Disappointed in timeliness and communication. Quality of work was incredible. They used a front end loader/tractor to bring in sand for the cement foundation and drove over the water main box causing me $200.00 in plumbing repairs. Workers would show up late (9:15-10:15) the leave early (2:00-3:00). Some days and weeks nobody showed up at all and no calls from HTC to let me know what was going on. Nearly all communications were because I called them to report errors or to find out what was going on. The work quality of the construction team, electrician, brick layer and cement guys was excellent, when they showed up.

It was outrageous. They were the most expensive of any. I already have the flooring down. They were very nice. They were an A as far as coming out. They were good as far as responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. By far, it was the highest estimate. All the other pricing I got were under $3,000.00.

Rescreening of porch went well, arrived on time, did a good job. no issues with that part of the 3 part project. taking out the old shower and converting into a closet I would grade a B. Only because the metal shelves were installed with little clearance making it hard to move them out of the way for me to paint the walls. The showcase was to be the two station shower. This is a big shower, 5ft. 2in. by 7ft. The first day of construction was to take out the old tub and walls, old shower, move drain in floor and water lines. OK so far, they did not have a heavy duty hammer drill to take out the needed area in the floor slab to install the new floor drain. Next day they had the proper tool and started building. Water was moved, walls correctly put in, all no problems. Being a non standard size they had to custom build a floor pan and did so with concrete. Whoops, not enough concrete, see you tomorrow. Back with the concrete, that part done. This was all done freestyle and is not really perfect as it is a little wavy. grade it a C. Now the sheets of tile and center drain, the grout lines do not line up in several areas and the center drain trim was not square to the tile and had them resquare it. Grade that part of the job a D- . The back wall has a full length bench, as they were building it I asked that they pay careful attention and pitch it so water would run off the bench. Grade that a F, also the step in to the shower is not pitched in enough, another F. The selection of hardware for the showers was great, only problem, they ordered the wrong diverter valve, more delays and a phone call to Chicago to straighten it all out because that is where everyone was attending a workshop to replace the product they were using on my wall with another of equal quality but having a lower price. I got the higher price material and never was told they were getting a new line of material. The glass doors from their supplier were late, promised, late again and again. Finally arrives but the top rail is not correct and we have some more delays. Finally done, finished caulking and did final caulk with a clear next to the opaque that had been used. Clear is a far better look and I ask if they will recaulk to clear. " I'll get back to you on that and I agree, clear does look better." Still waiting Jose. Nice guy, full of promises, wants this to be the showcase job in the resort and hopes to get a lot of business on the project. He was to be on top of this job the whole way, it was to be perfect. No way Jose. He will have all the excuses. Still waiting for all of the warranty paperwork, sick of hearing the excuses. They sent a electrician, son of the owner of the electric company and a helper to install a ceiling fan and shower light. They arrived without anyone saying they were coming. Between Hometowns crew and me,[ having electrical knowledge] taught the two young lads how to do the job. They needed a circuit breaker and did not have one so I taught him how to tap into another breaker. Final grade, screen job A, closet conversion B, and shower, anything from a B to an F, shower overall I give a C- to a D

Salesman was very prompt and courteous. All downhill from there. Set up time for installer to remeasure doorway. He never showed up. Receptionist and installer told me he was at my home at appointed time, which he wasn't. Both proceeded to call me a liar Then wanted to reschedule 2 weeks out. I told them that was unnacceptable as it would then be over 2 months of waiting for door yo be installed

Overall the project was completed with super professionalism from the office staff, the project manager and the subcontractors. There were a few delays from weather and overbooked subcontractors but HTC kept me informed of the reasons for the delays and finished the project in a timely manner. We are very pleased with our new sunroom which has added space and value to our home. All current Florida hurricane codes were met including wind damage resistant windows and doors. HTC gave us the sunroom we envisioned with pickled tongue and groove ceiling, bead board walls, stone fireplace, tile floors and built in storage window seats on either side of the fireplace. This is our favorite place to relax with family and friends. There were some minor issues mainly the framer being overbook and delaying the project for four weeks but overall HTC and especially Amanda and Leon did everything they could to keep the sun room project from taking longer than the 90 days estimate. It actually took 94 says to complete the project. Just as they were finishing the sun room I contacted them to pour a 10'x16' concrete slab outside the new sun room and had it covered with an insulated aluminum cover. They started the second job within two weeks and it was completed in five days. There were issues in the concrete not drying quickly and the concrete mason stayed past dark to finish the slab correctly. Because of rainy weather the two man team who installed the aluminum cover came on a Sunday morning to finish the job because they knew I was entertaining twenty people for a church dinner that night and wanted the project completed. I used HTC because I had talk to one of their reps at a local church fair and had seen their advertisements on TV. Also they had won local awards voted by consumers. They are very professional and I would recommend them to my friends and family.

