He looked at the job. Made a few comments. Said he paid attention to detail and that he would call me the following Monday to give me an estimate. He never called. I called him. He said my job would cost $20,000 but provided no details and nothing in writing. I thanked him. I would not try to pursue it further because he didn't seem to be interested in my job.

They worked very clean and diligently. I liked Matt from the our first meeting because he was very polite and professional. I felt he was someone i could trust with my home. Overall i was very impressed with his services and workmanship.

I contacted Matt because of his high recommendations on Angie's list and asked him if he wanted to bid on a flooring and drywall job that my house needed. He came over took a look and sent me a bid. He then sent an email telling me was not going to be competitive on the floor but that he could separate the bid for the drywall and he could give me a good rate. I then had the house re-mediated for mold and told him to come back to the house and take a look again if he wanted to bid because more drywall had been removed. He came over, went all over the house, took pictures and then proceeded to send me an email later with his bid. He told me the job would take about a week. I had a few people bid for the job and they were all very close but chose Matt as I saw a young entrepreneurial guy and wanted to support him. BIG MISTAKE!!! He showed up the first morning with three of his workers and was not at all educated, hardly said good morning and walked right in to show one of his guys what they needed to do and then left quickly. The workers spent the day working on and off and then left that afternoon. I honestly did not see much done that day. The next day they came in and worked through the day until the afternoon when one of them came running to tell me that they had broken a copper water pipe and that I needed to shut off the water because it was making a mess. Mind you I just paid thousands to have the remediation for mold performed because my daughter is very allergic.(which Matt had been told). The water ruined part of the work and went through to the first floor where it started to come though the ceiling on the first floor. I told this to Matt and got no reaction. Later his father or as he calls him (his foreman) came over and saw the damage to the pipe and said he had to get some material and would be back to fix it. I told him that I wanted the same type of cooper pipe so that I have no issues with it in the future. The father returned and said that it was Friday afternoon ("or weekend") already and said he would use a coupling which was very good and that Matt would fix it properly when he came the next day. Well it turns out that Matt told me he was not coming Saturday and nor were his people, that thy would return on Monday at 9;00 AM. Well Monday came and I got a message from Matt that his daughter was sick and that he was not going to make it. I asked when his men will come and he said they were not coming. Then the issue went really bad. He started to say that he had miscalculated the amount of work that was involved and that he was not going to loose money. He said that he was thinking that he better stop the job right there. I reminded him that we had an agreement expected him to honor it to which he repeated that he was not going to loose money. He said he needed about an extra $1000 to finish the job. Bayside ct, CoconutAfter a few words he decided that he would go the next morning which was today. He came over with two people this time and went over the house quickly. I told him he needed to fix the pipe which he refused to do and told me it was fixed already. This was really upsetting to me and it shows the type of irresponsible individual he is. He then insisted that he was going to need more money to which I said that even though we have a written agreement I would be willing to buy some material to help. He left and the two men got to work. I found that they had installed the wrong drywall in an area that could get wet, where they are supposed to use the green drywall. The men told me that Matt had not provided them any. I wrote a message to Matt which he never replied (another thing he does). After the men left that afternoon, I got a call from Matt telling me that he was already loosing some money and that he was not going to continue that way. To that I just reminded him again that we have an agreement , which he does not see that way and is not honoring at all. He is not going to continue the job. He left the job after getting $1500 from me. He is an irresponsible bad mannered individual and should not be in the business that has to talk to clients. I recommend anyone reading this to be mindful of this guy trying to get the jobs and then trying to raise the agreed price in the middle of it. I have never encountered such blatant disregard for agreements as his (ABSOLUTELY NO HONOR). He is terrible. I want to see go ahead and lie trough this one Matt. Remember that I have your emails and messages. I was going to let this ride as the guy shows absolutely no class, he doesn't only lie but calls the clients lyres. I went back to read some more resent reviews and saw that he has been up to the same old habits of changing the price quoted after he starts a job, and then he leaves with the money he received at the start without performing the job. That is why I am updating this a bit, not because I care of what a lier like him states in his absurd reply. Thank God We had good people come in right after you left, you were the only awful guy we had at the house. I just truly hope the readers of Angie's list take the time to read all the F's you have been getting particularly in the last 12 months. Angie's list should delist you!

