I recently ordered a monitor from an Ebay seller who shipped it from Maine. The monitor arrived in a damaged box and did not display any image when turned on. I called up ABC Electronics to find out how much it would cost to fix the problem so I could notify the seller and get UPS to reimburse the cost (it was sent insured). I dropped off the monitor on 3/17/2014 to the technician. There was no office, only a work shop which contained many TV's and computer monitors in various states of repair. The technician misspelled my address, even after I repeated it three times. He also incorrectly recorded the model number as PVM14 (its a PVM-20N6U). I was told the cost to diagnose the problem would be $20 total and that he would call with an answer by 2 PM the following day. On 3/18 1:26 PM, I called ABC Electronics and inquired about the status of the monitor. The tech said he didn't know what the problem was and that he had ordered a $20 part from Miami to diagnose the problem. I was surprised to find out he ordered a part without consulting me first. On 3/19 8:50 AM, I called to check on the monitor and the part had not arrived. I instructed ABC that UPS would be picking up the monitor at 11 AM that morning and that I needed to retrieve it. They said they would call back when it was ready. At 10:57 AM I had still not received any call, so I called again and was told they had not gotten to it and needed 30 minutes to put the case back on. They also asked me to pay for the $20 part when I picked up the monitor. I mentioned I didn't ask them to order the part, but grudgingly agreed to pay the $20. UPS arrived at 11:15 AM and I had to tell them to come back the following day. Then I drove to ABC, paid the $20, and picked up the monitor.
Description of Work: Took Sony PVM CRT-based monitor apart to diagnose a non-working display and provide an estimate for the total repair cost.

Called and asked for a service in my home, but they advised I bring the TV in to them---much cheaper. It was the correct call. I brought the TV and left it. They called and told me what need repair and gave me an estimate. I authorized the repair and they completed it on time.
Description of Work: They provided an estimate and then did what they said they would do---on time.

No don'ts. I would not hesitate to use this service again and will also tell people about the repair service.
Description of Work: The owner called me when he said he would. He was punctual, responsive and took care of the problem. It was a pleasure to do business with this person. He is not the typical repair person in Naples, Florida. He appeared to have a good work ethic which is extremely rare in Naples. Thank you Angie's list for this referral.

Charged 85.00 cash/no receipt for a service charge and 420.00 for a new TV but, the new TV was marked with a sticker "Refurbished" on the back and the original serial # was blacked out; a sticker with a new serial # was placed over it. This model TV only cost 219.00 new at Wal-Mart.He also took a TV that he had come in to fix. He called and said he could not fix the TV he never give a verbal or written estimate on the cost. A check was written for the service to him and was cashed under the name cash that he wrote in. We called him twice for the receipts; he sent one receipt stating "1 32" TV" with a price of $351 plus labor and tax totaled 419.76. The TV started not working properly within five days of installation so we called to have schedule a time for him to pick up the tv and refund the $420. We just want our money back for the TV that was not the new TV it was supposed to be. After several calls to him to try and resolve this issue, he finally said that he took my mother for her money. He said that is just the business he is in. He then refused to talk to us anymore, saying he only wants to deal with my mother. He likes dealing with the elderly.
Description of Work: General TV service call by 89 year old widow to check on a 2.5 year old $500 Sony TV that was not operating well. Told he would have to take TV back to his shop to determine problem and give estimate for repair. Charged $85 CASH and left no receipt. Called and said it was too expensive to repair but never gave oral or written quote. Told her he could get her a new TV set installed for $420 including tax, which he did on 5/4 and wrote CASH in the payee line of her check and cashed same day. He left no receipt, just the instruction booklet.