The workmanship was terrible. The slab cracked on the same day it was poured and continues to crack. Paul came out and gave us excuses on why it happened. In the end a minor amount was deducted from the total to make up for the horrible slab that we will have to fix in the future. The entire project was thrown together as fast as possible with poor quality. We could not turn our heads for a split second for fear. One impact door was installed with three screws until we suggested/demanded proper installation. I have pictures of every step of this project. One impact door was attached to a fir strip instead of the wall beam until I suggested/demanded otherwise. Not everything was completed according to the contract however in the end we just wanted them gone. We allowed them to deduct a portion of the unfinished work just to be rid of them. At the end of the project I wrote a letter explaining our poor experience to the owner. I noted in great detail why we were so dissatisfied. I have never heard anything in return.
Description of Work: We had extensive work done that included 22 impact windows, all exterior impact rated doors, plus adding a few windows. We also had a very large slab poured for the back patio 10' x 80'.

Everything seemed to go well until they started construction. From the day they set the form for the slab there were problems. The dimension were wrong. If I didn't catch the problem it would have been a very bad issue. The crew actually damaged parts of the house they should't have touched. They illegally wired into the houses exterior breaker panel for power. Fit and finish were/are a constant problem!!!! Parts were installed that were bent, damaged, scratched, misdrilled holes, the concrete finish was inconsistent and very rough. Caulking was incomplete, missing and messy. They would fix a problem, create another, then try to talk or caulk their way out of it only create a new problem. The work crew seemed to need constant suppervision, which didn't happen. I took off work (unpaid) 3 times to deal with issues. Communication with me and within the company was very bad. Information was not conveded from the the crew, supervisors to me and vise versa. The problem with the slab dimensions was an example of this. Problems were brought to supervisors attention and I still had to be onsite to point at the issues. They would tell me issues were fixed and they weren't. I have plenty of pictures and videos to show their work. As of the writing of this review I'm still trying to get a issue resolved. How this company won so many awards with the crew working on my project is beyond my understanding. On 12/30/13 they came out to fix a problem, AGAIN. They did no do the work I approved and install seam covers I didn't authorize and don't like, not to mention doing a poor job AGAIN!!!! No resolution at this time.

Response from Hometown Contractors, Inc.
After receiving the customers initial complaint on 12-18-13, the customer was contacted on the same day (12-18-13) and an appointment was scheduled for Monday 12-30-13 to have a crew and supervisor out to resolve any issues customer had. As requested by the customer, on Sunday (12-29-13) the customer was contacted to confirm appointment for Monday (12-30-13) and customer confirmed Monday was still good. On Monday 12-30-13 our crew and a supervisor showed up and made the changes the customer requested. The customer was not present when crew completed the service, therefore unable to confirm satisfaction or address any additional issues. Our office called the customer Tuesday at 7:02 AM the following morning, 12-31-13, and left a voice mail message to follow up and see if customer had opportunity to inspect the work and asked customer to call our office. After no return call or any communication from customer our office again called customer on Thursday (1-2-14) morning and left another message to follow up and asking that customer call the office. As of the today, we still have had no response from the customer. In order to resolve the issue and satisfy the customer, we ask that the customer communicate with our office. If we had known there was something on the project that still did not meet his/her satisfaction we would have addressed it. It is difficult to resolve an issue when you learn that an issue remains through Angie's List and a customer does not return phone calls or contact our office using any form of communication. At this point, we ask the customer to call our office and coordinate a day and time (even a weekend or after normal business hours if necessary) that customer can be home and allow crew and supervisor to make adjustments that satisfy customer.

