Mr. Vargas, did an outstanding job, As many of us know, finding honest contractors in the greater Miami area is tough - we lucked into a great organization with America's Best! After several meetings regarding estimates, pricing and cost of materials, we scheduled the remodeling approximately 1 month later. "Emo" was courteous and professional through the entire length of the project. His staff was hardworking and respectful of our property. We were cleaning up an old structure and he worked with us on developing a cost effective project as well as protecting both him and us by carefully outlining the entire project. We will certainly use America's Best in the Future.

The contractor came right away to give us an estimate and started the job that same week. They did a great job. There were some items that had to be detailed a little better but they were helpful and responsive to our requests.

1. I was promised several things when we first spoke about the work that Mr. Vargas later said he had not promised. 2. He became abusive and screamed at me twice, later apologizing and saying it was because of his change in medication. 3. The original quote he gave he later said did not include the price of some things he said had included such as the replacement of the doors. 4. I had to write every thing he said down, make a copy, and later remind him of what he had said because he continued to say something different about what had been agreed to. 5. The work was completed finally by my acquiesing to changes--just to be done. 6. The last straw came day after I paid, when my tenants moved in and the they said the kitchen faucet was leaking. I had not checked that, but called Vargas immediately. He said he would have someone come out to fix it. Four days later, having not heard a word from him, I called again. He said he was out of town and screamed that he WOULD NOT FIX IT...for me to find a plumber. So, not even a guarantee of the work. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I was not going to write a negative review, I was just not going to say anything because I am busy and didn't want to do it, however, the refusal to fix the work was simply over the pale. He should not be allowed to get away with this and have other consumers suffer my fate. I got his contact information from Angie's List and I cannot understand how he got good reviews from others, except maybe, I am guessing, they are his friends or relatives. Also, since I am a single woman maybe he thought he could take advantage of me.

Response from America's Best Home Improvement - Miami
I had done previous work for this customer for which she was satisfied upon to different occasions. She ahd also asked me to go to South Beach which I do not service. For this particular job, she had given me a list of 12 titems and I gave her a price of $3500.00 to do them. She kept adding to the list for a total of 22 items, which incurred expenses of $1,000.00 more for me for materials and labor which made a new total of $4,500.00 of which she refused to pay the additional $1,000.00. The leak of the faucet, which I did change, was not actually a leaky faucet, but a leak in the P trap, which I had nothing to do with. I had been warned by another worker, on one of the other jobs that I had designed a outside shed for her daughter's washer and dryer, that she was a tricky person to deal witt. At the time I did not believe it, but now do. She treated me unfairly, disrepected me and did not pay me for all the work and materials that I used on her job. I do not wish to do any further work for her.

They took out 35 linear ft of roof lining and replaced it. The removed the waterlogged sheetrock, stucco, cement and fascia board. They removed all of the rotten pieces the outside they redid stucco on southeast side and replaced rotten fascia board including damaged. They also painted the entire back side of the house. They also installed the shutters on 2 doors and a small window. It was finished within 5 days. They also did additional things at no additional cost. When they dripped paint on the patio floor, they cleaned the full floor. Overall, they did a good job. The price was fair.

I had contacted Emo to do a small job for us about 2 weeks ago. He was very nice and excited to help. He came over that same night with someone else. Told us that the more work we had for him the better our price would be. We told him that we had lots of work to do around the house but we were taking it slow since it's our first home. He insisted for us to tell him anyways because he would help us out whenever we were ready. My husband and I went around the house telling him what we needed. He told us that it would be no problem since he has 19 men working for him. He also asked for us to measure the entire house for him so that he can get an idea on materials needed. A few days later he comes back again but with a different person and shows him the house. We're still hoping that he can give us a price on what we originally called him for but he doesn't! Claiming that he needs to look at the bathroom first (nothing to do with the original work requested!) He comes back a THIRD time!! with a third person but we're not home. At this point I get upset and tell him that all I wanted was a quote for the original work I had requested! He gets deffensive and throws out a number. Today, 2 weeks later I call him to see if he can send someone over this week and he tells me he's booked for the next 2 weeks working on another project. At this point, I know that my project must've been too small for him from the get go and he was just trying to get more from us. He would've too, had he not lacked profesionalism. I understand his intention of making a sale but I do not respect the way he went about it.

With all due respect to this member, the first time I entered the home it was for the bathroom leveling. At that time she mentioned that she had a great deal more work and I was alone, so she proceded to show me all of the other work, such as crown molding, baseboard and laminated floors. For these jobs I use the men in my employment who would only do that particular work. I was told by her, that in order to giveer her a better price, if she would give me all the work at the same time, which is why I came back with different men to measure out the work. One day she called on me to finalize the quote and we agrre upon an appointment time. Then I waited 2 1/2 hours for her and was told by her, when I called her that insteading of meeting me at the agreed time, they were going out to dinner and I should wait another hour or so and it was already about 8 P. M. To my best thinking they were pricing out the work and I had already given them a quote. .

