Mr. Champion arrived on time and got right to work. My septic tank was full of liquid because my septic alarm wires were old and frayed and therefore causing my breaker to trip. Mr. Champion replaced the old septic alarm, installed a new sump pump and because my wiring was run incorrectly (Over the lid of the septic tank) when my house was built, Mr. Champion re-ran the wiring from the pump to the house. Note: Mr. Champion advised me that I did not need a new sump pump at this time, however, I had him install a new one because mine was reaching the end of its life. I appreciated Mr. Champion's honesty by not trying to sell me on things I did not need. I will definitely use Mr. Champion for all of my future septic needs.

James Champion which is the owner operator arrived at site and immediately found the location of the septic tank. He pumped out and gave me an education on maintenance of septic tank system. I have always had houses in the past on a sewer system. So I was at his mercy for doing the work and on time. He showed up on time and was competitive with other vendors. I liked the fact that he was the one doing the service and not an hourly employee. I wold highly recommend him to anyone for an honest and knowledgeable service.

James came and pumped out our septic tank. We were worried it was a bad drain field causing our problems but he assured us it was a maintenance issue and that we needed to get our tank pumped out every 3-5 years regularly. He was very knowledgable and I will use him again for anything septic tank related.

The first time James came out he located, inspected and pumped my septic system, it was a foreclosed house I just purchased so I did not know where anything was. He was on-time, professional and best of all HONEST. Everything went smoothly, he told me about things to watch for and estimated how long the life was left on the system based off what he saw ( I have a few years before it needs to be replaced). Another thing I would like to point out, I have never lived on spetic and do not know anything about it, so he could have taken advantage of that, but he did not and he even gave me tips on how to take care of the system so I can get a longer life out, (the Do's and Don'ts of septic systems). Then a week later, I had to have some trees cut that involved the Tree company bring a crane into my backyard, because James was there I knew the septic system was not on that side of the house. However as they were moving the crane in back they hit a tank ( that should not have been there /Gray water tank). So I called James right away and he was out there the same day. He looked at the tank and advised me that it should not be there and then provided a solution to put in a new tank that pumps the gray water into the septic tank. Then when doing that we discovered many obstacles on that side of the house ( electrical dog Fence, Sprinkler system, High Speed internet lines, Cable, etc.. ) so he had to hand dig down the side of the house and the fill length across and then back up the other side to hook this new smaller pump tank up to the septic system. So a job that should have take 2-3 hrs with is machinery, took him all day and a lot more work. But the price remained the same. All I can say is he know what he is doing and he will not take advantage of you if you have an emergency situation, and I will use him for all my septic needs going forward. Based off my experience I trust his advice and recommendations on septic matters.

I had no trouble getting through, but I called promptly at 8am before he got busy on a job. We set up the appointment for the next morning and he was here on time. He was friendly, professional and polite. He got right to work. He listened to me and answered all my questions. His phone rang many times but he only answered specific calls so he could get my job done promptly and properly. I think this was the kind of businessman our country was built on. He was straight forward, honest, reliable and kept his price reasonable when my tank was really, really bad. It was obvious even to me. It also turned out that I had two leaky toilets! He told me how to put dye in the water to identify the leaks. It worked and I've already fixed one of the toilets. Turned off the water to the other until the new flapper valve comes. I recommend this business.

Owner did work himself, was on time, and got right to work. Found several problems including a bad drain field on a home I was purchasing and closing on July 1, 2015. Since this was my first experience with a septic system, I was unable to rate the cost but considering how honest he was , took his time to explain everything to me, and sent me the official report the following day as promised I would highly recommend this provider. I called to request service on Tuesday afternoon. As promised, Mr. Champion was at my house on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Mr. Champion and Hunter located the septic tank, uncovered the openings and removed the screw-down type lids. They pumped the septic tank and cleaned the filter. The outlet pipe sections needed to be glued and this was done. The lids were repositioned and screwed back on. The openings were recovered with soil and the area was neatly leveled. During this process, I enjoyed discussing some of the history of septic tanks in the Jacksonville area with Mr. Champion, who has 24 years of experience in this business.

The toilet in my master bathroom was a bit slow and it had been about 10 years since I had my septic tank cleaned so I thought it might be a good time to do this. No emergency. I called on a Friday and spoke with James who was extremely polite and said he could come out the next day - on Saturday. I was like "wow" well it isn't an emergency or anything, are you sure??? He said no problem. He came out on Saturday right on time, did what he needed to do. Was very nice and efficient. He had a helper that was there as well. Nice to find someone in the Jacksonville area that actually answers their cell phone, arranges a time to come out so quickly and actually DOES show up. I'm impressed. Thank you!

