ACORN CONSTRUCTION

I could write a book...literally. But here are the facts: 1. Les told us it would take about 12 months, it actually took 19 months. 2. Cost me an extra 23k in closing costs and 10k in construction loan costs due to telling us it would take 12mo and going 7 months longer. 3. Les is still not done with punch list at 13mo post closing. 4. Job site supervision is via "web cam" which sounds neat, but doesn't deliver results. This is part of the issue with schedule creep. Very little in person jobsite supervision was conducted. Here is my opinion: Les is not a good communicator and struggles to keep a schedule. Take a look a the addendum to his standard contract and you will see that he takes no responsibility for any potential delays or issues. This document basically reads as a list of excuses as to why he will not meet your expectations. If you are looking for a spec build under 500k, you might be happy. Our home is not yet finished so construction has been ongoing since Feb 2013. Throughout this 2+ year process, Les has been accommodating, helpful and patient. We live in Texas and Les is building our home in Navarre, Florida. Throughout the design process, completing the electrical plan and making numerous changes, our communications with Les and our construction foreman have been great. They keep us informed and have set up a web camera on the building site so we can remotely view the work being done. Check around at other custom builders and then talk to Les. It's like night and day. Another builder we contacted would have built our first house diagram as is and didn't offer any ideas on how to improve the design, or ask us about our way we were going to use the house, or anything. Les looked at our diagram and spent the next two hours asking questions and making design suggestions.
