I contacted Jim Daudert, owner of Daudert Plumbing, as my hot water tank was leaking and I knew because of the age that it would need replacement. Jim replaced another hot water tank for me at the same property one year ago, and also did work at another home I own in the area. Jim arrived on the day/time agreed, and replaced the tank as requested. The work he did seemed good, but I was disappointed that the tank was black and not white like the one he installed last year. He told me they don't make white ones anymore. Although I wish I had known that in advance, I felt there was nothing I could do about it. He left, and I was happy with the work - until I received the bill. The same job one year ago (February 10, 2011) cost $550 for the tank, installation & removal, vs. the $725 for this installation ($650 for the tank/installation and $75 for disposal of old tank). I phoned him to discuss the bill and to understand why (1) the tank plus installation was $100 higher, and (2) why I had been charged $75 for disposal of the old tank when last year I was charged $0. I also told him that I had phoned Collier County, who confirmed that they would have disposed of the old tank free of charge if I had left it at my curb along with my other trash, with just 48 hours notice. He told me that I was lucky the tank/installation was just $100 higher because raw material costs to manufacture the tank were much higher, esp. copper, plus the labor was more complicated because of extra piping. I thanked him for the explanation, then asked him about the disposal fee given my alternative was FREE. He then became irate, told me that he took it to the dump where they charged him a fee, plus his truck and gasoline cost a lot of money. I told him that was not the point - my alternative was free, and he agreed he did not suggest that option to me. He told me he would send me a new bill with a price for the tank/installation that I would NOT like. I then told him I would pay him the $650, but not the $75 since he chose to do something that was totally unnecessary. Throughout my tone was professional, calm, and firm. He then unleased the most profane language I have ever had directed to me by anyone - he called me a "F---ing B--ch", and a "Stupid C--T" and hung up the phone. Clearly, someone who speaks to anyone that way, let alone a customer, does not in my opinion deserve to be in business. CUSTOMERS BEWARE.
