Overall, it went very well! I was pleased with Matt and his crew. It was a large project with many problems along the way but they were able to handle the whole thing. They did a wonderful job and finished up on time like he promised. Would definitely hire again!

Matt works with his dad so it is a nice environment and their crew were clean and professional. My only concern was punctuality and how it was hard to find Matt at times but I will say that he had just had a child so that could have taken a toll on his work and it is understandable. Pricewise there were a couple of fluctuations that were a little bit of a surprise but I expected it to happen. It was an overall good experience.

Spoke with Matt 3 days earlier and set up an appointment for an estimate to retile our shower and bathroom. He said he would be at our place "around 9" today. Because he said around 9, we let it go until 10 when we tried calling him and had to leave a voicemail. Finally after another 3 hrs, he texts me stating "im sorry but i couldnt make it today. its because i got the green light to start a few big projects and then noticed our estimate for the morning. im sorry but its going to be difficult to do your job at this moment". So after wasting our entire morning on this guy, he doesn't even have the descency to call and explain to us his situation. Like many other reviews I have now read about him, he seems to be very inconsiderate with other peoples' time and a coward for not even talking to the potential clients. If you have a potential project worth $20000 or more and have 4 hours to wait to get a text from a contractor, then look no further, you've found your man. Otherwise I'd suggest you not use his services for anything in the future.

I am sorry to say that while I have given A to this contractor in the past, my most recent experience was not as satisfactory. Several appointments were postponed because he was involved on other projects, even if mine was partially completed at the time. Also the final job was not completed. Several times the final component of the job was scheduled and then the appointment cancelled.

All of my project were done expertly by Matt. I have been very satisfied with the outcome of all three of the projects he did for me.
Description of Work: Matt has done three projects for me over the last 4 years. First was to change a mirrored wall to an accent wall in a large room It came out great and totally transformed the condo. Second was removal and demolition of a built-in hot tub, which included redoing the electric, redoing the tile floor, and resurfacing the walls. That was beautifully done, delivered on time and reasonably priced. Last month Matt replaced a bath tub with a custom built shower in my rental unit. This was also done to perfection. Matt is always professional, dependable and thorough. He always works with reliable and trustworthy helpers which adds to the comfort level when a job is lengthy and you are not always there to "supervise". I would never use another contractor after experiencing Matt's expertise

When Matt arrived and looked at the job, I told him I needed the bathroom completely redone, new tile throughout the condo, new ceiling, repaint all walls and maybe do the kitchen area. I told him that I will provide all the material since I am a real estate developer in Pennsylvania and can get a deal on all my supplies. He said that was not a problem. He never measures the area, spent about 15 min looking and left, letting me know that he will email the bid. A few days later I received a bid that had one sentence, the job will cost $19500 labor only to do a 400sq ft condo a bathroom, ceiling and painting several walls. His bid was higher the the Home Depot contractors who came also and give me a bid. They are always the highest since the contractor has to make money and Home Depot. He was double their bid. As a developer I know the costs of labor and this was just theft. I hope the Miami residence don't get taken by a gannif. Dont let him talk you into something that cost a dollar and you will pay ten
Description of Work: I contacted Matt regarding remodeling my condo in Sunny Isles. I made sure to schedule an appointment about a month in advance since I live up north and was flying in to Miami to get bids for the renovation. When I arrived and the time came for Matt to show up, he missed the appointment. I called him to see what happened I got his voice mail. He did call back apologized and we rescheduled for next day.

I have a lot of projects that I want to begin on my house, from little things (some gutter work/moving doors) to remodeling both our bathroom and kitchen. I wouldnt pay someone $50k to do major renovation work when I have no idea HOW they work, hence I like to try a variety of people on smaller commitments until I find the best quality craftsmen to use on large stuff. So i sent this guy a simple message inquiring about maybe getting some doors moved as I have a lot of things that need to be done. You know how this guy responds? "Move a door? Sorry, too small of a job." Really? That's how you respond? "Move a door?" Like I'm crazy for asking such a meager task of you?! I understand if isn't worth your time, but how about a little better service, dude? Maybe something like: "Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry, but at this time I am very swamped and unable to assist you with that particular job. What other projects did you have in mind? Let me know. Good luck with the doors! :) Matt"

Like others has all ready stated, company said it will work in your area but that's a lie! PLEASE CHANGE YOUR LISTING !! I called for an estimate and left a a message. Matt returned my call a day later and inquired about nature & scope of work needed, which was not small in cost. It was not until Matt received the property address when he said he didn't work in that area. I politely ask why? He said it was too far. I told him I was only five(5) miles from his location. Then he changed his response to say he only works in Miami Beach(SEE AREA LISTING). Politely asked again for not working in this area. Again, I got another response -- He's too busy! How can I trust someone like this if I get a straight answer?

