The Grove Handyman is a family owned business with well over 50 years of experience. We control our quality of work by staying small. All jobs will be overseen or handled by company owner Roger Camacho.
Roger and his crew worked very diligently. Cannot even tell the items were removed as the restoration of walls and ceiling were done perfectly. Have hired him again to do more work!!
Description of Work: Removed and demolished a non load bearing column in living room and patched ceiling. Removed large built in bar and did carpentry work to replace mouldings and repair walls. Removed granite surrounding washer and dryer and built platform to raise them. Hauled away all trash and debris.

I have been on Angie's List for over a decade and can tell you after speaking with Roger, I know that he will be our handyman on our future projects. Read the reviews, speak with him and you will see why you should be using The Grove Handyman.
Description of Work: I agree with most of the reviews here, Roger was a very knowledegable and personable person. I called him as my wife and I were having a disagreement about whether or not to call someone else who had done work for us before.

'm writing a review because I was surprised by the lack of professionalism when I called this company. I contacted them wanting for someone to come to our house to give us a quote. The person who answered the called simply said they are booked for the next two months and "thank you for calling". I'm very surprised they were so indifferent instead of telling me they are booked for the next two months, but would be happy to 1. give us a quote and complete the work later, or 2. come to our home in two months when they have availability. Not a very good first impression.
Description of Work: Nothing because I didn't even get to describe what I needed done.

When you start off on a journey of home repairs finding a reputable honest company to work with can be mind boggling and frankly, quite daunting. We decided to check out Angie's List and see who had great ratings and was in our area. The Grove Handyman seemed like an obvious choice, and after reading the reviews we called Roger to come in and assess the situation and provide us with a quote. We immediate liked Roger's personality and honesty... He told us that our fence was in good shape so he did not recommend replacing it, rather pressure washing, adding a fence topper and stain would give us the look we were after. The quote wasn't cheap, but it was fair and after consulting with a couple of other companies, we decided to go with the Grove Handyman, and we couldn't be happier. Not only did they deliver what they promised, they also were kind, professional and super neat and clean! We will definitely be using them again and have recommended them to all of our friends and family already.
Description of Work: Roger and his team added a fence topper to our existing fence. They also pressure washed the fence and stained it.

He claimed he would paint the flat portion of my roof with lanco elastomeric and the shingled portion with behr elastomeric. On day one, it rained whilst they were painting. There was no re-painting of the area. They picked up where they left off and stated they would 'reassess' the area and paint whatever was needed. Again, I was under the impression that my roof was being painted with elastomeric paint..that was until I had decided to add another coat to the roof at a later time. When I looked at the containers of paint he used to know which ones to buy, they were behr. Only problem is they were behr acrylic all purpose, not elastomeric (2 completely different types of paint with the acrylic not doing any of what the elastomeric is purported to do). I texted him and provided photo proof in hopes he would call back, clarify, and fix the issue. When he called back, he asked me 'what's the problem now?' He then proceeded to tell me that I had bothered him enough, that he had already done more than enough, and was overall extremely insulting and aggressive . He then told me I could 'write whatever I want.' Mind you, I paid this guy $2400.00 to paint my roof. Mistakes happen, and that is okay. But when they are dealt with in this fashion, there's not much left to be said. Do business with the grove handyman at your own peril. Not only is the owner of this business, Roger Camacho, thoroughly unprofessional, but he is insulting and arrogant as well. His employee David, on the other hand, is a very congenial individual who was extremely helpful.
It has been a pleasure working with The Grove Handyman?s crew. Our kitchen floor needed structural repair from old water damaged joists. We contracted them for the entire job including removal of old floor and damaged pieces and reconstruction so kitchen would be prepped for new cabinets and appliances. The initial plan was modified as new things were discovered along the way. We initially had planned to install porcelain tiles in the new kitchen floor extending it to the adjacent Florida room. When removing the tiles in the Florida room we discovered the original hardwood floors underneath. We decided to maintain the hardwood floor, which meant repairing it, sanding and covering it with polyurethane. While working on the kitchen floor, we discovered a leak from the adjacent small bathroom that had damaged the bathroom floor. We decided to fix the bathroom leak, replace the floor and replace the wall tiles on the small bathroom. Roger responded our first call right away, met and discussed with us our needs and presented us with a detailed proposal immediately after that. He gave us a date when he could start the work and a very good estimate on date of completion. He and his crew showed up on the agreed date and worked consistently until work was finished meeting the deadline. We appreciated their flexibility as new discoveries were found and new work decisions were made. The crew worked very well together, they were very pleasant, friendly, courteous and skilled, and very conscientious of keeping things clean in the midst of construction. Roger would always discuss options with us whenever decisions had to be made and gave us great suggestions. The flow of communication was great and allowed the work to move smoothly forward. The work was finished on time and ready for the day appliances were delivered and cabinets installed. We are very satisfied with the quality of the work and the manner in which it was delivered. We highly recommend the Grove Handyman and would definitely call him again for any work needed in our home. Thank you for a great job and a pleasant experience.
Description of Work: The nature of the work included demolition, structural floor and wall reconstruction, carpentry, electrical installation, plumbing repairs and re-route of lines and installation, fine carpentry (original wood floor repairs), wood floor recovery (sanding, polyurethane), laying floor tiles in kitchen and bathroom, fine masonry on the bathroom walls, painting.

