I bought a house I shouldn't have, if the inspector would have done the job he was hired to do. I'm presently living a nightmare!! Pedro
Description of Work: This company's inaccurate and misleading home inspection and wind mitigation report, has cost me thousands of dollars in home repairs and termite damage, we did not budgeted for. I have only owened this house since Oct 2011. I do not recomend them!! Pedro

Response from Five Star Building Inspections, Inc.
AS PER THE AFFIDAVIT FILED WITH FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE & CONSUMER SERVICES, DIVISION OF AGRICULTURAL ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES AND THE DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS REGULATION The member contacted me for the visual home inspection in August of 2011. I performed a visual inspection on 8-25-2011 which included the visual inspection of the roof, WDO(Pest-Termite), Structural, Electrical, A/C System, Appliances, Plumbing, Interior, Exterior for a fee of $300.00. The member contacted me approximately 2 ½ months later and told me that he was running cable TV wiring in the attic, while moving around insulation to run the wires from the attic into the bedrooms he found termites. I responded to the member’s email that the WDO inspection is a report made on the basis of what was visible and readily accessible at the time of inspection and does not constitute a guarantee of the absence of wood-destroying organism (WDOs) or damage or other evidence unless this report specifically states herein the extent of such guarantee. Just as it is printed in caps and bold letters on the WDO inspection report that he was provided with on 8-25-11. The member did not accept this and decided to contact the DACS (Dept of Agriculture & Consumer Services), Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the Better Business Bureau. Mr. Lee, the state inspector for DACS, contacted me and I offered to refund the member the $300 which is the full amount of the inspection. At that point the member requested my insurance information so he could determine whether to accept the $300. At that point according to my insurance agent the member proceeded to place a claim with my insurance company for $50,000.00. Now he is claiming plumbing problems. The member decided to buy a 34 year old house and now he wants my insurance to update his property. I have been performing WDO’s for 21 years with approximately 10,000 inspections and never have had one (1) complaint. Please take this into account. I CAN'T comment any further because my attorneys are handling the case. Thank you, Pedro P. Gonzalez Five Star Building Inspections, Inc. Tel: 305-278-1177

I requested a roof inspection for a new(2005)roof that was not installed to code. I was told that they do not have licensed roofing contractors for the inspections. I asked what exactly I could get from them if not a certified inspection, as advertised. They responded that they are certified to do home inspections. Five more attempts could not get me more specific info. About what they actually do when they inspect. Then I was handed off to a supervisor. He was even more evasive. When I explained I needed an inspection from a certified roofer to corroborate photographic and physical evidence that my roof was not installed to code, he stated that he was not going to write an opinion that would potentially land in a court matter. I pointed out his ad stated explicitly that they were certified and licensed to do all home inspections and aren't court matters what these inspections are trying to avoid? He stated he didn't want to get involved in a matter that might land in court.
Description of Work: No work done but speaking on the phone was an eye opener.

Response from Five Star Building Inspections, Inc.
1. Back in 2006 Home Inspection companies were NOT regulated or required to have a licensed roofing contractor on staff due to the fact that we were not permitted to do repairs on the homes that we inspected because of a CONFLICT OF INTEREST. 2. Certified "AS ADVERTISED" we were certified in all 4 categories of PEST CONTROL.. Please read the entire advertisement before making assumptions we did not state Certified Roof Report any where on our advertisements. 3. What he was really looking for was an expert witness in a court case for the low price of $65. WE REFUSED. Expert witnesses cost more than $65. NOW IN 2011 WE ARE NOW REGULATED, CONTINUALLY EDUCATED, CERTIFIED AND INSURED !!! This 6 year old review is no longer relevant.