I wanted to add 6 feet to the front of my garage and bump out a closet and utility room. This would be a much smaller job then my previous one. Paul came out and after talking to me he quoted me $30,000! I was shocked. They charged me $35,000 previously to make liveable space and now $30,000 for a garage bump?! I passed. Now because I liked HomeTown thought I would try again. A few months later and after numerous calls from the company for previous clients I called for another estimate to build a non heated/non cooled/no electric 16 x 24 detached garage in my backyard. This time someone else from HomeTown came out and again they quoted me $30,000+. I am starting to think they might have lost money on my first project and are trying to make it back. I received other estimates from other companies and just had my garage built (May 2013) for a grand total of $12,000!! Don't get me wrong, I like HomeTown with Paul and company but I just could not justify my estimates.
Description of Work: I previously (2007) used Hometown to add extensions on our house. I paid just over $35,000 for the additions. They added about 10 feet to our house, bricked it in, added concrete, etc. They did a lot of work but did not like the work hours of the crew. The crew would come to our house around 9am and leave at 2pm every day. So needless to say, the job took a while to complete. Overall, I was really happy with the job (except for the monsoon and no roof, wet laminate flooring) and the crew. This time I asked for an estimate to extend my garage.

It was excellent, the supervisor in charge was always here, and they did good work. The Coodinator (Jose) arrived on time (early, in fact) and went over the project that we intended to have done. We discussed what was necessary, how best to fix the problem and then discussed options for the roof (shingle, metal roofing, etc). The price(s) he gave "off the top of his head" were significantly higher than any we had gotten from other companies. However, he said that he would get with his boss (Paul) and go over his notes and the details of what we wanted done to ensure that we got a solid, no "fluff" estimate on the project. This, "No-fluff" estimate came from a previous job that HomeTown did for us that was a complete screw-up from the planning and logistics side.....the guys who actually performed the work did a spectacular job and we would recommend them to anyone....but not the company. The 1st job started 10 days late, took 2 weeks longer than it was supposed to and had to be re-planned by Gabe, one of the construction guys, because the initial planning was done so badly that time and materials were wasted.......and the costs passed on to us. Anyway, we NEVER heard back from HomeTown Contractors with the estimate on the roofing project. Once Jose left our home....that was it - we havent heard a word from them since. While we love the result of the 1st project they did for us, it was due to the workers efforts that it was done right and well....not the company planning & logistical folks. The Project Coodinator is not competent (in my opinion) and, based on that and our previous experience - we will never use OR RECOMMEND HomeTown Contractors to anyone.

It has been and bad experience, the have poor work ethic, sloppy work, neighbors have complained about my fence, and they have lied to me about saying they have repaired my fence, but I have pictures proving that they didnt repair anything, just put up boards to cover up the mishaps. I was promised that it would be done it 2 weeks but now it has been over a months time and the work has still not been completed. UPDATE: The issue has been resolved. The crew stayed until nine o'clock last night until everything was complete to my satisfaction. They also reimbursed me for the three days of lost work. Jamie, co-owner, was my saving grace. She was supportive, and compassionate. She made me feel like I had someone on my side.

They replaced all the windows in our home. They have a great product, great service, great people that came out to put in the windows. The only negative is that if you have a problem it is hard to get them back to look at things. It takes them a long time. It's not that they don't do it, it just takes them a long time to do it. We chose them because of the brand of the windows.

I first obtained an estimate from Hometown Contractors after reading favorable reviews of their work. A representative visited my home and walked me through the various window and door options that would meet my goal of opening up the view of the garden. The representative really knew his business in that he pointed out various options that I had not considered and candidly attached a realistic price to the different choices that I might make. When I had settled on a particular design and quality, he gave me a firm estimate and estimated that the windows would arrive in two to four weeks (two most probably). A few days later, I contracted for the work. A few days after that, an installer came to the house to accurately remeasure all of the openings and brick setbacks to be certain that the window and door were properly specified and there were no unusual installation requirements. Hometown Contractors called me to keep me posted on the status of the order and two weeks later, the door and window arrived and were ready for installation. Two very capable installers made an appointment and showed up right on time. They spread a drop cloth over the carpeting inside the openings and quickly but neatly removed the old window and door in what seemed like a few minutes. They then carefully set the new door and window in place with considerable care to be certain the installation was solid and tight (we are in a hurricane area). The workmanship was superb! Trim was reinstalled and caulked. Real attention to detail. These were craftsmen. I could not have been more pleased!
Description of Work: I had a solid exterior door and a large window with grids replaced with a clear glass panel door and picture window to expand our view of the garden

