Ocean State Air Conditioning & Heating

Horrible experience! The AC pan was overflowing, I just needed the drains cleared. They charged $460 to clear the lines, then went to town on a "deep" clean on the coils and "inspection" which I didn't ask for ie = $460. The pan was overflowing, that's all. That should be a $200, 30 minute job. But then, literally 6 days later, the AC pan was overflowing again. They came out and said oh....now you need new coils, ie $2500! The exact same thing they just cleaned a few days ago for $460! What? So they either misdiagnosed it, or damaged it the first time. Either way, they charged $460, and I got nothing in return, still have the same problem and now they want another $2500 "to fix what they cleaned earlier" ??? That's not fair! They clearly don't know what they're doing and shooting in the dark and charging as they go.

Robert has serviced our systems for 15+ years. We’ve used Ocean State for new construction, repairs/replacement and ongoing regular maintenance. There is nothing more important than service after the sale, Robert and the Ocean State team service our HVAC needs at the highest level. I highly recommend Ocean State.

Extremely disappointed. I asked for a leak check and they charged me $282 for 1.25 hours work. Then they gave me a quote to replace the coil which was far above others that I later checked. Needless to say, I will not use them again.

We just had an air conditioner put in literally a week ago, an entire unit. They put he unit in just fine. I guess I'm going to give them a "B". I only say that because we kept getting system faults for a week. It took them a week to fix it. It wasn't that it took them a week to fix it. They finally called the carrier to get some additional information I think they could've done that a little earlier in the process. I don't know how to compare the price. It seems high to me but I don't know that's actually the case. I use Ocean State because we've always used Ocean State and we've been here for 40 years. They've always done a good job for us as far as servicing it and warranty work. We do have a ten year warranty. They've been very responsive. They do a good job. I can't say that we've ever had a serious issue with them ever.

I was comfortable with their pricing.

I gave them an A due to their knowledge and professionalism. They left the area clean. It only took 2 hours to complete the service.

Tech arrived earlier than originally agreed upon (was notified he was arriving earlier). He was informative, quick and thorough.

They did all my work. I’m on a contract with them. They have good price.

They were really good. When we had an emergency, they came right away. The work they did was great. They were able to come right away. There was no extra fee for an emergency called. They got here the same day I called. The guy had a little trouble but he managed to figure it out. He called a couple of people in their office and got it done in about an hour. So I was really happy. He came here at 6:00 pm and was here for about an hour. I expected the price to be a lot more expensive. I never had any problems since then.

John is a really nice fellow and the second visit to my house in a year. He knows the equipment very well and knows how to diagnose other potential problems. I'm extremely happy with the service from Ocean State. Same day, they scheduled the estimate for a duct cleaning and quote on an air purifier. Matthew showed up promptly and was very easy to work with. I was having other work done on the house and he was very courteous to the other service provider too. They helped each other out a bit. Rare to see. I will continue to be a customer.

During the coldest period we had this year, our AC and heat went out. We contacted them and within 48 hours they gave us an estimate and had it installed. The unit seems to be running pretty well.

I got home about 7:15 pm and the A/ C was not working. The thermostat was blank and not working. Called Ocean State about 7:30 PM and the technician answered. He was on a job on the West side of town. After explainingthe problem he tried to walk me through a couple of fixes but to no avail. He would come over as soon as he finished the job he was on. Arrived about 10:00 pm. It was a bad Float Switch. He had the part in his truck and had it fixed in about an hour. Total was $282.89. I am writing this 2 days later and it is working fine. The Service call was $140.00 and the part and tax was $142.89 for a total of $282.89. Not sure what the cost of a regular service call would have been. The unit is about 11 years old. We use this provider to do the semiannual maintenance on the unit.

Linda from Ocean State called and asked if Brod could come a little earlier than the scheduled appointment. Since I was available I agreed. When Brod arrived we could hear thunder in the area and dark clouds. He proceeded to work inside and out. The rains did come but he continued to work and get the job done. It took a little longer than normal due to the storm but he was very cheerful and professional. Even with the storm he keep the carpet clean (could not tell anyone had even been here). I buy filters by the box to save money and he puts one in for me each time he does a service call. He went over the paper work and he explained what he had done today. I would highly recommend Ocean State. The office staff and the technicians are all very courteous and professional.

The service men are very good and call me to schedule an appointment. They call before they come to let me know they are on the way. I have had good service from them and don't have anything negative to say about them. I've never compared their price with anyone else but I feel they are comparable to others.

These guys used to be great. I have used them since1992. However, now they try to rip you off. The maintenance guys they send for repairs are paid a commission and they try to oversellEVERYTHING to you. The last guy they sent tried to sell me insulation for a 2ft piece of copper. Said I needed to buy it from them. Cost $80 installed. Charged me $170 to splice a 6 inch piece of drain line. My plumber said it was 75 dollar job MAXIMUM. They are now like an unscrupulous auto repair shop. You can't trust them.

We have a contract for yearly maintenance. It is $159 and they come twice a year to clean the drain lines for the air handler and they clean out the actual unit outside. They also put our new system in. They are a little expensive but they come when they say they are going to come and they are very efficient. We will continue to use them.

They were just fair. The technician was rather unkempt and he spent a lot of time in our bathroom. He cleaned up after doing the job for most part. I spent $700 on the repair when I wasn't expecting to so I don't think I can rate them high. They just fixed it today so I can't tell how well it is working. They were responsive.

I had a maintenance agreement and during that period I had a leak in the ac that they didn't fix. They claimed that it needed to be fixed, but it wasn't covered by their maintenance. They closed the leak with my Freon and did some work on it and told me that I had to have them come back and fix the leak when there was no leak. I would highly recommend people not to use them and I would never use them again in the future.

.Their estimate was for $8000. They were high on price. Everything else was good. I would consider them to give me a quote in the future.

This has been a nightmare. Theron replaced the evaporator coil on 6/15/2010 and we called Ocean State as the system wasn't cooling properly and couldn't handle the heat to the day. When I notified Ocean State of the problem, they sent out another tech, Lynn, who told us we needed new refrigerant lines (the only part of the system not covered by warranty) because the chase, he deduced (incorrectly) was full of water. I checked the house for water leaks and found none. I had a sprinkler repair person out who said there was no possibility of that system leaking under the house. I checked the drain line off the unit for leaks as well and found none. To deal with the heat, I purchased skylight covers and spent a day on the roof installing them. We stopped cooking in the kitchen on hot days. The system ran 24/7. I installed a portable a/c unit. We used ceiling fans despite owning a top of the line Carrier unit. During the annual maintenance in winter, they could find nothing wrong. In spring, when it started to warm up again, I again notified them of this ongoing problem. This time, they sent out a tech - Angel (truly was one) who came at 3 in the afternoon and said "when I leave, it'll be right". He worked until 9pm, and found a rubber seal blocking the refrigerant lines, left in the system from Theron's 6/15/2010 repair. Angel fixed the system. While I greatly appreciate Angel's fine work, I spent almost a year running the system 24/7 and still not getting reasonable service out the system. I spoke with Frieda, who promised to "make it right" and was contacting Carrier, etc., but absolutely nothing has been done and it now 2 months, despite numerous phone calls. Chris did apologize, but also said there was nothing he could do since it wasn't his company. While I will continue to use Ocean State for this unit because they installed it and I have a 10 year warranty, I can't envision using them for new work after this experience.

I have used them for four years. I am pleased with their service. They are on time and are easy to get to on the phone. They respond quickly to any type of service call. They send you a post card and follow up with a phone call to schedule the regular maintenance appointment. Their price was right in the ballpark.
