Tried to strong arm me to give him $3,000 for work he had not even done. Became rude and used foul language when i did not comply. Waited several weeks to complete the project by that time i was disgusted with him so i fired him and got someone else to complete the punch out list

Response from MANATEE TILE & MARBLE INC
I have never worked for [member name removed], period. Her boyfriend hired a contractor to remodel the bathrooms in his condo in Naples. After several months the work was incomplete, it had barely been started. The contractor had receive a large deposit for the materials which he was to have ordered, and understandably the boyfriend was very upset that work was not being completed. The original contractor, who I had known for many years, approached me about helping him with the tile work. When I agreed, he then ended up dumping all of the remaining work in my lap. When I met him to look at the job, the condo was a complete mess. I agreed to finish the labor on the project for the remaining balance of the contract amount on the basis that all of the materials were to be delivered to the site right away. As I said, the condo was a complete mess, it took me and my guys almost two days to remove the trash, and organize the site before we could begin work. At this point I expected the materials to be delivered to the site, I was lead to believe that they had not been delivered because there was no room in the garage to store them, that the original contractor had everything at his location. To expedite things, I acquired a number of items so that I could begin work. I bought over a thousand dollars worth of materials out of my pocket and delivered to the job site on the basis the original contractor would repay me (that never happened). I also brought in several other tradesmen to perform work that the original contractor had either failed to do properly, or did not do at all. These Individuals were also paid out of my pocket. The original contractor failed to deliver the materials he had been paid for in a timely manner. Had I had all of the materials, the work could have been completed in about three to four weeks time. The cabinets that the original contractor ordered sat in the garage for over eight weeks prior to my arriving on the job, when the boxes were opened they were damaged and had to be re-ordered which took an additional 6 weeks to arrive from the box store from which they had been ordered. The bottom line was that after two months time, and almost four thousand dollars I spent out of my pocket in labor and materials, I was unable to complete the work. The boyfriend called me numerous times, well past normal business hours wanting to know why the work was incomplete, each time I informed him the original contractor had failed to deliver the materials needed to finish the work. Each time he called, I asked that he contact the original contractor to find out when he intended to deliver materials. I also suggested that he, the owner, secure what we were missing so that I could complete the job. My agreement was to complete the labor only for the balance of the original agreement, not supply or secure the materials that had been paid for via the deposit to the original contractor. Had I bought all of the materials needed to complete the work, I would have ended up doing the labor for free. The original contractor had, in my opinion, spent the deposit money elsewhere, and would deliver a part or item as he could scrape together the funds. As to the reference of the $3,000 dollars, just before Christmas I asked the boyfriend for a draw against the work that I had completed to that point to recoup a portion of what I had spent out of pocket, which he agreed to. When I went to meet him to pick up the check, he offered an amount far less than we had agreed to - and yes I did become rude and shared a piece of my mind - something that I should not have done and had not previously ever done with a customer. In the end, the boyfriend decided to hire someone else to complete the work, there was about a day to a day and a half of small punch out remaining pending the last bit of materials being delivered. In retrospect, I wish that I had never become involved in the job, as it cost me immeasurable amounts of stress as well as a significant hit financially.

Overall, a 10 out of 10. They replaced and painted baseboards, installed tile, and did it professionally and quickly.
Description of Work: I had a flood at my home and my wife, child, two dogs and I had to move in with my parents. After one tile company was unable to get to me in a timely fashion, Greg and Ronnie came out in a moment's notice and knocked out 600sqft of tile in just two days. They are kind, friendly, professional, and fantastic to work with. I highly recommend this company and will certainly use them in the future.
