I had a simple cable break on my garage door. I called Precision Door Service and asked for a quote to replace both of my cables set. Simple job. I was told that the service call would be $49 and replacing the cable set would be another $55 for a total of around $104. I set up an appointment for the next day (so much for same day service). As soon as the Precision technician arrived I knew he was a charlatan. He looked at the door and acted like he'd never seen a garage door in which one of the cables had broken. I asked him what was he so surprised about, had he never seen a garage door with a broken cable before? He said, "Oh, yea, I've seen worse." Whatever that meant. Then he preceded to take picture after picture after picture. I asked him what he was doing, and why not simply replace the cables and fix the door. He didn't answer and then he took a picture of the good cable and where it connected to the door. Then he said "Oh, that's not good." He then told me that the cables appeared to be something that was" jury rigged," I said that the cables and garage door were installed when the house was built 20 years ago and have never given me any problems. He then said that his cables would not fit my drums, which according to him we also suspect. Again, keep in mind that my house is 20 years old and I never had a problem with this garage door in those 20 years until this simple problem of a cable breaking. Furthermore, it's a cookie cutter house in a cookie cutter neighborhood and the garage door was installed by the same builder as many of the houses here. He then proceeded to inform me that he would have to replace my drums because the cables he had would not fit my drums. He mumbled about how my cables were jury rigged and my drums were too small. On and on and on. All BS. I caught him in so many blatant discrepancies in what he said I felt bad for him. He was in way over his head because he would say something, then contradict it in the next sentence. He then, after much deliberation, presented me with an estimate of $280. I sent him on his way and we both knew that I knew he was full of it. It was written all over his face. I then called another garage door repair service and told them what happened with Precision and was told that Precision should be on 60 Minutes for how they rip people off, and that he has heard my story many times before. Then new guy, from Coastal OverHead Doors, came out (same day) and replaced the cables for $103 and had no problems. He had quoted $123 on the phone but said they, unlike Precision Doors, quote high then surprise low instead low then surprise high. Precision is an absolute ripoff. I have no faith in the BBB if you rate this company an A+.