We did not get the work done.

Matt is very professional, punctual and honest when it comes to his work. He is someone you can count on. Will use him again in the future.

Called him, since he advertises his area of service as "..Sunny Isles, Aventura, Golden Beach, East Hollywood, Portions Of Ft. Lauderdale.", but he says he doesn't do Hallandale Beach, which is sandwiched in between all those communities. Matt, if you're not going to work those areas, don't say you do on your listing. Again, nothing against his work or professionalism, but he shouldn't advertise service in areas he doesn't really do.

He arrived on time and gave me an estimate, I agreed to the terms and was fully satisfied.

We have used Matt's services before and have always found him to be very diligent in all aspects of his work - It is a pleasure doing business with him. He is a #1 in our opinion.

The service turned out fine. They did a good job.

Contacted Matt in early June 2012, he came out and gave price immediately. I waited weeks with no further response. Leak became much worse and ceiling began falling in. I shut off water to the house on Friday June 29th and called Matt to tell him the situation. Matt came out 4 days later, July 3, I gave him a $500 deposit, he cut a hole in the ceiling to access plumbing and left. Matt and his father came back 2 days later, Thursday July 5th looked at the situation and said they'd be back tomorrow, Friday, July 6th. Matt called later to ask if they could change it to Saturday, July 7th, I said OK. They didn't show up on Saturday and did not call to explain. A Plumber showed up on Monday July 9th, changed the toilet flex connector which I supplied after I found that it was the main source of the leak and he installed the 2 kitchen faucets but did nothing with the exposed ceiling pipes. I called Matt at 5pm to ask if plumber would return tomorrow to finish. Matt abruptly said he'd call me back and hung up. He never called back. I called and emailed him around 9:50pm with no answer or response. I called him the next morning, Tues., July 10th at 8:12am and told him to finish the ceiling plumbing and patching and forget the rest of the work. He called back to say the plumber will be there tomorrow, Wed., July 11th at 9am but he needed more money. I was totally fed up with him but I still had a large opening in my ceiling so we renegotiated the price to $750 and forget the rest of the job. Matt tried to explain that he was really a Contractor and not a Handyman and that he usually does much larger jobs and was busy with other customers. I pointed out that his listing was under "Handyman" and at the time, he went by "Matt the Handyman" and that he shouldn't have taken on the job if he wasn't going to do it right... A very poor explanation. He did finish patching the ceiling. The whole ordeal was very unpleasant and I would not recommend him or use him again. PS. The 10% discount coupon for Angie's List customers was denied from the very beginning. In response to your response, shame on you!. From the beginning, I told you that the work was for my parents, not me, but I live across the street and was available for any questions you might have. When you text-ed me I called you back immediately; once to discuss which ceiling pipes would need replacing and once when your plumber couldn't install the water filter on the kitchen sink. Yes my mother is elderly (86 not 100) and far from feeble, but that is not the point. I was always available and have the emails and texts to prove it. Shame on you! And you lie again about the money! The original contract was for $1,200 and we gave you your requested deposit check for $500 on July 3rd the day you started. We also printed the remaining $700 check in anticipation of paying you promptly because we were hopeful you were going to finish the job quickly and we wanted to be certain there would be no delays getting the bookkeeper to cut the check. We were really hoping that you were going to work out because, as you and I discussed, my parents would need ongoing reliable handyman services. The day you finished you got paid the remaining $250 and you call that "the complete run around to avoid making a payment"? Shame on you!! The only run around was you not showing up. Don't you dare say that you didn't show up because you didn't get paid or needed more information from me! The job went bad because you were busy on other jobs, which happens, but instead of taking your criticism professionally you decided to blatantly lie. Everything I stated in my original comments was completely factual and I tried to keep the tone professional. Everybody occasionally has a bad job and you have not handled this one well. I decided to check with the Florida Dept of Professional Business Regulation on your stated status as a Florida General Contractor, License # 1516436 and your name is not associated with that number (Active Builders Inc. - CGC1516436). On your website (Bestcontractormiami.com) you also portray yourself as a General Contractor. If you are affiliated with a licensed GC than great. If in fact you are not a licensed GC, you probably should not pretend to be one. There is no shame in being a handyman and you obviously have made many people happy. Unfortunately, I am not one of them.

