this man for the job. We have friends who also used him to lay a cement patio in the back yard and they too R having problems with it. Max, I would advise if U want to keep a decent grade with Angie U better change cement guys.
