Guinn & Sons Hurricane Protection

Price was high but Matt sent his "Rolladen" person, Wilmer. When we went attempted to shutter the house for the hurricane in Sept., the shutters he repaired broke again. We contacted him on Sept. 18 and explained that this was the first time we needed to use them and they were not working. He said he would pass the information to Wilmer and get back to us. Sent a follow up message on September 26th. No response.

First I want to mention that when I was getting estimates Matt Guinn was the only one that was honest with me. I two companies trying to sell me hurricane impact sliding glass doors saying that the county won't approve the accordion shutters. When I asked Matt if the accordions were acceptable he was honest and said absolutely. I had a very strict budget and he respected that. The staff was always available to answer my questions and the shutters were up just in time for Irma's visit and they stayed in place even after the storm and I was hit rather hard. I highly recommend this company. Thank you Matt and the staff for looking out for me,

There were some issues with communication and getting the job done, but overall I was pleased, since the shutters held up through the hurricane.

Everything was going great until I was concerned about the window design. There was a miscommunication about the window design. If we were able to discuss it professionally everything would be fine. But after that everything went down hill, he became agressive and hostile. He made threats to me about the material and asked for all of the money upfront. I had a lawyer draft a demand letter and i had to have my co worker, who is a stong sounding man come into an agreement. The company is family run, and the owner is a misogynist.

They were really professional at first, but then after we signed the contract, they were much less organized, showing up at random or hours after they were "on their way" to collect payment. I think they sent a subcontractor to do the work because the crew that showed up had a different company name on their truck. We had GC contractor come out for something separate and found that some of the windows were barely secured to the inside of the walls. A big team came in and completed the job in one day, which is great, but I feel like they just did the bare minimum to say they completed the job instead of doing what's right for us or the house. They replaced some framing around the bathroom window, but left the raw wood exposed that I will now have to sand and paint myself in order for it to not look like an incomplete construction site. They were very friendly though, and we were always able to communicate with the owner.

Poor, came twice to service them because the shutters kept getting stuck. Try to sell additional services. Add replace shutters, one of them is still stuck. Received a call from owner regarding the poor quality of the service, I am still waiting for them to come

Great . Matt was responsive...answered calls..returned calls and texts promptly...showed up when he said. His workers were very knowledgeable, very professional, did a great job and cleaned up when they were done so you would not even know work had been done. Everyone was a pleasure with whom to work!

They were very responsive. Put the shutters up in a great time-frame. Recommended to friends who have also liked them. Especially the price was wonderful.

Awesome. Although this was a small job, it did not matter. Brad was extremely attentive and responsive. He coordinated my job with another job he had very near my house and the installer showed up when he said he would and took care of the installation in a few minutes. I appreciate all of the effort and time it took to coordinate the install. Job well done! I would highly recommend.

REALLY BAD. It took about 4 calls to get someone on the phone. She advised someone would call us to schedule. The person who called was named Matt, and was incredible arrogant and made us feel as though our job wasn't worth his attention. And, apparently it wasn't because even though Matt said he would be in our area and call us to drop by, and even though my boyfriend waited around the house all day for that to happen...Matt never called and never showed up. We'll take our business somewhere else and so should you!

If I could sum up my experience with Guinn & Sons in one word it would be EFFORTLESS ! From beginning to end the process was a breeze. Matt the owner came out to measure and gave us a great quote and a great product to match. My windows took about 8 weeks and when the time came to instal it was a walk in the park. His crew was everything you could want, on time, quick, clean and paid attention to every detail. Since my windows and doors were installed, I can't stop the neighbors from coming over to check it out. Absolutely pleased with their work and can recommend them 1000%

Matt and his team were are exceptional in any ways. All questions and concerns were resolved immediately. Job was performed as scheduled and with supper high quality. Matt is very responsible and concern about his customer needs and keeps his company already high reputation. Absolutely will recommend Matt and his company for any job for windows, doors and shutters installation.

Guinn and Sons was the fourth company to bid on the job- from the initial contact to the completion of the job, they stood out from the other 3 companies I had dealt with . Matt provided an immediate estimate then made sure that the job was completed on schedule as per our agreement. He did everything he could to make sure that I got what I needed for my insurance mitigation credit. This is a company with integrity where customer service is a priority. I will recommend Matt and Wayne to anyone who may need hurricane protection.

