Was a little slow in getting started as helpers did not work out so he found new ones. The work was of excellent quality in taking time to make sure the job was completed to my satisfaction. Trees were trimmed well and he kept them balanced and looking great. Clean us was not as good as expected as I had to complete some of of the removal of small trash but very little. I would use him again and have recommended him to several friends.,

JR gave me a price for removing the one tree. When I asked whether he would be willing to trim other trees, he readily agreed but suggested an hourly rate. I pointed out limbs I wanted trimmed and JR removed them as requested. He did a great job and was very accommodating. He remained aware of the hourly rate and worked quickly and efficiently, even commenting to his helper at one point, "Let's move it. She's paying us by the hour". Everything was cleaned up before he left. . I would happily have him do more work for me.

J R arrived promptly 2/22 and we worked out itemized work order. He and his crew arrived on schedule next day and went right to work in a knowledgeable manner. Likewise following 2 days. I mentioned that I'd also like him to erect purple martin housing unit and he promptly said he'd add it at no additional charge. When all work was very professionally completed I walked around area with J R and made few final clean-up suggestions and he took care of them immediately. J R is a very pleasant and accomodating person. I could not have asked for a better experience. (Delayed submission of this report is due to my own health problems and is no reflection in any way on J R's excellent service!)
Description of Work: Removal of one large pine tree and stump, another large stump, 5 smaller trees and stumps. Removal of heavy brush along entire front of home. Total removal of heavy brush in back yard fenced for dogs. Small tractor was required and used for much of the ground work.

Years of exposure to the sun had taken a toll on the wooden siding on the ends of the house. I contacted JR's Landscaping and Mr. Hicks came and gave me an estimate. We agreed and he began work. As stated above he removed the original siding, by this I mean he not only took the old siding down, but took it away. He replaced it and primed the wood as well. On the West end he also did some repair to the roof. The work was done in the time agreed and to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Replaced siding on on East and West sides of the house. This was an area of about 40' x 10 on the East side and about 120 sq ft on the West side. The West side was more challenging as the area triangula to conform to the roof line, whereas the East side was more or less rectangular. The work entailed removing the old siding, replacing with new, and priming.

I approached Mr. Hicks with my idea about reworking the backyard. I wanted something to be relatively maintenance free, i.e. no cutting, pruning, weeding, etc. Hosing and picking up pine cones would be alright. We looked at some solutions such as bark, various rocks etc. and came up with the above plan. We decide on stone size and color, and Mr. Hicks went to work. The pergola was done right after the clearing, then the rock work. There were no unforeseen problems and the work was finished on time and budget.
Description of Work: I had a back yard area of about 1100 sq ft that I wanted to make maintenance free. I discussed this with Mr. Hicks, as to what would be reasonable, but aesthetic. Looking at several possibilities we decided on a field stone patio, surrounded by a perimeter of brook stones. The original area was about 33' x 33', there would be the 6' wide border of brook stones on three sides, the center area would be field stones tying into a pool apron on the fourth side. I decided that a pergola would provide shade and act as a center for the area. A 12' x 12' pergola was constructed/erected between the clearing of the yard and setting the stone. The scope required that the "yard" be leveled (cut and filled to a degree), all plants removed (some replanted), the in ground watering system removed or reworked. then a plant barrier laid down. The perimeter was put down. At this point a subsurface of concrete was put in the center area, the stones laid out and fitted, The stones need to be reworked as they were cemented into place. A final acid wash and the placement of some fencing or plants to hide the pumps completed the project. Mr. Hicks left some capped watering points at the pergola for whatever plants might be put their to climb and shade.

J.R. came out on a Saturday morning, surveyed situation, gave assessment on scope of work he deemed necessary (pros & cons of removing large, healthy oak that was simply too close to front of house; no need to take down one in back, just trim problematic limbs). He had to cancel first appointment because someone else had an emergency come up, but he was thoughtful about calling, setting up another day. It was a two-day job taking the tree down, hauling it all away, & grinding stump. Minimal damage to one of many gardenia bushes underneath tree. J.R. is a hard worker who's good at what he does, enjoys what he does; he's knowledgeable and thoughtful about client needs. With all these trees surrounding my house, I'm sure I'll be calling him again.
Description of Work: Took down a big oak (3' diameter) standing within a couple of feet of our front porch; from another large oak behind house, he trimmed a couple of large limbs overhanging house; patched up one tree that had a hollow spot.

He arrived early in the morning on the first day and got right to work. The tree removal went faster than I had anticipated (which is a good thing). After clearing the land the next day and bringing in a load of dirt to even out the land with we found my lawn sprinkler pump was improperly connected. He wanted the dirt wet so it would soak in some and to get that done he fixed my lawn pump himself. Great attitude, hard worker, easy to get along with and gave a great overall experience.
Description of Work: J.R. removed 4 trees from my land and cleared approx. 1500 sq. ft. of my backyard from woods to dirt so I can grow grass and use that extra area as a yard.

We took bids from five local tree service companies including JR's. He bid on Saturday and was $50 cheaper than the next closest bid. He showed on time for both the bid and the tree service. Monday morning the pine tree was cut down and hauled off. It took a couple of hours from first cut to the grinding of the tree stump. I called JR purely on the recomendation of Angie's List and was not dissapointed. A little un-orthodox on the professionalism but by no means unprofessional.
Description of Work: Large pine tree in front yard was cut down and hauled off. The leftover stump was ground as well as two more stumps in the backyard.

We had a giant, almost dead, hickory tree that was standing near our back porch and was between 2 beautiful magnolias. JR climbed the tree, cut it into pieces, dropping them carefully to the ground without damaging the porch or the 2 magnolias. He also removed two large hickory trees that were dropping nuts on the house and trimmed an oversized limb from a tree that was too top-heavy and leaning onto our back porch. He also did the same thing for an out-of-balance tree in the front yard, hanging over the driveway. I asked, and he cut the wood into fireplace sized logs (of course, we had to split them) and removed all the stuff we didn't want. In addition, we had him look at several other trees we were afraid would fall during a hurricane. His recommendations in all cases was correct. Hurricane Ivan came through with minimal damage. Just small branches and a couple of shingles.
Description of Work: Huge dying tree removed from between two beautiful magnolias, plus several other trees removed.