Roger purchased the wood I wanted from the lumber yard, carefully selecting boards without defects. He and his assistant Alex arrived with the wood at my house. Using clean hands, they lifted my mattress and boxspring off of the bed. Then Roger measured the distance between the siderails of the bed for each of the new slats. The fit was excellent. They cut each board outside and carefully sponged each one to avoid bringing sawdust into the house. They used clean hands to reposition the mattress and boxspring back onto the bed.
Description of Work: Roger made me new wooden bed slats to support my new mattress and boxspring on a colonial-style maple bed.

I had a partial remodel in progress from a previous GC who I had to remove from the project because of slow/no progress on the work (too busy on other jobsites). I interviewed three companies to do the work mentioned above and I chose "The Grove Handyman" after the owner, Roger, came to view the site and not only offered helpful suggestions on how to proceed but also noted some of the errors that had to be addressed to properly construct the repairs/remodel. Errors, I might add, that had been seen by other contractors but had not been addressed pre-estimate which would later lead to glossing over the problem or stopping work to ponder how to fix it - solutions that would later cost more money or time to be wasted. Example: An original kitchen sink iron ventilation pipe had been installed in such a way that it caused the wall to bulge outward, something that had not been addressed by previous installers except to add massive amounts of caulking or plaster to prevent the cabinets from wobbling at the cost of being off-center from parallel levels to the wall - definitely not the correct way to repair the issue. Roger noted all visible errors and their solutions (usually multiple solutions to any problem) and I was so taken by his thoroughness and knowledge that I contacted him prior to his estimate knowing that I would be hiring him price unseen. It was the best decision that I made regarding the project(s) completion and leads me to describe "The Grove Handyman's" work in two words: Quality Professionals. The members of Roger's crew are well versed in specialized skill sets as well as general knowledge of multiple facets of construction. They are experienced and practiced individuals who work quickly and independantly of supervision as opposed to other less competent staff. Make no mistake, these are well-versed artisans who work efficiently, cleanly and with a plan. There was also someone on site to work every day until the projects were completed, something that should be the norm and expected but, as anyone who has hired contractors to work a project will know, can be a hit-or-miss experience. Their work is not finished until Roger asks of the user: Is it to your satisfaction? Are you happy with the work that has been performed? Only then will he light up a victory cigar (literally) and move on to the next assignment. I have no hesitation in highly recommending "The Grove Handyman" to work on any and all jobs. In fact, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you live in the Grove, Gables or South Miami area and you did not at least call this company to look over your project to provide a quote and some insight on how best to proceed. I will (and have) endorsed them to several neighbors already and will continue to hire them without any other secondary evaluations for several other projects I have lined up in the future.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen demolition (including widening an opening and consequently strengthening it since it was a support wall, removing and walling-up an outside door, removing/adding damaged furring strips, drywalling two walls and adding texture to match on all four walls and the ceiling), removing and re-building a wooden termite-damaged storage loft in the garage, re-opening a doorway and installing an outer door in the concrete block wall of said garage, removing a built-in bookshelf from the den/office, adding a new one in the same place and drywalling the entire surrounding wall that had been covered with outdated formica (and of course, subsequently plastering that wall in a textured look to match the surrounding area).

They responded quickly to my Angie's List request and stopped by for a free estimate. We briefly discussed the project and they explained to me how much tile I needed to source as well as other details like wall plates, etc. We originally thought the project would take 2 days, but we decided to an extra portion of the kitchen with leftover tile and they were able to stay an additional 2 days to complete it and gave a fair on the spot quote. The quality I think is very high and the tile was cut very precisely. It makes a huge improvement to the aesthetic of the kitchen. The team was friendly, professional, punctual, clean. I would hire them again in the future for similar work.