I was a bit hesitant to write a review but not doing so would be unjust to all the members whom like myself, rely on these reviews to make informed decisions when hiring a contractor so here it goes. I contacted Matt and scheduled to meet for an estimate but Matt was a NO SHOW. I tried calling him several times but no answer. Glad that he showed his true colors before I embarked on a project. However, he did text me 4 hrs later only to let me know that he couldn't take on the project- he should've done that before the appointment and not 4 hours and a few phone calls later.. If making an appointment with this irresponsible and inconsiderate individual, I strongly recommend that you really consider this review as Matt has no sense of consideration for his future/possible customers' time and efforts.

In many ways this was the project from h***. In Seattle I got a call that there was a plumbing leak in my condo in Miami. I didn't know what the situation was or who to call. After several false starts with others an acquaintance gave me Matt's name. Matt was able to size up the problem and map out a solution. The bureaucratic red tape in Miami Beach is incredible -- I had to go through the whole process as if I were building a new apartment building instead of just repairing a shower. But Matt guided me through the maze. My little project required demolition, plumbing, tile work - and numerous city inspections. But Matt patiently and persistently followed up on everything. He also repaired the damage to the unit below us. My wife despaired of having a decent looking bathroom after this but she is delighted with the end result. The tile repair looks as if we had planned it that way all along. Matt was courteous, dependable, and flexible. I would definitely use his services again.

I purchased an Ikea closet just to find out that they are no longer doing installs in my area, so off to Angie's List to find someone to put it together for me. When I originally spoke with Matt he told me he was in the middle of a pretty substantial job. I asked him to please keep my number if something opened up. I was desperate because my new place had widely inadequate closet space! He doesn't really do small jobs like this (well, what we thought was a small job, but more on that in a bit), so I was very happy to hear back from him that he would squeeze me in!! He informed me that it would be $300 (which at the time was high for me since IKEA charges $125, but that's obviously because you are already spending over a grand on their goods, but that was neither here nor there since they were not available on Brickell) So I agree, and we book for that Fri. After getting into the job, it became clear that it was much more time intensive than he thought it would be! But Matt kept a great attitude the whole time! I felt terrible it was taking so long! But he stayed professional the whole time and did not leave until the job was finished! (I even offered to let him finish on his next open day, sometime in the future, and he informed me that's not how he conducts business! In this day and age, that's a rarity, unfortunately) Then when he thought he had FINALLY finished, we figured out that I was missing the hinges to hang one of the mirrored doors. Certainly not his fault, but when we figured it out, he offered (after how long it took, I was not even going to ask him to come back, he had already gone over and above by staying until the job was finished, as much as he had control over at least) to come back and hang the door when the hinges came in. Talk about customer service!! I can't say enough good things about my experience! Being female means that these types of situations can go very differently with the wrong contractors... Example, he never pulled the "this is more time than I thought, I need more money"' which might be followed by a threat to leave unfinished if the money wasn't paid, we have all heard the horror stories. He stayed professional with his quote and I could not have been happier with the finished product!! A+ All the way!!

Matt came twice to my condo to hang a mirror in my bathroom, install a new medicine cabinet I had bought and to put some caulk around the tub in September. He was on time and he works very quickly. He also makes sure that he cleans up afterward and that you are happy with the work. He recommended that I put some bullnose tile around the perimeter of my sink to protect the area from water damage so I set up a date for him to come back and install the bullnose tile and also to install a towel bar. Again, he worked very quickly, cleaned up after himself and was very thorough with his work. He informed me he would have to come back to finish the grout since the tile needed to dry. He kept in contact with me to schedule a day to come back and grout, which he just finished recently. Matt is very professional, keeps good communication, punctual, affordable, and pays attention to the detail in his work. I was very happy with using his services and will use him again in the future, if needed.

