On 8/20, we discovered that one of our a/c units was not working. At 8:00 PM, we called our home warranty company who contacted 2 Cool A/C. At 7:45 AM the next morning, a rep from 2 Cool A/C called to see when they could come out. Appointment was set for between 8 and 10 AM on 08/22 (They would have come on 8/21, but we weren't available). The tech arrived at 8:30 AM, promptly diagnosed the problem and repaired the unit on the spot by installing a new capacitor. The tech explained why the unit may have failed (power outages and surges by recent, frequent thunderstorms), and offered suggestions on how to prevent a reoccurrence. The tech indicated that surge suppressors were available for a nominal fee, but did not push them or try to offer unneeded services in any manner. Bottom line is that 2 Cool A/C was very responsive, arrived on time, was polite and professional and did exactly what was needed to repair the unit without pushing anything else. I paid the nominal service call fee and the tech was on his way. Nice job 2 Cool A/C! Thank you.

Here's the whole story... One evening my A/C stopped working. Occasionally it ran for a short time, but by the next day it was 89 in the house. Thankfully a friend I trust, recommended 2 Cool A/C as a company I could also trust. I checked out their website and found several phone numbers. When I talked to Marcia in the office the next morning, she told me that ALL numbers are routed to her at the office. She offered me two types of service calls. I chose the least expensive, as my system had been checked out not long ago as the Last One on a service contract I had gotten with a different company that I did NOT like. And... because I mentioned something from their website, I got an even Better Deal. We both figured it was probably something simple, as a clogged drain line. Because I had another appointment in the morning, we set up the service call for the afternoon. At that time the A/C was running again, so it didn’t seem urgent. However by morning it was getting pretty hot again, as it had quit again overnight. I was so happy that Keith called in the Morning to say he was in the area and asked if he could stop by in a half hour. Yes! Turns out I have Two float switches! He cleaned out my clogged drain pipe after informing me it would cost a bit more and asking if I approved. Oh yes! Well worth the few extra $. He was nice enough to explain the maintenance I can do myself to Prevent this from happening again. My other appointment showed up, just as he was leaving – so the timing was Great, and the house was already cooling off!
Description of Work: He discovered the reason my A/C shut off was due to a clogged drain line which in turn made the float switch shut off the unit. He used pressure after adding water & something else to the pipe so the vacuum would draw it out.

The day after the unit was repaired (located in my attic), I woke up to water leaking thru my ceiling. 2 cool air responded quickly and sent someone out to repair. Repair man was very nice and stated that the drain pan was cracked and line was not set up properly for water to drain. These damage repairs (including my ceiling) were done at no cost however I felt that I should receive some reimbursement of the $550 since this labor cost resulted in water coming thru my ceiling and having to call in to work that day. I was told by worker doing repairs to call the office back regarding a refund. When I called and left a message with them x2, I received no return phone call. I then found the managers email online and finally received a response that leak was due to cracked drain pan and was not a fault of their employees and that it was unfortunate that my unit was located in my attic. This response was obviously inaccurate and insulting. It would have been very coincidental that the drain pan cracked the day after they did repairs and plus, the repair guy already stated drain line was set up improperly to allow water to drain! In the end, 2 cool air did repair the damage they caused which is the LEAST they could have done. I received no reimbursement on the labor.
Description of Work: My a/ c unit was under warranty. 2 cool air had installed the original unit a few years ago. I had experienced great service from them so I contacted them when my unit was not cooling properly. The evaporator coil and thermostatic expansion valve needed to be replaced. The unit was under warranty so I just needed to pay for labor which was $550.

