Description of Work: This was a nightmare. Much of the work had to be performed in our Florida vacation house when I was in New York. I could not check on everything and so I was open to misrepresentation. And that's exactly what John Flynn, the contractor did. He reported a number of "serious problems' that probably never existed, but he urged us to correct them immediately before his contract work could proceed. These corrections cost thousands, and I now wonder whether any were really needed. Being in New York, I never could check to see whether the work was either necessary or properly done. Later, after I arrived in Florida, I noticed some shoddy work (dry rot that was not replaced with new siding but plastered over) and some substitution of lower-quality materials even though high quality had been specified in the contract (especially non-Benjamin Moore paints). Also, I got increasingly suspicious when bills were padded with unwarranted charges or over charges because John said he had forgotten how much I had already paid as a downpayment. Finally, he has never completed several contracted services (painting, electric, and woodworking). The worst part was when he failed to pay sub-contractors (other painters) who did work on our house, even though we thought he was doing the work himself. These sub-contractors even attempted to put a lien on our house to secure payment. I called the county sheriff who is now working on the case since I have adequate evidence to demonstrate that we paid John Flynn in full.