I was referred to Matt by a friend who is an Angieslist member. Matt answered the phone and scheduled the estimate with me for that week. He showed up on time, as promised, which is very rare in Miami. I hired Matt to remodel my two bathrooms, replace windows and install a new central A/C. It was a large and difficult project but I felt Matt would be the contractor that could handle the job. He did everything he promised and he did not disappoint me. So we started off fine, after the first meeting with Matt, he followed up in a timely fashion with a quote. When we communicated the selection, he came by in a timely manner to drop of the contract and review, as well as collect the deposit. We had several meetings over the next few weeks with the engineer coming out to take measurements and get the drawings drafted. The engineer went to pull the permit and there were legalization issues on the house from the previous owner. So, freeze bathroom project, bring in someone who specializes in resolution (not under this review) and fast forward 5 months. As we were closing out the legalization project, I began reaching out to Matt. Keeping him informed on progress, forecasting timelines, trying to get into the line-up of his projects. Responses were sporadic. It would take multiple emails prior to getting a response often a week or two later. When I set a target date to start, that is when he told me he wanted another $2000 to start. When I agreed and gave a definitive start date, that is when he told me the job price would be over 20% more than original forecast. When I inquired as to why, he said materials. Now during the original bid, he highlighted materials were only $400-$500 . So sheet rock, dry wall screws, etc had increased 5 fold. I've been to home depot so I never saw the spike. I purchased the tile, grout, sealer, sink, vanity, faucets, mirror, etc. It was strictly a labor and sundries job. I was shocked with asking for another $2000 up front, but realize most contractors struggle with cash flow. But then trying to price gouge, after a signed and agreed upon project, and then the BS excuses to justify it. The relationship, and his true colors (professionalism, responsiveness, and punctuality) went south quickly, and his whole attitude and customer service was horrible. I never had the opportunity to see or experience the actual quality of workmanship, he may be a decent handyman, but he is no professional businessman that I would want to do business with in any capacity. Nor would I recommend him. Update: In response to provider, yes the CONTRACT (signed/executed by both parties) legally binding and agreed to, was probably 12 months old by the time I wrote the review. However, the cost to do the job (materials as stated by you) did not increase 5x during that time to justify your added costs, And for the record, there were no KNOWN violations, it was my understanding that the house need to be legalized from the contractor performing the work only after your engineer applied for the permits. I had previous work on the house, a drive way and new roof all under permit with no issues. All permits were found to cover all aspects of the house, especially as it related to the bathroom you were to remodel. I appreciate you taking the time to respond, however, you should ensure you state only facts. I have documentation to support all of mine. You are implying that I was deceitful and dishonest; without merit or fact, which is libel. You did refund $400 from the orginal $2500 deposit, so I spent $1700 for drawing which was acceptable. What you did to earn $400 is still a question though, becasue you did nothing outside of the sales/contract cycle as it directly related to performance under the contract. I hope your customer service and along with your excuses improve, because you did nothing to refute the facts stated above, only to try and shift the blame awy from you. Regards
Description of Work: For $2100 I got a set of plans for the bathroom. That was only after arguing over the phone and through emails for weeks, and after I threatened to sue for breach of contract. Matt actually was selected as the contractor to perform a bathroom remodeling project. We screened Matt and 3 others. He was not the cheapest of the 4 but we liked him and he had good reviews on Angie's List. He provided a quote, we signed on contract, I provided a 25% deposit and plans were drafted. Needless to say, when it came time for the work, Matt took a $8600 contract, said it was going to be $10,600 and he wanted another $2000 down, basically 50% of the original quote.

I provided you with that quote a year ago. Then after you signed the contract you forgot to mention you had previous code violations for other work that was performed on your property. This meant we could not start on the bathroom until all your violations were resolved, which took about a year for you to do. Also, I refunded you $400. I believe the standard rate for completed architectural blueprints for submittal to City of Miami are at least $1500. You are the one that wasted my time because you never disclosed you had previous code violations on your property. Please be more honest next time and resolve your code violations before you call me. Think you,

We scheduled that for the next day. Matt never showed up, never called. On Monday I get a call from Matt, he told me a story about why he didn't show up. I gave him a pass on that, he asked if he could come on Tuesday instead. I told him that there wasn't going to be anyone there on Tuesday and there was no point in coming out. I asked if it were possible to reschedule for today (08/21/2013) or another time this week, he told me today was fine. He called me about 15 minutes ago to tell me he wasn't going to be able to come out at all because he got a huge project the day before. I asked if he would just be able to come by and take a look at the area, since it was going to be a very simple job, and when he did have some time if he could put it back on his radar. He told me that he wasn't going to be able to come at all or do the job. It was very unprofessional. He stood me up twice and broke a promise to come out today, or at all.
Description of Work: I contacted Matt, the owner, last Thursday. I gave him information about what I was looking for and whether or not that fell within his area of expertise - which he said it did. He told me he would come out, I made it clear that I just wanted him to come out to take a look and give me an estimate.

this guy will fulfill your worst nightmares.. I paid him $1000 dollars for him to send a tiler. The tiler showed up and said that the shower ws not ready for tiling. Then he sent another tiler to whom he paid $500 and then told him to collect the balance from the client. The tiler he sent did such a bad job that the shower floor does not slant towards the drain and i have to have it redone.

Response from Sunshine Builders & Contracting
Come on now...tell the truth. This customer refused to pay me and then tried to make me do work that was not part of the original scope. Since I'm such a nice guy you try to take advantage of me.

There were a few minor snafus in getting the initial start date finalized, but once it was, the experience was good. Matt is professional, polite, does a terrific job, and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
Description of Work: Matt sealed up and repainted two drywall holes of decent size; one required a lot more work than expected. Since the one in the laundry room required the room being emptied, I had him repaint the entire room. He also switched a door on a closet to open a different way, replaced another door's hardware, and sanded down a door that had been sticking.