Other than running a little late on the initial estimate, everything went flawlessly. He was the 4th and final person to provide an estimate for the house - but he was the only one who noticed the side door to the garage was already impact rated, and did not need to be replaced, or shored up with additional protection. In addition to being quite knowledgable, his estimated were substantially more affordable than the competition. Once the contract was signed, the shutters and new garage door went up within a week or two. Fortunately, we have not yet had a hurricane, so I can't comment on the protection capabilities - but they do meet all of the codes and regulations. All in all, I give them an A+, and would highly recommend.

They removed the old Florida aluminum fold-down hurricane awnings from the 1950s--that are no longer up to code--and replaced them with metal panels for the whole house and back cottage. They did this in time to meet the Florida Windstorm deadline so I could qualify for the annual hurricane insurance deduction for window protection. I was happy to have them finish the job on time for this to occur! Many thanks, Matt and Wayne!

We were referred to Guinn & Sons after getting estimates from other companies close to $50K. The whole job completed for the original estimate. The work was impeccable. Doors and windows are beautiful. We are delighted with the finished product. For what is basically a construction job, it went very smoothly. Communication was great, even responded on the weekends. Installers go out of their way to protect your belongings and are very good at cleaning up after themselves each day. We highly recommend Guinn & Sons.

I was very impressed with Matt's communication and responsiveness. I called to see if he could quote shutters for my house and he came out the next morning and did a very thorough job measuring my windows. He then discussed my options in great detail to understand fully what I was looking for. He followed up with a drawing of his plans and was willing to provide references and even let me tour his factory where the shutters were made! I ultimately didn't use his services but I am confident if I did, I would have had a good outcome.

I needed hurricane shutters for laundry room and storage shed doors and a window. Matt Guinn responded to my email quickly, and came out right away to give an estimate. Someone from the company came the next day to take measurements, and in just a few more days the shutters were installed. The company did an excellent job. Everything looks great. I would highly recommend this company.

Arrived on time, started immediatly, estimated time to complete was accurate, finished and cleaned up within time limit. Had extra work to fill in with cement large screw holes from previous shutters. Came back next morning to finish patching those holes. I had overpaid and the owner called to tell me he woul dbe sending me back a check for the balance! Very honest business!

Although there was one slight hiccup in the job completion (see below), I would highly recommend Guinn & Sons for hurricane protection in the South Florida area. This is a family-run business, and from the very beginning, I experienced the great customer service that others have written about. Matt Guinn, the owner, responded to my initial inquiry almost immediately, and he came out 2 days later (on a Saturday) to provide an initial estimate. He offered me a few options, and was willing to "mix and match" protection types for different areas of the home. He was able to work around my schedule, and the job was completed very quickly. His contractor was extremely professional and thorough, and he was helpful in explaining to me all of the information I needed to properly secure the shutters and panels. Matt was always available via phone/text, and was very responsive with inquiries. The only hiccup came with inspection. Due to a paperwork error (NOT an installation problem), the inspection was not approved immediately. However, Matt worked diligently to communicate with the inspector to resolve the problem, and he was in communication with me every step of the way. These things happen, and Matt and his team were intent on solving the issue as quickly as possible. According to the contract, the final balance on the job was not due until after inspection passed, as well, so that was a good guarantee -- however, Matt and his team clearly take pride in their work and the quality they provide, so I'm sure it would have all been resolved even without that final balance due! I don't imagine I will need shutters again anytime soon (!), but I'd highly recommend Guinn & Sons to anyone looking for hurricane protection.

Matt was very good about contacting me to set up the appointment. Wayne arrived on time and was professional and friendly. He cleaned all the locks and tracks and sprayed etc., doing a thorough job. Wayne showed me the proper method of closing the shutters and gave me tips on how to keep the locks clean. Wayne even went the extra step to replace a missing bolt where the door shutter would be installed if a hurricane was approaching. I will be using this company on an annual basis to maintain the accordions in good working condition.