It's a company that is very much in demand. It took them a few weeks between the time of estimate and start of the project. However, they kept us posted, over those few weeks, on wait times and updated us on when they would be able to start. Once they were here, they made up for the delayed start. They worked quickly and they spent several hours each day on the job. They show up early (around 8am), and worked late (7-8pm). They did a great job. They actually care about their quality of work. My wife and I are very happy with the job that they did. We'll be using them again in the future.
Description of Work: We were turning our garage into a playroom for our kids. On the inside of the room: The garage needed dry wall and finishing, a ceiling fan was built and mounted, an electric vent, exterior door and baseboards were installed. On the outside of the room: They patched large holes in the exterior wall, matching the rough texture of the house. They re-finished the underlying panel of the roof on each side of the house. They also painted, matching the color of the house.

We set an appointment time for an estimate with America's Best. Emo arrived at the appointed time with his right-hand man, Fernando. We went room-to-room downstairs, kitchen, bath, dining room, living room, examining the damage. Emo took pictures and made suggestions. He returned in a few days with a written estimate, well within the budget we set. Emo told us it would take approximately 14 days and we agreed upon a start date. Due to my wife's asthma, we packed up and went to stay at our son's house. Since we still had a cat to feed, we were able to view the work on a daily basis which was great. Fernando didn't object to the interruptions and generously offered to feed the cat when the noise kept him away. The work, including the extra painting of the stairwell, was finished well before 14 days. Fernando, as well, made suggestions for the tile work and it looks fabulous. They did an incredible job cleaning up the debris so moving back into the house wasn't the nightmare we had envisioned. America's Best took our flood nightmare and changed our 45 year-old house into a wonderful up-to-date place we love to come home to! Thank you, Emo and Fernando!!!
Description of Work: A broken pipe was discovered under our kitchen floor while we were on a cruise. The plumber called in located and fixed the pipe. The insurance company removed carpet, baseboards and ventilated in an effort to dry the water. We found America's Best Home Improvement on Angie's list. We needed someone to remove wallpaper, replace walls, tile, and completely replace the downstairs bathroom that had taken the brunt of the flood. In addition to the renovation and painting of the repaired walls, we decided at our age not to climb a ladder to paint the two-story stairwell but to add that to the renovation project.

I initially contacted America's Best Home Improvement for the work I needed completed in July. Unfortunately, while I felt it was a fair quote, it was still out of my budget so I simply put off all the work until later. This month, Oct., I contacted Eufemio (Emo) again to come out and provide an updated quote as I wanted to remove some of the original work for some higher priority work. The truth is my home was built in '79 and could use A LOT of updating but I simply can't do it all at once due to financial restrictions. When he came out for the 1st estimate Emo could not stop going on and on about how he only does the BEST of the best (of the best) work and was eager to point out several other things in my house that he could fix with no problem. Essentially, he came off as wanting to add more and more to the bill and was over selling his services, in my opinion. But he had good reviews here so I opted to call him back. This go around, with a little bit more of a budget I contacted him to get an updated estimate. As you can see above I substanially reduced the work demanded especially considering I'd already completed 99% of the prep work for the stairs and they simply needed to be painted, stained and sealed. Surprisingly the new quote came in $600 more than the last at $1500. When I attempted to remind Emo of his previous quote he said that I was crazy and to "forget about it." The conversation did get a little ugly. I told him that I was taking my business elsewhere. He immediately called me back and went on his spiel about how he pays Angie's List over $9000 per year and he only does the best work so that's what he charges for. He offered to drop it to $1200 and I was in a pinch so I took it. Plus, I'm on the market for a contractor I can trust as I've got A LOT of work to do over the next couple of years. Again, he showed up to the house, went on his usual spiel about "we can do this here, no problem." Now, I don't expect anything free but he also presented some of these things as if they were so easy and nothing to do (such as painting my air vents). Then after the fact I get stuck with the Home Depot/Lowe's receipt to cover those costs too. Not a huge deal as it didn't break the bank but it would be nice (and professional) to be sure that is clear before the work was done instead of getting stuck with a new bill. The sub-contractors came in and they were great; they were friendly, sociable, and considerate. They did a great job. Unfortunately, because Emo hyped his services so much and said several times that my stairs would "look just like a piece of furniture" while pitching me every time we talked that I'm now a little peeved about the black stain on white painted trim tape-bleed even though they wouldn't have bothered me otherwise. Finally, Emo told my wife during his quick visit on the last day of work (he only checked in on the guys for a few minutes each day) that if we didn't come on to Angie's List and write a good review that he'd never do business with us. Really? Now you're soliciting reviews? I've contacted Angie's List and they frown upon that as would any reputable review agency. To top it off, he called me three times this morning to tell me that I needed to write his review - 4 days after the work. In short, Emo is a sales man. He pitches the sun and the moon, doesn't offer a written quote to protect himself or the customer. I should have gotten a quote and receipt stating that he was being hired to do xyz work and I was paying x amount for it, right? RIGHT? Anyway, I will give credit where credit is due and say that the guys he subbed the work to did an excellent job. The price was a little steep but still within fair range but the deal breaker for me is having to deal with Emo. I'm still on the market for a general contractor if you have anyone to recommend.
Description of Work: Original Estimate and Services from approximately July 2012: - Paint Walls for entire 2nd floor - Paint ceilings for entire house - Paint baseboards for entire house $900 + I provide paint (~$400) Current Estimate and Services for actual work performed Oct 2012: - Paint walls for entire 2nd story - Finish the job I started to stain and seal stairs (12 steps + landing) $1500 + I provide all supplies and paint (~$550)

Considering that we were in a stressful situation (tropical storm, Isaac, was headed in our direction), Mr. Vargas and his worker, Elsniel, came a day earlier then we had originally planned so that we could prepare for the worst. They both provided their cellphone numbers and said that we could call them anytime if we needed help.