Overall it went well. This was my third experience with this company. I found two discarded flat screen TV's. A Sylvania that worked when plugged in but would turn off then cycle back on every 30 minutes. The other - a Sony - wouldn't come on at all. Turns out the Sony was not worth fixing, but ABC did say they would look at the Sylvania and address its issue of turning off and on by itself. They felt it was some loose connections that needed soldering. As is sometimes the case, the TV would not act up at the shop. I brought it home and it began to cycle on and off again. When I called, they offered to come to my home to observe it malfunction for no additional fee. I decided to return it to their shop instead. They went back in to solder more of the circuit board connections associated with the ON/OFF function. They then kept the TV in a location on their bench where they could observe it for a full day before returning it. They adjusted the picture levels which greatly improved the picture, and I've used it without a problem ever since. I paid only the originally quoted price for repairs. They are not a fancy shop by any stretch of the imagination. They have a very cluttered warehouse space with just enough room to move around the piles of electronics. They seem to be a one or two man shop, so you have to call them back to check on your TV. And because of the size of their business, they may miss a promised deadline. One extra day is the most I've been delayed by them. I've had decent results with them so far and have used them on three occasions.
Description of Work: On this occasion I needed a flat screen TV repaired that was turning on and off by itself. The repair required accessing the circuit board that controls this function and soldering the connections.

I was very unhappy with the experience. I was lied to about the shape of my TV when it was brought in for service-I had full sound and no picture and it was brought back with also no sound! The back was not put on properly (3 screws stripped and one screw was too big for the hole). The TV was not properly hooked up when brought back (since Jeff knew that it did not work the same). He (Jeff) ran out of my house as fast as he could with a raised voice saying, "I just don't have time!" Well, he had time to take my $85! I have never had such a bad experience with a repair person in my life!
Description of Work: I called ABC to give me an estimate on repair on my plasma TV, which is only a little over 2 years old. The owner, Jeff, came out promptly when I called him. I needed for them to pick up and deliver and give me an estimate. He charged $85.00 (this included the $30 estimate fee) which I thought was fair. I was not happy when he showed up in his pick up truck (with no cover) and he placed the TV face down on a few blankets and wrapped it up. He insisted that he does this all the time and he has never "had a problem". He did not tell me till the next day when he called me with an estimate that the $30 estimate fee would not go towards the repair. He told me he had informed me of this but he had not. He wanted to charge about $465 and I said I wasn't sure since that seemed expensive to me. I told him I would call him back by the end of the day. Meanwhile I contacted Costco (where I purchased the TV). They were wonderful-I was trying to get info from them to contact Vizio (maker of TV) and one manager informed me that my TV would be covered under warranty (since I used my AmEx card). I called ABC back and told Jeff this and he immediately started with this nasty attitude toward me. He said I should've known about the warranty before I called him (and I wish I did!) I told him to bring the TV back and he said he wouldn't have time today (again with a very nasty attitude). I talked with his associate Paul and he seemed to be very professional and very assuring that my TV would be brought back soon. I talked to him since Jeff was on a job-he said they would bring the TV back the following morning at 8:15. Jeff showed up with a worker, brought the TV in and sat it down. I asked him to rehook it up (cables were literally right behind the TV). He said in a very rude voice that he did not have time. He repeated this over and over about 5 times-with a raised voice. My daughter heard him from another room and could not believe the tone of voice he used. I told him when he walked in that I just don't have $500 to fix a TV and he said "Well, you had the money to buy the TV!" The picture on the TV had blown but the sound was still fine when he picked it up to fix it .But when he returned it I went to turn it on as he was almost running for the door and found I didn't have sound. Also 3 screws were missing and one screw he put in was too large for the hole! He said it was like that when he picked it up-what a liar! He didn't hook the cables up like I asked him to so I did. Still no sound! He was the rudest man I have ever met in the service industry and very dishonest, I will never use him again and hope to let everyone know to never use him. Jeff, the owner, was so mad that I did not use him for repair so he decided to bring the TV back in whatever shape he wished. I paid for the services he offered and my TV should have been brought back in it's original shape. His associate Paul seemed to be an honest guy and I have nothing bad to say about him.

Response from ABC ELECTRONICS
Some times a broken tv comes in with sound and in the diagnosis it fails also. difficult to tell customer that. The tv set is technically broken. I don't remember telling her something about buying the tv, doesn't sound like me. I have been doing concierge work for Costco for many years. I usually don't have difficulties putting the tv back together, this set may have been installed on the wall previously by someone that was not professional.. The $85 covers pickup, delivery, and estimate. The in home service charge does not apply to the repair charge. I explain this every time I collect the in-home service fee. SInce I become owner in 2001, from lead technician, I have been to mediation once. I have never had a court order against my business. Jeff