They all were very nice and friendly people. They were very helpful and we really liked that. They were very knowledgeable and explained the product really well. The only problem that we had was that the guys that actually installed the windows were not as careful as they should have been. We have laminated wood floors and while taking out the old windows the screws fell on the floor and there were dents on the floor. They were a little floppy and they were coughing around the windows, but other than that they did a good job. They were efficient. We had got several estimates but they were good with theirs.

Horribly! We had several estimates prior to choosing HTC. Although they were one of the highest priced, the sales pitch on what & how it would go impressed us. We signed the contract 26 Apr 2011 that stated work would begin in 4-6 weeks & completed 3-4 days after that. The contract stated we wanted a 26" knee wall & 60" windows. We were told we would be called to arrange a time for the detailed measurements. About a week or so later they just showed up at our door to measure...no call. Right at 6 weeks they started the process of tearing down our screen enclosure & marking for the bricklayer. I noticed the knee wall height markings were 20" in places & 21" others, not the 26". I called HTC & they came out to check it out. They changed the marking to approx 25" so the 60" windows would still fit. They put the only outlet that we needed in a certain place feet away. They had ordered 63" windows which didn't fit. The 2 seemed upset for us & stated several times "HTC will do you right & take care of you". They stated they wouldn't get paid until the job was completed. They had to re-order the windows which HTC said would take 2-1/2 to 3 weeks. I explained the need to have the room done by 4th of July. They said that would not be a problem as that was still 5 weeks away, but said they would try to put a rush on them to get them sooner.. They left everything in the yard & open room since it would only be a couple weeks. There was 2 work horses in the yard with approx. 15 feet of sharp aluminum across them & the windows were left in the open patio. Because of this delay we had to postpone the installation of the new door leading to the FL room because without the windows it is considered an exterior door requiring a $140.00 permit. About 2 weeks later we noticed the brick was cracking (see pic). We called HTC to let them know & asked about the status of the windows. They said no windows yet & they'd come look at the brick. They never did come. I called again the week before the 4th of July concerned that the room wouldn't be done before the 4th. Still no windows. We had to cancel our 4th of July picnic because the back yard was a hazard. It was over 5 weeks after the windows were ordered that they came in. They said they would be out here first thing, Thursday, Jul 7th to do the brick & windows. I questioned whether they could do both in one, but & they said they would. About 10:30 that morning I called when no one showed up. They said "we were just talking about you". They said they would be out around lunch time. I again was concerned about the brick & asked that someone from HTC come with the bricklayer. Phil Cohron (production manager) came out & saw the large cracks. He said it must be defective brick. They fixed the brick by building a second layer around the cracks (see pic). They also moved the outlet. They said they'd be out Monday, 11 Jul to install the windows. Only one of the first workers was there along with a new worker. They got most of the windows in that day & everything appeared to go good. We asked what they would do with the first windows. They said 'we already have them slated for our next job". The new worker then added "We will build the room around them & make them fit". They came back out the 12th to finish. The first worker showed up with his daughter in our back yard & they seemed to be discussing one of the windows. (we found out later he had been fired a week or so prior to showing up at our house ) We had prior plans for a birthday & had to leave them working that afternoon. When we arrived back home all the windows were in. One window installed on an angle because it again was the wrong size...a couple inches too wide. To make it fit, they had one side meet the post at the back & the other side meet the door frame at the front. We were really dumbfounded that they would think that this would be acceptable!! The new worker made the comment "well it looked straight from the inside". They knew exactly what they were doing & trying pull over on us!!! They cut out a couple inches of the door frame to make it work so that the window overhangs the brick (see pic). On the side wall 2 same sized windows were installed. They installed the middle post approx 3 inches off center. So they had to build up aluminum several inches on one side (along with over 1/2 inch of caulk - see pic) & no aluminum on the other side making the whole side look uneven. The caulking job was horrible. Not only did they use white caulk instead of clear on the brick, part of the room