Description of Work: Our house was inspected for home insurance and they found some deficiencies in the electric panel. The person from the electric company came out and took pictures and said the inspector was actually incorrect. He called the inspector, sent the pictures and the inspector did in fact end up being wrong, so no corrections were needed.

Description of Work: I contacted them based on the ratings in Angie's list. They had a person answer the phone Sunday evening, which was initially impressive. However, when it was time for them to contact me on Monday, they didn't. It's been over a week, and I have not heard from them. I will not attempt to reach out to this contractor in the future.

+ -1 moreJob 1: Correcting the wiring of a four-way switch is difficult, thoughtful work. The electrician did the work quickly and with good humor. The fluorescent light was re-wired quickly, and the problem was solved. The work was done promptly. I called in the morning. The electrician came shortly after lunch. Job 2: The electrician was careful and thoughtful regarding the problems that can be caused by lightning. I received what I wanted and the price was fair.
Description of Work: Job 1: Corrected the wiring of a four-way switch and the wiring of a fluorescent light fixture. ($145.) Job 2: Following a lightning strike at my house, Benson Electric inspected the electrical system and repaired the switches and outlets that were damaged. ($327.95.)

Description of Work: Installed 3 kitchen under-cabinet lights. Job was made more difficult because of the placement of existing wires. Replaced 11 switches/receptacle boxes that had been disconnected because of kitchen remodelling.

They arrived promptly and did the work quickly and provided meaningful information about problems we are having with an overloaded circuit box. They took detailed information about providing an estimate for upgrading to a larger breaker box to avoid overloaded circuits and simplify installation of a transfer switch for our generator.
Description of Work: Repaired wiring problems in garage. Several lights were not working because of old or overloaded wiring.

+ -1 moreMy call to Benson resulted in an appointment that was set for 1 week hence, at 8 AM on a Monday. The doorbell rang at exactly 8 AM on the appointed day! A very courteous electrician listened to my description of the problem and then got right to work. He solved a formidably complex problem that was ultimately caused by inferior work that was done years before. The fix involved crawling through the attic amid Fiberglas insulation and extreme heat to find the site that caused the problem and then rewiring the ruined circuit. I feel that the work was very professional and that the cost was worth every penny due to the competence of the electrician.
Description of Work: Based on the positive ratings on Angie's List, Benson was called to solve a particularly vexing problem. The circuit that fed the living room area of the house was behaving strangely: outlets were providing 115 volts until the switch for the overhead lights/fans was turned on - the voltage jumped to 240 volts then. Sometimes the overhead lights would go on and sometimes not. When they did go on they either blazed at high voltage or puttered with barely any light emitted. Benson's very competent electrician admitted that it was a very complicated problem, and then proceeded to diagnose and fix it. It turns out that, probably because a circuit breaker was providing too much amperage for the wires to handle, a pair of wires that were located in the conduit that ran across the crawl space in the living room had heated up, shorted and fused together. The distribution box that terminated those wires was hidden at the edge of the crawl space and covered with insulation. Kudos for great work!

+ -1 moreI made an appointment with Benson Electric, and the serviceman (Carlos) called me 20 minutes before coming out, right on schedule! He spent about an hour checking the lines and advised me as to a short-term fix that would solve the problem and save me money. Carlos was extremely polite, paid attention to detail, explained everything to me, and I would certainly go with Benson Electric again.
Description of Work: My pool light was leaking current into the water, and I got estimates for hourly rates from three companies. I did not know if the light could be fixed without replacing it entirely. I chose Benson Electric because of their good rating on Angie's List and their long standing in the community.

Description of Work: Removed old, non-working fixture and installed new outdoor motion sensor security light. Removed old non-working indoor light timer switch and installed new timer switch. Programmed switch. Evaluated outdoor patio lighting issue and created a time-line plan for the removal of old wiring and installation of new, based around on-going construction. Evaluated two light fixtures and determined the fixtures were not working rather than having an electrical problem.

+ -1 moreIt all started with the woman who answered the phone. She set the appointment for one week later and gathered information about the work I wanted done. She called back the following day to check if there was anything I had forgotten (yes). She called back again the next day to tell me she had an opening the next morning. Jonathon called me about an hour before he was supposed to come to verify the materials he would have to buy before coming. He arrived when expected, went over the work to be done and started. He repaired loose assemblies in wall switches that 2 other electricians told me to live with because the house was old (1957) and there was nothing that could be done.
Description of Work: They modified and installed a new security light and repaired ceiling fan. Then they installed a new wiremold box and switches for fans and lights, new switches and outlets in bathrooms (GFIs), and replaced several old outlets with new grounded outlets. Then they replaced and repaired several light switches and light/fan. controls.
