Active Landscaping & Irrigation

I originally hired for low cost tuneup, but my system was in need of upgrades, Jen the tech made some recommendations and they all ended up improving my system as well as making it less prone to damage from my lawn guy (installing flexi hoses instead of the hard plastic already there). The cost was much more than the original quote but all was explained prior to me adding the extra work. I thin had Jen return later to upgrade my manual system to automatic (I had already bought parts but didn't have confidence to install them). The quote was fair and ?Jen did great work, now my system runs on wifi via phone, computer, etc and is super easy to control. All together I spend about 20X the original tune up price but could have been a lot more. I was really impressed with the quality of work and the overall price for what I got seemed fair.

They responded quickly and fixed the issue. While there they also checked my entire system at no extra charge. I have used them in the past and will use them again.

AWESOME, they did my backyard last year and it turned out so well we had them do the front yard this year. Very knowledgeable on what plants go where and the design was amazing! We are very happy with results and would definitely recommend them.

We moved to this house 3 years ago and knew the irrigation system had never received any TLC. We only had 2 zones working but since it covered... enough of front of back yard - we left it as is until it finally stopped working in peak of this summer. Active sent out Juan for initial check where he pointed out all the zones we had and what all had to be repaired. He answered my many questions regarding the quote and the office worked with my request to use my own irrigation timer. Juan came promptly on scheduled day and got straight to work. He found the valve system and dug out /replaced the whole thing! (i was lucky to have even found 1 valve head after all this time...) A second trip was needed to make sure Timer and sprinkler system were synced and functioning properly. (I was not home the first time to leave him access to garage). All in all, I am so thankful to finally have a working sprinkler system where all zones work. Would recommend them anytime - and loved working with Shari and Juan through all my requests. I purchased a deal from Angie's List for a sprinkler head cleaning. That happened with no problems. In conversation with the technician I mentioned we were building a pool. The extremely nice technician who came out to perform the sprinkler head cleaning mentioned I should have my system capped and have one line rerouted before the pool is built. So, I told him to quote me. When it came time to dig after permits were acquired I reached back out to tell Active to perform the work quoted thinking it'd be no big deal and they'd do as great a job with this as they did with the cleaning. Boy, was I wrong! I got a bill for almost DOUBLE the quoted amount of $325. When I called and asked why I was told I needed more coverage than my existing sprinklers were offering me. Um, ok, but I didn't ask for that. So I shared that there are now four of the approx 6-8 additional sprinklers installed (remember, I never asked for this) where the 3' deep trench the pool piping was going and they'd be destroyed. The owner sent the same guy out to remove those four, but not all because I was told I really needed the $75 rotating heads they installed for coverage, and that dropped my bill about $150. Ok, so we're now closer to $400 than we were $600, but still much more than the $325 originally quoted. I turn on my sprinklers and a neighbor tells me there's a geyser in my yard early in the morning. I turn the sprinklers off altogether because the pool dig is about to begin now. I then go walk my yard to see the pool dig and notice the re-route went from 1/2" pipe to 1/4" and...it's not buried (see photos). "No wonder the entire north side of my home has no water pressure!" I think. I run my system during the day and low-and-behold, there are broken pipes galore and I see the geysers my neighbor was telling me about. You would think when the crew was adding sprinkler heads that I never requested, and billing me for them, they'd check my lines and notice the geysers on the south and north sides of my homes. Now I know what you're thinking, these have to do with the pool dig. Nope. They were created when I had trees removed. Nothing to do with the pool dig, and if you're still following the story, discovered by a neighbor before the dig. So, I tell the owner of Active how upset I am. I want to walk my property with him. In the meantime the same crew comes out to "bury" this pipe that was not buried the first time they did the work. The owner tells me there's been a lot of rain and it washed away the dirt. No way. Look at these pictures. They weren't even buried and never have I ever had a pipe be exposed from rains. So the owner and I agree to meet at my home before work. I am extremely clear that I must leave by 8:00 a.m. on the dot to be to work on time. Our appointment is at 7:30 a.m. At 7:55 a.m. I open my garage to leave and the Active truck finally pulls up. Inside is the same crew that installed sprinkler heads I never asked for, (the same ones who didn't bury the rerouted line) - but not the owner. They tell me they'll fix everything. I exchange phone numbers with the crew lead and go on with my day. He calls and tells me the reason there's no pressure is because the pool dig must've crushed two of my control valves and they capped those to stop the leak. He's right about half of this statement: the crew digging did crush my valve and the contractor is repairing the vales. But remember, the "geysers" were discovered by my neighbor on an early morning job weeks before the dig. At this point I just want to forget I ever bought the Angie's List deal and curse myself for not doing a better job of interviewing companies to handle, what I thought was simple job, so I thank the crew lead for letting me know and for capping it. A few minutes later I get the $431.00 invoice I had been holding out on paying until the owner came over and walked my property with me, and I pay it to make it all go away. I just got the credit card bill which fired me up and figured I'd share my experience with you all. You would think I would hear back from the owner or someone at Active. Nope.