they failed to smooth the caulk with their finger before it dried. So they caulked over the caulk making it worse (see pic). The windows are full of scratches down to the bare metal. They said they would come back & touch them but never did. I asked about the shutters. They told me they had no order for shutters & they called the office. It turns out the sales rep failed to put the shutters on the order. The next thing we know, the sales rep is in our back yard. He comes in & starts questioning/testing us on what our 3 choices were for the shutters. Thank goodness I remembered. So he said, since you remembered we'll 'give' you the shutters! I told him to go look on his notes because I remember he wrote down the 2 amounts for the room & shutters. Sure enough it was there. We were extremely patient with all the errors, mistakes, etc. until this point. I called the HTC office extremely angry about these shutters & the statement 'we'll give you the shutters', when I paid about $2000.00 for them!! I asked Darryl, who I mostly talked to on the phone, 'so if I didn't remember the 3 choices you'd rip me off'?. His response "well, it wasn't on the order"! We hear from the workers that the owner is coming out. Apparently the sales rep asked him to because of some of the shoddy work he was seeing being done. When I described the things that had occurred, he showed no real interest nor did he really respond. He just measured for the shutters & left. As the workers were finishing up I asked if they would take bag of garbage they left & a half full bag of mortar left in the middle of our yard. The mortar had been rained on making it extremely heavy. They asked for a check of the balance. I told them I would will pay after I talk to Phil or the owner. They left the mortar & garbage full of ants. The gutter was reattached terribly with makeshift blocks to get it to go over the bricks build up over the cracked bricks, the caulk issue, the side widows that were uneven & an exposed seam on the outside that we were told would be corrected. Phil came out with the workers & did replace the gutter & fix the seam. When I pointed out the scratches & uncentered windows he took out his measuring tape & stated "it's code" & wouldn't address the issue. Phil left & the workers continued. I asked if they would please remove the mortar & garbage. They left without removing either of them. Prior to Phil coming out again, the city inspector had come out to inspect our new pool. He did a pre-inspec of the room while there & found that the space between the screws in the windows was nearly twice the amount than on the submitted plans. He said to let HTC know to fix before the inspection. I let Phil know & showed him what the inspector circled on the plans. He glanced at it & said "this isn't the window the plans show, there is nothing wrong". Phil came for the check. I told him we'd like a discount due to them not meeting the completion date & all the issues. He mentioned something about the loss of the other windows & I stated to him that the workers said they were putting them in another house...his response "they're lying". He offered a $500.00 discount. We were looking at least 10%. I made the comment that I'm sure you talked to the owner about an amount. He said he didn't & then added something disturbing "I've been on enough of these to know $500.00 is all he will do". During this whole thing I kept hearing how all these mistakes are not normal...his response makes me think it's very normal. I asked if the receipt they mail will show the amts for the room & shutters separately. He said it would.. He said he'd call in the inspection that day, Friday, 15 July. The following Thursday still no inspector. I called HTC & was told because of the rain the city inspectors were behind. I knew that wasn't true because our pool enclosure was completed Monday of that same week & the inspector came out the next day. I called them on that & they admitted it probably wasn't called in. The inspection failed as they didn't add the additional screws. The workers came out again & installed the screws. I again asked if they would remove the mortar bag. The new worker said in regards to the mortar "if it's not too heavy to lift". They left without removing it . I guess it was too heavy for them. I had two broken feet & was in casts, yet I ended up lifting it in a wheel barrel to put it in the trash. It killed the grass under it. About a week went by & no inspection for the room. The inspector came out for the final on the pool during that time & I asked if they received a call for the final on the room. They hadn't. He also said that because they hadn't put the screws in after the first time that they would be charged an additional amount for the second inspection. I again had to call HTC to get the final inspection. I received the final receipt & the amounts were not separated. I called & talked to Darryl & he said he would contact the rep & take care of it. Two months later still nothing & I called. Again I was told they would take care of it & get me the corrected receipt. It is now December & still no corrected receipt.