I am not happy at all because I had a problem with the unit leaking. I called them and they told me that if I had someone come out today, which was Saturday, they told me they would have to charge more for a service call so how about we set this up for Monday. This is after I just spent $4,468.50. I have also asked the general manager for the past month and a half several times to give me a break down of the cost. I have not received the break down, so I talked to the general manager again and he said first thing Monday,7/11/11,he will give it to me. I had not received it at 11am so I called them again. They kept telling me that he was in a meeting or on a job. The next day,7/12/11, I finally got to talk to the owner and he told me that it was 3 months ago and I will not get it. They promised me since I had a problem earlier they would give me an extended warranty and they said I would get the paperwork in about 2 months. I have yet to see the paper work. I am extremely upset with how they have treated me. My air conditioner on my roof gave out after I had jut put on a new roof. Steve’s Roofing did the job and it was done in a excellent manner. In order to properly seal the new roof my airconditioner had to be moved and put back in place after roofing job was done. Steve’s Roofing suggested I used 2 Cool Air to do this. I paid 2 Cool Air $290.00 to do this. Invoice Service Order # 16040 – 2 Cool Air Conditioning my check # 457. We had a hard rainstorm and nothing leaked. About 2 weeks after this my old air conditioner went out and died. I contracted with 2 Cool Air Conditioning for a new 2 ton – 13 Seer Goodman Air conditioner for $4,468.50 which I paid in full. Less than 2 weeks later their was a heavy rainstorm late Friday early Saturday morning and I had water leaking in my hallway from the roof down in the hallway ceiling. I called 2 Cool Air Conditioning early Saturday morning (after 9 am) for help. Marci answered call – told me she was in St. Augustine, FL and would call me back. Marci called me back around noon and said no one would be coming over today (Saturday) as she didn’t want to charge me with a service call but she would send Mike Cotnoir – G.M. out first thing Monday morning. Mike showed up early Monday and I told him I was upset that I had just spend $4,468.50 with his company a few weeks ago, I was cleaning up – mopping my floor and emptying buckets of water all Friday night late and early Saturday morning and Marci said she would not send someone out without a service charge until Monday. Mike Contnoir, the General Manager, apologized, gave me a card with his cell number and told me to call him anytime I had a problem. Mike said he would make sure as an apology to me to get me on extended warranty to cover parts, labor, etc. for no costs to me coming from the manufacture Goodman that they usually charge $300-$400 for. Mike put him some foam insulation and I thought that was end of my leaks. The very next severe heavy rainstorm July 8, 2011 late at night early Saturday I had another leak in my hallway. I called Mike who came out on Saturday and suggested I called Steve Miller Roofing as he could not find a leak around the air conditioner unit. Steve Miller – owner of Steve’s Roofing came out with Eric and found 3 leaks where tape 2 Cool Air had improperly sealed and fixed the problem. I called Mike Cotnoir back and told him Steve came out and found 3 spots where water was getting in and sealed these. I said Mike and I quote, “Mike, I have asked you repeatedly and this is the 6th time in the last 1 and frac12; months when am I going to get the extended warranty paperwork you promised.” Mike said he would be out first thing Monday morning with the paperwork as he had been busy. I also asked Mike for an itemized bill breaking down cost of $4,468.50 for the 6th time also and Mike said he would give this to me also on Monday, first thing. When I didn’t hear anything at 11am called 2 Cool Air and Marci answered phone. When I told her what Mike had said – she replied Mike did not say anything to her about coming to my house and he was out on a call. I called Mike’s cell phone – left a message for Mike to call me. He never returned my call. So on Tuesday I called 2 Cool Air Marci answered and said Mike is not available and you can talk to Jeff the owner of 2 Cool. I explained to Jeff I had repeatedly asked Mike for an itemized bill breaking down the $4,468.50 I paid for my 2 ton – 13 Seer Goodman New Air Conditioner. Jeff replied I am not going to get it. I said well than I hadenough of the run around and I was going to contact Angie’s List and the BBB. Jeff replied and I was shocked when he stated, “This is nothing more than extortion and how much do I want the check made out for.” With that I hung up and contacted Angie’s List and Better Business Bureau (BBB). I thought Jeff’s comment was totally of base and shocking an owner would say that. I also contacted the BBB of The Tampa Bay Area and they let me know I was the 8th complaint in the last 3 years. Thank you. Dennis Donovan 7/22/11 UPDATE - 10/18/2011 - The comments that 2 Cool made to my original complaint contain several inaccuracies. 2 Cool Air Conditioning made the comment that in order to receive the price advertised, I had to present the coupon at the time of purchase. In fact, the coupon was not advertised until after I had contracted with them. The newly advertised price was for the same 2-Ton 13 SEER air conditioning unit by Goodman. However, the new price was $3100.00 which included all permits and a 10-year warranty. I had paid $4468.00 for the same product. I called 2 Cool Air Conditioning to inquire about the steep price difference and spoke to the general manager 6 times in the past month and a half. Each time, I was told that I would be provided with a price breakdown to illustrate, but I never received one. Finally, I spoke with the owner who told me that he would not provide a price breakdown. The owner told me that and quot; This is extortion, and for how much should I write the check?and quot; I told the owner that his comments were inappropriate, and I disconnected the call. Then, I phoned the Better Business Bureau in order to file a complaint, and I learned that the company has had 8 complaints in the past 3 years. Upon learning this, I asked the Better Business Bureau representative why 2 Cool Air Conditioning had an and quot;Aand quot; rating with so many complaints on file, and the representative said it wasn't her department and could not answer. I had also phoned the Better Business Bureau because I had 2 different leaks in my ceiling hallway. These leaks had occurred because 2 Cool Air Conditioning had not properly sealed the area aound the new unit they installed during my roof replacement. I had to mop my floor twice and began to experience health problems from exposure to mold that had developed. 2 Cool Air Conditioning blamed the roofers saying they had not sealed the roof properly. However, the roofer came out twice and showed me exactly where and why 2 Cool was at fault, and the roofer showed where he had repaired 2 Cool's mistakes. I called Angie's List and received a recommendation for a highly rated ceiling repair specialist who quoted a price of $475.00 for the repairs. The Better Business Bureau advised me to send the quote to them, and they would try to have 2 Cool pay for the repairs. I was still sick and just wanted to have the repairs made quickly, so I even discounted the estimate by $100.00 in hopes that 2 Cool would respond. Later, the Better Business Bureau contacted me to inform that 2 Cool would pay $375.00 for the repairs. I went to the Better Business Bureau's offices to collect the check, but the representative handling my case had left due to a personal emergency. Ultimately, another representative placed a 2- page legal document in front of me which absolved 2 Cool from any further liability, and he told me that the document must be signed before I received the check. Furthermore, I learned that the check wasn't even on the premises and would be mailed to me. Naturally, I declined to sign the document. Ultimately, the Better Business Burea declared the ordeal a stalemate, and I paid for the ceiling repairs which is completely unjust. I believe that 2 Cool should have paid for the repairs. Another issue is that 2 Cool has not sent any documentation of the 10-year warranty. I signed the paperwork they sent and mailed it to them as requested, but no documentation has been returned to me after nearly 3 months. Furthermore, their advertisement doesn't provide full disclosure of all the costs associated with installing the air conditioning unit. In conclusion, this proves that 2 Cool is dishonest. Buyer beware! Dennis I Donovan October 18, 2011