The Active team did an excellent job of converting our weed-filled, mucky-mulched yard beds into beautifully framed weedless plant sites freshly restored with new mulch. My hope is that I can keep it looking this good. They also installed a boulder-filled drainage ditch next to two walls of our house that showed signs of moisture getting into the room. I was impressed with how much was accomplished in one day by only two people. I intend to hire this company again for any future yard work that we may need.

This company performed lawn maintenance service for me for 4 weeks. It was immediately, and frequently, evident that they rushed through the lawn mowing service. I also witnessed them repeatedly, and purposely, ramming their own equipment when trying to get their mower out of the trailer. On their last visit, they caused damage to my house with their edge trimmer (picture attached) due to their negligence while operating the equipment. When this issue was raised with the point of contact at Active Lawn Care & Landscaping I was engaged with via Angie's List, they denied they caused the damage and would not claim responsibility nor cover the cost of repair. When confronted with the fact that they were rushing through the service, their response was that they were "very proud that we have remained on schedule servicing our clients providing reliable maintainable services despite continual saturated grounds that affect everything we do". My complaints both about the quality of service and the damage to my house were subsequently dismissed, even after a supervisor supposedly inspected both, and we were told to "find an alternate service". My requests for said supervisor to call me were ignored. I cannot, in good faith, recommend this company's service to anyone.

The repair person patiently spent time diagnosing the problem (two rain gauges; poor soleniod). The charge was not cheap, but was commensurate with the work/parts.

This is a VERY strange company - the people that come out and give you the estimates and also come out and do the actual work are almost always outstanding. The people who run the office are pretty much a disaster - disorganized, poor follow-up, scheduling mix-up's, lose track of orders/jobs, etc. Are polite and friendly, but poor just generally very inefficient, with poor attention to detail. You have to be willing to put up with the office to get the quality work the the technicians will do :-(

Great job from the lady in the office who set up the appt and then gave me a reminder call to the technician Juan who repaired sprinkler, made adjustments to others and advised on how to maintain system.

Employee was punctual, polite and knowledgeable. Finished job was great. This was several months ago and everything is still working well. I will call them again.

Very responsive to requests made. Awaiting for additional material because additional plant material did not meet the company's standards. Shari [Last Name Removed}, office manager, was exceptionally efficient and informative with emails. Lawn service was right on time and ready to accommodate my needs. So far I am pleased.

Great. They tested and found a couple of areas that were not working efficiently or were broken. They repaired on the same day for a great price. I've used them several times and will continue to use them for my main house and my rental house.

They completed a landscaping project for me in April 2018. I noticed in July that many of the Walters viburnums they installed were not thriving--sections of the plants were turning brown, dying then eventually the whole plant declined. I contacted them via Angie's List to see if they offered a guarantee on their plants, and the response was to call the office. I called and spoke to a woman in the office who took the information and said someone would be calling be back. No one ever called back. Since that time, almost half of the viburnums have died and I took one to the Orange Co. Agricultural extension center, and the expert horticulturist noted that it was very unusual for them to die as they are very hardy and have no pests. He determined that they were not set in the ground properly (the roots were not disturbed as is recommended) and suggested I contact the company that installed them to see if they have a guarantee. I again called, and got voicemail, left a message, but no call back. I also emailed and texted them as well as calling 2 more times. No response. I recommend not using this company. I had many issues with the install (too numerous to mention-but I did post comments earlier regarding this experience), and now they are avoiding my calls and obviously do not stand behind their work.

They were responsive and ontime; they were professional. They spent a good hour just inspecting and cleaning the system. There were several items that need parts and repair. The cost of the parts were reasonable and the repair time was reasonable. I also learned a lot - because they just didn't come and do the work - they instructed us. Definitely will use them again.

Terrific service! Techician arrived on time, introduced himself, asked questions to confirm work to be done, checked back when he found items to address and performed all necessary work in a timely manner. He also explained the work and adjustments so I would understand before we added items to the service call. Definitely woul dhire again!

Although there was more to the job than I anticipated, the work was done well.
