Notwithstanding the fact that the job took twice as long as it was estimated to take and that at one point we had to move to a hotel, they did an excellent job and we are delighted with the results. The wood (engineered) we chose could not be installed over a floating insulation layer, but had to be glued down as well as the cork. Taking up the ceramic tile took the better part of the first day. For reasons not made clear to us, the carpet was not removed the same day although they had time to do that, too. The second day the carpet was taken up and the cork layer was installed over almost the whole area. In one area the jackhammer had taken the tile off too energetically--down into the cement. That part of the floor had to be recemented. Unfortunately, it did not dry overnight which caused a work day's loss as the cork could not be laid down in that area. And the wood could not be laid on the already-corked area because of the way it has to be laid out. The glue for the cork emitted a very strong odor like lacquer thinner or similar solvent that actually caused us to stay in a hotel. After four days, only the cork had been put down and the glue smell was still very noticeable. Then the weekend-holiday interrupted the job. However, once the wood was laid (the glue for that was different and almost odorless), it stopped the first glue smell. The installation of the wood was the fastest part of the job, about one and a half days. Another half day was needed to put the molding and thresholds on, as well as the rest of the cleanup. All debris was carted away and the new floor was swept clean. They also moved all the furniture onto our balcony or into the spare room and then moved it all back after attaching felt pads on all furniture with legs. The job was originally estimated to take three days. It ended up taking seven (not always full days). We feel they did a very professional job and obviously took great care and pride in their work. We are very pleased with the way they handled the job and are very happy with our new floors.