Emo took the job and showed up with 3 of his crew the next day. They worked 7 of the next 8 days, finishing the job in a timely manner. Emo was there every day working and supervising his crew. At one point, I observed him have a worker re-slope the shower pan so that it would drain better. The bathroom walls were re-tiled and the 2 bedroom floors were tiled. I was very happy with the work and the new look of the bathroom and bedrooms.

Having been happy with Emo in the past for a home remodeling job, I used him again for painting the exterior of my home and was very happy with the results. Emo showed up with his crew and had the home painted and cleaned up in 2 1/2 days. This home is a partial 2-story with old style shutters and is not easy to paint. A lot of time was spent by the crew on pressure cleaning and surface preparation. When the house was finished it looked like a new house. It was a huge improvement in appearance and I was very happy with the results.

Overall, they did a very good job. We're pleased with the service they provided and their timing. I would definitely use them again in the future for any other repairs needed.
Description of Work: Emo's guys removed a section of our shingle roof in order to replace a semi-rotted piece of plywood. Then added a new metal flashing on side of the wall, re-stuccoed it, and painted it to match our exterior wall color. They also lightly pressure washed the entire roof since it was visibly dirty. Once that was done, they fixed our dryer's vent which ran inside the garage's wall, into the attic and out the roof vent. They re-routed the new vent, patched the drywall, and replaced the roof vent as well. They also made sure to seal up the intake area of our A/C unit.

!We contacted this company, based on the excellent reviews on Angie's list, on Sat. 8/4/12. We want to install an interior door, but we need to build up the opening (dry wall). We called and the next day a gentleman came over to give an estimate. He measured the space and said the "president " of the company would call us back within 4 hours with the estimate. Three days later, we have not heard from anyone. So we contacted the company again to ask for the estimate based on the measurements. We were told to call them back once the door arrives. I DON"T THINK SO!!! (they already knew it was a 36" door). If they were too busy to take on more work or were incapable of doing the work they should have told us, not strung us along for a wekk. We need to get this work done ASAP! Now we have a door and no one to hang it! We have to start the search all over again. I don't think this is good business practice. Very disappointed!! This is my very first experience with Angie's List...

In all fairness, I did go to the client's house and informed them that because of my work overload that I could not promise a definite time or date to do the work. If they were willing to wait to a later time, I would be willing to do the work. There were three clients ahead of her and I was sorry for the inconvenience,

I was able to receive a quote from Emo in a timely manner. I ended up adding molding to the ceiling and a fan so the cost was higher then the estimate...also due to the fact that there were 3 layers of wallpaper to remove. The job started on Tuesday and 2 people were here that day, and 3 on Wed, Thurs and Friday. There was a lot of work and it was done well. The crew started early in the morning (9am the first day and between 8-8:30 after that). The first day was carpet and wallpaper removal. That took about 5 hours. The next day, and thereafter, the crew worked from 8am to 6 or 7pm at night to complete the job within 4 days. I was amazed. The crew cleaned up after themselves and the room looked great.I wasn't aware that cash would be the best option, so I ended up paying what I could in cash and the rest by check. Emo has to pay the individuals helping him so cash works better.
Description of Work: This was for a complete bedroom makeover.Wallpaper removed (3 layers)Carpet removed Walls patched from nails Blinds removed Old fan removed Walls painted Old doors removed and new ones installed

Called, and contractor said he would call me back and pass along my number to subcontractor, but I never heard from the subcontractor. Contractor called a couple of days later and asked whether I had hired the sub -- it doesn't seem like the relationship was very close between the contractor and the sub.
Description of Work: We were not able to schedule estimate or work in a timely manner. We will have to go through the process with someone else.

Overall, we were highly pleased with the finished project.! The contractor (EMO) was extremely accommodating. He submitted two estimates, dividing the work into two sections--Window / Doors and Exterior House Painting. His estimates were detailed and reasonably priced. He maintains a skilled and experienced crew. The total project resulted in a beautiful job! Our house looks wonderfully maintained, thanks to the contractor's attention to quality work, details, and the supervision of his crew. He is easy to communicate with, and is responsive to one's concerns. The clean-up and removal of all debris was also included. The total project was started and completed in a timely fashion without major hassles. EMO provides references which may include viewing past jobs with an owner's permission, which is helpful and inspires confidence. I would hire him again for future home improvement projects.