I bought a house that was built in 1955. Within two weeks the toilets weren't flushing and I looked on Angie's List for a septic company to have the tank pumped. James Champion came out within 12 hours of initial contact. He informed me that my tank was full, the tank wasn't big enough, and the drain field was shot. I asked him for an estimate to do all the work. He then offered that this was a huge investment and that I should contact some of his competitors for opinions and estimates. He gave me the names of the "three best"! The three gave me the same opinions however, the estimates were many thousands of dollars higher. While waiting for the permit to come through, my tank had to be pumped 4 times. James came on a regular basis and offered to charge me at a discount because we were waiting. James did a wonderful job! He was courteous, fair, and a gentleman. His equipment (trucks) are always clean, he works hard to maintain the property during the process. He never left a mess! I recommend this company to anyone! He is so honest, fair, and accomodating.

I called Champion Septic after getting a $5,000 quote from another septic tank company to replace the drain field. James Champion went out the the property and noticed the municipal sewer line was nearby and advised the "right" thing to do was to switch from septic tank to sewer. I appreciated his honesty because he would obviously have no more septic tank business from me after he completed this job. He pulled the necessary permits which took a few weeks and kept me informed of the progress. My house is a rental property, and during the time span of this project the tenant abandoned the property. James closed some windows that were left open and had some trash removed from the back yard. That was appreciated as i live several hundred miles away. The work was performed excellently and in a timely manner. James was always available for questions and was very honest and professional. I highly recommend Champion Septic.
Description of Work: Converted house from septic tank to municipal sewer. Work performed: 1) Pulled all necessary permits for sewer tie in; 2) Pumped septic tank for abandonment; 3) Properly abandoned septic tank by permit; 4) Installed new 4" pipe from house to sewer with 2 clean outs, 1 by house and 1 by street.

I had arranged to meet with Champion at a home I had recently purchased. I wanted to make sure all major systems were in order so I could prioritize the work needed on the property. I was called by James approximately 20 minutes before our per-arranged meeting. He indicated that my well lid was cracked an it looked like the sidewall had caved in. This was devastating but since I was in a meeting I was unable to address the issue with him at that time. He indicated since they couldn't pump (for fear of the lid breaking) he would only charge me $125. I gave him my credit card information over the phone. I had 5 other providers for different services scheduled for approximately the same time. Once I had worked with them I gave James a call back. He was professional and sympathetic. He had grave concerns about my ability to get a septic system installed with the size of my property and the location of my well. After James' visit I spent some time running water and look at what he had indicated was my semi collapsed septic system... It just didn't make sense. If it was an open septic system it would seem like I should hear the water entering. I got down in the hole and looked into the open side - there was no moisture. Based on that and the fact that James had painted such a dire picture I decided I needed a second opinion. I contacted a company that was referred by a friend. They came out and initially came to the same conclusion as James. They explained that since the existing septic would need to be pumped prior to collapse that they might as well continue with the job. Upon removing a couple of inches of dirt they discovered something even more disturbing - there was no cement lid. The opening was covered by what appeared to be mostly wood and some cement. They quickly concluded that the partially collapsed structure was a french well. After some head scratching and searching they located the actual septic system on the far side of the property. After digging several feet they reached the lid which was intact, opened it up and determined that it was empty (property had been unoccupied for some time). As a result of James' diagnostic I put all work on the property on hold and incurred an additional expense to do the work I had requested of him. I contacted James and requested a refund - he did not feel it was warranted. If you know the location of your septic system and know that it is in good condition Champion Septic may be the company for you for a simple pump out. Otherwise I'd recommend you continue your search.

To whom it may concern, I was called for a septic inspection at 9846 Highland Ave Jacksonville FL 32208 for (Member name removed). I got to the property with the A/C contractor waiting for entry. The privacy fence was broken down so we proceeded into the yard to begin our work. Doing a septic inspection is a time consuming task. Upon entering I located the tank outside the bathroom window which is very common with these older homes like this particular one. The tank I found was deteriorating and caving in. As I was digging the tank was in such an unstable state that pieces were falling in. Due to not being structurally sound I called Mr. (Member name removed) to inform him of what I had located along with a recessed spot in the pavers in front of the tank (between tank & home). The drain field I found was running between the well pump and out building. Mr. (Member name removed) asked my suggestions and thoughts of repair. I informed him that the tank was not sound needed replaced and that the health dept. would make him hook to city water with this lot being small. At the end of our call I told Mr. (Member name removed) that I was only charging him for a service call instead of an inspection due to what I found not being up to code, inspection fee is $395.00 and service call is $125.00. Over the next few days Mr. (Member name removed) and I communicated by email thru Angies list and my personal email which I told him that anything I could do to help I would. On 14 Oct. 2014 he emailed me thru Angies List requesting a refund because he had another company out to dispute what I had said. I then responded to him saying that I only charged you a service call fee which is standard for coming out to a job. This was also stated on his invoice that I emailed him. His response was we all make mistakes how we handle it is what makes the difference. If Mr. (Member name removed) thought I made a mistake he should have talked with me about it because I stand by my work I think my record speaks for itself. Thank You for taking the time to review this matter, James Champion

James did an excellent job. He was honest about what was required and how much it would cost to get the job done. He was punctual and showed up on the promised start date. He did not start work for about 10 days after I gave him a deposit, but he explained in advance that he could not start the work until the city approved the permits. I had a very small area that was available for the drain field, but James worked with the city to get a special exemption for the easement requirements. James is a busy man - all the best people are. I had to wait a couple of days for an appointment when I first contacted him, but the wait was well worth it. He kept me apprised of any issues he ran into and worked to resolve the unexpected surprises beneath the soil. When the job was over, I had a slightly raised area that looks like the natural topography. I definitely recommend him for any septic work you have.