Response from 2 Cool Air Conditioning Inc
In response to (Member Name)’s complaint dated on 07/12/2011, we at, 2 Cool Air Condition, Inc., did install a new 2 ton straight cool air conditioner at his residence. When he first had a problem with a roof leak and he called us, we sealed all areas that pertained to the air conditioning unit. When (Member Name) balled back and told us that the leak still existed, we told him to call the roofing company to stop the leak. The roofing company explained where the leaks were coming from. We sealed those areas as well as extra sealing around the base of the cover and the electrical whips where they entered the cover, using expansion foam then covering it with roofing tar. Permits were issued and passed by Pasco County for our mechanical and electrical work. I believe the problem with the roof leak was not because of 2 Cool Air Condition and is the direct result of the roofing company he contracted; therefore we are not responsible for any repairs inside of the home. We have been told it has been corrected by that roofing company since then. As far as the itemized bill, it is not a normal business practice to show any customer our profit margins in any part of the work being performed, nor would any other business for that matter. The following is a breakdown of the work performed by us and the sub-contractors: 2 Cool Air Condition $3,100.00 includes permit and taxes Design Electric $756.42 includes permit and taxes Rod Miller Crane Service $559.00 includes trip charges and taxes 2 Cool Air Condition $52.58 Additional duct parts needed The price that (Member Name) is showing from “The Flyer” and was not presented to us when the quote or work was done. (Member Name) only presented the ad after a couple of weeks had passed since the work was completed and inspected. We were already below the price in the advertisement for the equipment. If the coupon is presented at the estimate we would have honored the coupon. An application for the 10 year labor has been mailed to (Member Name) on 7/28/11 and we are awaiting the form to e mailed back with his signature. At that time we will finish the filing process for the labor warranty. If there are any questions that need further explanation, feel free to call me at (727) 848 – 2665. Thank you.

My air handler stopped blowing cold air so I called 2 Cool Air out to take a look. I believe it was the owner who came out and he determined there was a leak in the air handler coil. He said it was too old to just replace the coil so I would need a new air handler. Two men came out to install this unit on Friday March 21st 2008. Two gentlemen worked on installing it all day and had not been able to get it going so they called it a night. The next day an older gentleman came out and after about an hour he had the unit running and it seemed to be working well. A month latter it was hot enough for air-conditioning again and when I went to turn it on it was only blowing out warm air. I called them back out and they said it had not been properly charged after installation so they charged it up. After they recharged the coolant it was working fine for a few days but soon started to blow out warm air so I had to call them out again. This time the guy told me I had a leak in the condenser unit coil and he could not get the torch in there to fix it so I would need a new roof-top condenser unit and it would cost 1800. At this point I was upset that I was not told of this leak in the first place and now all of a sudden I need to spend almost 2000 more dollars. This did not seem right so I called a guy named Cliff with McCaskill Air to come take a look. He said it definitely was leaking but it looked like someone had slammed the cover down on coil and damaged He said he could easily fix it and charge the system for 288 dollars. He also said they had installed a 2 ton air handler with a 1.5 ton condenser unit and that it could cause problems down the road. Cliff fixed the leak and fully charged the coolant and it cost me $288 to save myself from 2 Cool Air. I was furious and I feel this company is very dishonest. The main reason I joined Angie's List was to let others know about experience with 2 Cool Air.

They came out right away to check out the situation. I had lost AC. They determined I had a leak and even showed me where it was and explained how the machine they were using worked to find it (I like to be educated on these things). After they determined the leak was in a major area, it was obvious the system needed to be replaced and they explained to me exactly why and what I was getting. They were very patient with me as I changed my mind 2x as to which brand to go with. After I did my homework, I determined that they were giving me a very fair deal ($). Everyone was great to work with and Bobbi the office manager insured everything worked smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised a week later when a service guy was in the area and he called to ask me how things were going. When I mentioned that I was disappointed that it didn't seem to be pulling as much humidity out as my old unit (I downgraded from a TRANE to a TEMPSTAR). He said he'd come out and check on it and there was probably an adjustment he could make. After running a bunch of tests he determined that I had a bad thermostat and switched it out. The system works effortlessly now. The only down side was that they aren't associated with a very good company offering financing. The finance company only offered 3 months same as cash and were difficult to work with. I was forced to put it on my credit card to figure it out later. It would have made my decision to make this needed but unplanned for repair much less stressful.
