Mr. Baez was very prompt and professional when giving us our estimate. This influenced us on our decision to choose ABC to pour a larger size patio slab in our backyard. Deposit of 10% was put down along with signing the contract to begin work. This was with the understanding that the slab was not to be poured while we were out of town. Permit was acquired and Mr. Baez contacted myself to establish a time to start work. Again, it was mentioned that the slab was not to be poured while we were not in town. This was agreed on and the next day his crew was out installing the forms. While we were out of town Mr. Baez called and informed me that I owed an additional $200 for a termite bond. This was not in the original estimate nor the contract that I signed. Mr. Baez did offer to cover half the cost being that an error was made on his end. I was also notified that the slab had been poured despite my numerous requests that this not be done. Upon calling Mr. Baez and letting him know that I was not pleased with this outcome and he informed me he didn't realize I wanted to wait for work to be done. Upon arriving home and inspecting my backyard, I found my water had been left on for days (when I called and asked about this Mr. Baez informed me that "his crew says they didn't leave it on"), cigarette butts were left strewn around the yard (we do not smoke), and cement had been splattered on my mailbox. When the time came for me to settle up the bill , Mr. Baez does charge an additional 3% fee to use a debit or credit card. We opted to go to our local bank in Orlando and pay him with a certified check. Mr. Baez did replace our mailbox complete with the house numbers that I purchased specifically for my home. Overall I am pleased with the slab. Mr. Baez did address all problems that we have run into regarding this project but looking back most could have been prevented.

It went like clockwork. Andre came out and gave us the estimate. It seemed fair and we went with it. A few days later his crew arrived and work began. They arrived when they said they would. Andre kept us in the loop each day with a phone call. On the third day Andre worked with the crew to complete the job. When they finished nothing was out of place or unfinished. The new driveway really gave our old house a happy facelift.

Everything was level and there was very little deviation from the dimensions I gave them. They had two guys that did the work and did a good job. After the slab was poured another company came in and laid the concrete blocks.

My association with ABC Concrete actually began in December, 2008 when I chose the company over three others to pour a driveway leading up to my boat pad. The result was an excellent job at a fair price. When I decided to have my main driveway replaced about 11 months later (in November, 2009), I looked at several contractors, including ABC once again. Although ABC was $400 higher than the cheapest estimate in this case, I wanted to give them the job because they had performed so well on the earlier project. So the owner, Andres Baez, came down $200 and I came up that same amount to meet him halfway. I now regret that decision. The guy who showed up to build the form (and who ultimately did most of the work) was not the same guy who had done such a beautiful job on my boat driveway. This was a much younger guy, and obviously much less experienced. With Andres' help, the site was graded and the form was built. The next day, Andres showed up again to help the kid pour the driveway, after which he left the kid to do the finish work alone. The next day, the kid showed up with another young kid to remove the formboards and cut the control joints in my brand new driveway. And that's when the wheels fell off the wagon. When they rang my doorbell to collect their money, I went out to check their work and was aghast to see that they had ruined the job. The control joints looked as though they'd been cut by a drunk. In fact, I believe a drunk might have done a better job. I was appalled! I phoned Andres and asked him to come around to talk to me about the work, but he never did. Instead, he sent the same kid back the next day with some kind of compound to fill in the control joints. Then the kid came back the following day to cut new control joints. At the end of that process the joints were relatively straight, so I gave the kid a check and sent him on his way. I knew I was in trouble a few months later when the compound they had placed in the crooked control joints began to break up and come out of the joints. Now I'm faced with finding another contractor who can put a permanent fix on the problem ABC has created for me. I have no idea what it may cost, or whether it's even possible to fix the problem. At bottom is this: Andres Baez failed to properly supervise the second job I gave him. Then, when confronted with the resulting problem, he couldn't even be bothered to come by and look at it. In my view, that indicates a complete lack of regard for me as his customer. But the real kicker to my way of thinking is that either Andres didn't know that the repair was going to fail in short order (which would indicate that he is not competent), or he knew that it would fail (which would indicate that he just wanted to collect his money and make tracks). Either way, I won't be using ABC Concrete in the future.