I sent emails as instructed to explain problem and never received a response.

We contacted Matt Mara shortly before the Holidays to wall-mount a large-screen TV, as well as run the necessary electrical wiring and AV conduit so as to hide the wiring and other connections. Matt showed up promptly to assess the project scope and provide us with an estimate, which initially we thought was a little expensive, clearly not realizing the complexities involved. The work was scheduled for the first weekend in January. Matt and his assistant showed up as scheduled at 9:00am on Sunday morning. The work involved cutting channels in the wall to run the electrical wiring and conduit; installing a new electrical outlet behind the wall mounting bracket; coming up with a creative solution for running the AV conduit to tie in with the cable box and other media devices located in a cabinet below the TV: mounting the bracket and TV; and finally patching and plastering the wall. The work took approximately 7 hours to complete without any rest breaks. Matt took great care to prepare the work area to protect the wood floor and furnishings as well as in cleaning up once the work was done. The quality of his workmanship is precise and meticulous and worth every penny of his fees. We highly recommend Matt and will definitely be using his services for future projects.

overall it went great, he was easy to contact, he was on time and his estimate was very reasonable

It went very well. We set up an appointment. Matt showed up on time and with all his materials in tow. He put down tarps so as to contain any debris. Matt is not a talker. He sets up and goes right to work. He is very neat both in his work and when he is done, he cleans up after himself.

Matt was very professional from the moment we spoke. He showed up on time and was very good at communicating what needed to be completed. Matt and his crew would always clean up after themselves and used plastic or drop cloths. I have dealt with many contractors and must say, I was very impressed with this guy. Many issues came up throughout the course of our remodel but Matt and his crew managed to resolve it. Will definitely hire again!

Can't even get a call back for a quote.

He gave good advice about what to order for this older home with specific needs and was pleasant to have around. Neat and clean. His female plumber was excellent. We did the ordering of custom made vanities. It might have been more efficient to have the contractor do it. But we got exactly what we wanted. He had to improvise to install the pullout shelf in the vanity, but was able to contact the cabinet company to get advice.

Called to request a quote appointment and left Matt a detailed message 2 days ago - still waiting for a return call.

Very pleased with the outcome. Definitely recommend.

The overall experience with Matt and his company was very good due to a crunch time i had to reopen rooms before company arrived for holiday weekend. The work was good from his father and plumber, only problem at times was the communication between Matt , myself and his dad. But the matter was solved after speaking with Matt himself. I will defintely use Matt's company again for any other future projects for they have one my trust and business. Thanks Again! Rey

There was some miscommunication as to the confirmation of the appointment but upon notification Matt quickly got his men here. Afterwards I discovered a problem (an obstructed valve handle rendering the valve unusable without tools) and he sent his guys back (a few days later at my request) to resolve it. He made it right - this is what matters. While his men were on site the first time I discovered a small leak on a third toilet's wax ring. His men happily completed this (not so easy) additional task.

I wasn't present when the job was getting done, but based on the result, you can tell that this task was handled by a very thorough professional. Moreover, during his first visit, Matt noticed that there was a leak on my roof, and concisely explained the severity of the situation to me. While he was still there, I had someone from management come over, and Matt handled the conversation with the manager as if the issue was his own. This really comforted me, because I don't know anything about roof leaks, so I was more than happy to have someone like Matt there at the time. This is the kind of person you can rely on for anything concerning such repairs. I am glad to have found him on Angie's List.

I left Matt a message and his office promptly returned my call to set up an appointment for an estimate. Matt showed up on time and confirmed the appointment beforehand. I have dealt with many contractors and this is a rarity in Miami. We discussed all the work and he promised he would provide me with an estimate the next day. Once I received the estimate we agreed on a start date. Theres was a lot of work to do and I felt Matt and his crew were the perfect guys for the job. He got started on the project and did not stop working until it was complete. There were many different problems that arose throughout the process but Matt seemed to be able to handle them all. Matt and his crew finished on time and delivered what they promised. I am very happy with him and all his work.

It went well overall. Very pleased.