I have only good things to say about The Grove Handyman. The job was performed in 6 days, from demolition through finishing and painting. The house looks like the ceiling has been there forever - not a clue it's been repaired. It looks good. Positive points: showed up early and worked all day; cleaned the house from that day's construction before they left for the evening; used protective coverings for other surfaces while they worked; obtained paint that matched the existing walls; details taken care of - nothing left half-done; the team worked together with a positive attitude and each worker seemed to care about the project and the qualify of the work; they reported to me any findings on the house that they noticed to be sure I was aware of them; always respectful and kept me abreast of progress; time estimate was accurate; no upset throughout the job.
Description of Work: Repaired/reconstructed ceiling in living room and kitchen after water damage in attic caused collapse. They demolished the remaining portion of the ceiling; prepared the existing structure for the new ceiling; rebuilt the ceilings in both rooms. The attic also had extensive water damage and the wood floor in the attic was replaced.

We have owned several houses throughout the years in both New York and Florida so we have experience with contractors. Roger is extremely professional. He picked up our original phone call in a timely manner and set up an appointment promptly. He showed up on time and prepared to work with us on finding practical solutions to each of the items we needed to complete. We asked him to provide an estimate and by the end of the day, we had one in hand along with a start day and end date barring any unforeseen problems. Roger came prepared to work with his employees. Matt, Joe and Alex worked seamlessly. The work was done sequentially and at the end of each day, the team cleaned up and left things ready for the following workday. They worked well together and efficiently. Roger was here in the beginning and handed off the work to the team but checked in throughout each day. By the end, we knew we found a new friend in Roger and are looking forward to our next project together. Our husky, Kai, is also looking forward to the return of Roger and the crew since she enjoyed their attention!
Description of Work: We gave Roger a punch list of items both indoors and outdoors that either needed to be repaired or completely constructed. Among these items were fixing a shower stall; closing up an opening in a bedroom wall; creating a usable opening for a master bedroom closet; restoring an existing wood fence and finding a solution to prevent our husky from finding a way out of our yard.

I can't explain how great Roger was! Not only did he reply to my initial inquiry in a timely manner, but he was at the unit within a couple of days (which completely worked with our time frame) to repair EVERYTHING! Roger bills per hour, and this sometimes can be a bad thing. However, Roger and his team worked quickly and efficiently and finished everything in less time than I had anticipated. Pricing was also explained up front so that there were no surprises or obligations at the end of the job. We already have another repair scheduled with Roger, pending the parts arriving and he is now my go-to person for repairs.I HIGHLY recommend calling him. Thank you so much for your help with everything, Roger!
Description of Work: 1. Front door lock and knob were tightened and secured 2. Sliding glass door handle locking mechanism was repaired 3. Guest bathroom toilet flushing mechanism was replaced 5. He was generally nice. The only thing was that his quote was expensive compared to the person who came before him. He gave us an estimate of about $900. Somebody else would have done the same area for $650. That was the difference. They came, they were wearing clean clothes, they came on time, and they spoke to us. Except for the quote of the labor, everything else was fine even if I did not hire them.

Description of Work: He was punctual in coming to the house as agreed. Inspected the damage in the house subfloor structure in the crawl space and provided me with a quote 3 days later. His quote was very detailed as requested and the breakdown of cost of materials and labor for each activity quoted was well stated. Roger came out with an assistant to go over the various repairs I needed. He was punctual and he and his assistant looked at everything I needed and took photos where necessary. He then sent me a professional proposal with itemizing the work to be done. We agreed on a date and he and 2 helpers came and performed all the listed tasks properly. They were organized and cleaned up after their work as well. Am going to use him now for another new small job as well. He has been a pleasure to work with.

[Member name removed], We thank you for your business and look forward to working for you in the close future.
He and his dad worked together and they are very nice people. They are good people, responsible and trustworthy. They were very good about meeting our needs. Compared to other's his price for baseboards was good, but the price for the windows was way too much. That was a little frustrating. They came in around 8 and 930 in the morning and left by 2, and worked slowly, so it took two and half weeks to finish the baseboards. But despite the time frame, they were very responsible and cleaned up after themselves. The knockdown texture was also not up to my standards. But they did do a very fast job on the windows, in just two and a half days. Unfortunately, one of the windows did not get finished. There is an issue with the back door frame that was replaced, it is not hanging straight and the weather strip is not sealing properly. This is an issue for a brand new door, however they did say they would come back out and fix it. We would consider using them again, depending on how the rest of the project turns out.
Description of Work: Baseboards, window trim, back door replacement.