My bad experience with Champion Septic; my initial phone call to Champion Septic was early on a Saturday, and I got a phone message stating they were busy assisting other customers. No problem I thought, it was Saturday after all, and maybe they have a limited staff outside of normal business hours. So I left a message asking for a call back to set up some septic service. The day wore on and still no phone call back, it was beginning to get close to 5pm so I called back again and received the same voice message, and had to leave a second request for a call back. It wasn?t to long after my second attempt to speak to someone that James called me back. The phone call seemed to go well and although we had to schedule the service out a few days to be conducive to both of our schedules, we were able to agree for service to be done early Thursday. So Sunday and Monday went by and during that time I had spoken to my neighbor, and he decided that he wanted his septic tank serviced when I was to have mine done. I thought to myself how nice this would be for James to earn the extra business with no valuable time used up for travel. So I told my neighbor I would give Champion Septic a call and make sure there would be no scheduling problems caused by the extra time he would be down our road. I felt confident I would speak to someone when I called, seeing that it was a weekday and within normal business hours. Well I got that phone message again stating he was busy assisting other customers, I started to wonder how these other customers were getting through to be helped and I had not, hmmm. Well I left another message letting him know that I had a couple of questions concerning my septic and to find out if he was going to be able to schedule my neighbor as well. Guess what, the day wore on and no call back. 5pm began to approach but I knew from my Saturday phone message experience that when he did actual call back it was later in the day, and I did not want to bother him with another phone message so I did not call back. Well the day ended with no call back. Because of that I was unable to tell my neighbor for sure if he was actually scheduled to be serviced or not. I told the neighbor to hold off before he called another septic service company, and that I will try to contact Champion Septic again in the morning. I wanted to give James another opportunity to earn the extra business. So the next day (Wednesday) I called again, and guess what, yep you guessed it, I got another voice message. But it get worse, this time the messages says ?We are no longer accepting phone calls, sorry for any inconvenience? What!! Now I starting to wonder if he is even going to show up for my scheduled appointment, let alone be able to service my neighbors as well. So when I heard the beep I left a message asking for a courtesy call back to let me know if my scheduled appointment is still on and if they are even still in business. (Seeing the trouble I had been having getting a call back and now this latest message did not make me feel comfortable with the stability of the business.) Well let me tell you it wasn?t long that I hung up the phone after leavening the message that I got a call back from James (weird that he was able to call me back so quick, why was he not able to respond like that with my other phone messages?) I quickly found out why the return call was so quick, he was very mad at me and he let me know it! He was upset that I would somehow assume that the reason he could not take phone calls any more was that he might be out of business. I was utterly puzzled at his poor arguments and unprofessional demeanor. Here I thought he was going to apologize for not returning my prior calls in a timely manner. Well needless to say the phone call (although cordial enough) did not get any better and really made no sense at all, that is until he made this statement: ?I think it would be best if you called someone else to service your tanks?. Now that made perfect sense, and we followed his advice and did just that. We called AA Septic, who was actually able to answer my phone call, and were able to come out the very next day to service both my tanks and my neighbors. They were also less expensive. So I would advise you, the reader, to take that same advice given to me from Champion Septic: ?I think it would be better if you called someone else?!

Thank you member for your review as I tried to explain to you your appointment was set for 9 am the next morning when we last spoke, but that WAS NOT good enough for you due to the message that I had due to being so busy. You failed to mention that you were argumentative due to my message, due to your attitude along with the language you were using I did tell you that it was better that you call someone else for your service. Also I reported you to Angie's List after our phone conversation since your attitude was so poor. I believe in good customer service and I stay very busy because I give good customer service. James

Not honest in time it took to get permit, so 3 weeks later my tenants (6 people) were still w/o a septic system. Later learned that the permit could have been obtained in 2 days, fired them, got a partial refund, hired another company to do the job; that company had the permit and completed the job w/in 4 days at a better price. Lesson learned.
Description of Work: Agreed to remove old septic tank and install new one.

Thanks member for your review even though you are mistaken, I did pull your permit and that is ALL that I did for you. Your property is in Duval County and I tell all potential customers that it takes approximately 3 weeks to get a permit due to size and backlog of such a large county. Also the deposit that you paid is the same that every other customer pays and received a REFUND less the inspection and permit fees the fee that you posted is inaccurate. Also you were trying to use your position at the city to have work started before permitting which is illegal. I do apologize that we could not satisfy your needs.
